Don't edit your appearance until AFTER you've chosen your sub-class. I edited my Elf but then decided i Wanted to so a Wood Elf and it totally changed me to the default wood elf appearancre. I'd even say, don't edit your appearance until you've done all the left panel options.
Changing race or even body type you have to redo the appearance. Regular and stocky female and male, so if you first edit a slim man, then think you want to beef up and choose the bulkier man, you have to do it again.
If you're new to DnD and struggling with point allocation at the start of the game, a few quick tips: Normally aim for even numbers when raising scores (unless you plan to do a split stat boost at level 4, you only gain a bonus to your modifiers for even multiples above 10). Generally most characters will want to have their main stat be highest, obviously. The next stats to care about are Dex (for armor bonus unless heavy armored, for initiative bonus, and for spell saves to avoid damage), Constitution (for general resilience, hp, and concentration on spells), and wisdom (for perception boost and quite a few spell saves). Intelligence is the most common dump stat if not a wizard. Charisma can be really useful for social gaming, so if you want your character to be the front man, consider this as a secondary skill instead.
I would say moreso than having odd stats, don't min-max. It's a very boring way of playing and you'll fail a lots of important skill checks. The odd ability scores can be evened out at level 4 with the first ASI.
@@LordAnubis85 Yes, but this is also the first chance to grab a feat. I did mention, if you plan to level 2 stats rather than 1 or take a feat, then odd numbers are fine.
@@LCInfantry TBH I commented before I fully saw the modifier bit. However, I think this still condenses the info into a good beginner's tips if they are overwhelmed by choices. But ye, not really stating anything new here, just highlighting the important bits.
I already knew all of this stuff, but I still watched the video from start to finish because something about the way he breaks everything down into the simplest and easiest to understand ways is soothingly satisfying. No stress, no mess, just WolfheartFPS.
My first play through I was a Drow. I knew nothing about the Drow and I played through with a sort of chaotic good alignment. I LOVED it the Drow are probably my favorite looking race and surprising everyone by being nice was always super fun lol.
It is not shown in the race as a trait, but some of them also offer a proficiency. Like with Drow giving you Perception, even if you can't see it while choosing a race. So it is worth checking how skills change when you pick different races.
@@blu.q2272 Perception is one of the skills every character has, but some are more proficient with it. Used passively to spot traps and hidden things. To he proficient means you're character is more skilled in it and gets proficiency bonus, +2 or higher later levels.
Job 1 is changing the name when creating your new character 😀 I’m finally downloading and it should be ready when I finish this video! Seriously though, great guide. Good to know there are so many consequences just from character creation. Happy Baldursday!
REALLY useful info man! I returned from work about 2 hours ago and still downloading! I have played early access and I can't wait for the dl to finish! Welcome to BG3 gentlemen!
Hi Wolf, first, thanks for the last 4 years, I am so hyped about BG3 also because you are so hyped. Awesome, dude! Would really enjoy watching a video about the differences between playing the game with mouse and keyboard or with gamepad.
Thank God I'm back. I took thursday off to download the best game ever, so far, but my internet crapped out on me. It took me until late sunday night to finally download this game. But, at least, I got an hour plus play time before I went to sleep at one thirty in the morning. So i've got a few videos to catch up on. Thanks
Thank you so much for doing this (and your other videos). I'm going to be playing this on PS5 (as im moving this month and don't want to interrupt my playthrough for a few weeks) so having videos like this to watch to help me understand things is going to be very helpful.
This video has indeed helped me immensely! Time to restart my first playthrough and give the character creation portion another go through. Thanks for all the insight and clarification. I seriously hope your channel explodes as you put more and more content out there.
Wolf at some point you should do a video on the Karmac Dice. It is something I didn't even know existed as default in the game. I think the debate to use it or not is interesting.
I would say unless you are using a LOT of summons and making lots of attacks, turn it off. Balancing out rolls like karmic dice does means that if enemies keep failing to hit you due to your high AC, for example, the game will slowly boost them to the point they hit a bit more. This doesn't sound like much but action economy is everything and there are usually more enemies than characters in your party. You might be able to even the odds by having summons or many characters with extra attacks, but I general I think I'd leave it off. Also... the randomness is part of the game. Some of the most epic moments in tabletop dnd come because people rolled a few 20s, or 1s, in quick succession.
This is so useful for new players! I've played Dnd before and I was intimidated by all the options and race and ability features. So I'm glad you put this out. 🌻
@@WolfheartFPS I watched your whole playthrough and had a lot of fun. A lot of streamers interact with the chat during the playthrough and I don't like that cause it's distracting. So I really enjoyed your calm commentary and role playing. It was really fun. Except for my sweet Lae'zel. 😭 Ha but I loved watching your dice rolling. I was cackling once when you got like 4 then a natural 1. 🤣🤣 Then other times you get a natural 20 on random rolls. 🤣🤣 I really enjoyed it. I hope you do another one like it when things calm down. ☺️
The most difficult thing to me since the release yesterday is deciding what to play I made three characters and then deleted two and regretted it made a half orc barb/fighter now I want to make a assassin shadow monk I need to chill but it keeps getting to me lol 😅 sorry for the rant
Hey Wolf, do a short video about each body type in every race. No one shows that in detail, and im only playing when PS5 releases Great video as always.
Good stuff! I didn't really need the guidance on this, but wanted to check it out anyways. Always liked your videos. Keep those BG3 vids coming my dude, thanks for all your good work.
Something I have found out through full game play, is your Feat selection is based on your original class level. So if you stop leveling before you get your first Feat for that class, you will lose one Feat from your total overall (two instead of three for most classes, Fighters and Rogues being the main exceptions). So plan your multi classing accordingly.
my first playthrough is probably gonna be a dark urge warlock and my head cannon is gonna be their alternate personality entered into a pact with a dark power to become stronger and sate their thirst for blood but their real personality doesn't know why they have these powers or how they get these minor wounds while sleeping.
Thanks for the help, just started downloading on my steamdeck, never played a game like this before, looks too good not to try, if I end up loving it I'll be getting it on ps5 too
Very well explained. I just hopr that with this huge wave of people suddenly trying DnD, they wont be overwhelmed. Thankfully i believe that larian did really good job at giving short general tips and recommended setting, but i kinda hope a little more tooltips would come to the game (such as more detailed info on checks when you are reading about feat that afect it)
My GF both managed to miss the Skill Proficiencies Tab and went in with a weird grab bag of skills that aren't necessarily suited to our characters. Guess we're gonna be visiting Withers lol.
I have a great tip. Forget about builds. Martial classes are strong at beginning of the game because casters are lacking spell slots due slow lvl progression. Respec later into your build when you have required lvl's like lvl 4. Til then play knight, barbarian, monk, druid
Just finished spending a very long time making my tiefling ranger. I even had her planned beforehand.. my next playthrough I'll most likely spend 5x longer, haha
I don't even spend long making characters probably because I have never played DND or BG1/2 but I could see people who take RP and Character creation seriously trying out looks etc easily taking hours. Just the hair options alone are crazy.
I'm really not a fan of how they handle proficiency overlap. If I want to play a knowledge domain cleric with the sage background, which fits super well thematically, and I want my expertise from knowledge cleric to be in arcana, I straight up lose the arcana proficiency from my background without replacement. Even worse, if I pick rock gnome, which grants me expertise in history, I also lose out on the history proficiency from sage. I get why they don't want to give out wildcard proficiencies for overlap like in dnd 5e; they don't want you to go off theme, but as it is now, it feels like you are being punished for leaning into a theme too heavily.
Hey wolf, can you elaborate on the respec origin part? How is it going to affect content(besides the world still seeing them as their original class), do we just lose access to classes tags on dialogue? Or is there a tangible downside for respecing, like being blocked from content
@@lukedemler4421 I know exactly what Larian has said about this and included in my original comment. If anyone has more information is someone who has played the game for days already.
I just wish we could adjust face and body proportions like most rpgs. I pups love the freedom to make my character look more unique and handcrafted and less…. NPC
Multi-player : is it possible to create characters on his/her own then join a multiplayer party, or is it necessary to be all online at the same time, create a party then create characters?
I am waiting for my game to download, so I'm watching videos about BG3 before beginning, mostly stuff on character creation and tips because I haven't played a game like this and I have a very basic understanding of D&D (I tried playing with some people I knew online, but I got confused and couldn't remember what was going on. We also had lots of scheduling issues). I'm thinking about playing as a bard, but I'm still not sure on what race I want to start as. In real life, I play some music sometimes and so being a bard appeals to me. There are several other classes that sound fun, but I'll try bard first.
Wolf i need your enlightenment on some aspect of the character creation. I've founded that some characters have some native" bonus skill points", but i cannot find any information about this anywhere i've searched. To be specific here are some examples - cleric with 10 points on wisdom has 1 point at animal handling, perception and survival no matter the race i choose, instead of having 0 like all the other classes. Another exemple is wizard with 10 points at inteligence has 1 point in Nature instead of 0 like all the other classes, no matter the race you choose. And like these two examples are also another few classes that have some "native bonus skill points". I must say that i have checked and those skill points are not affected by any racial / subracial feats or background skills.
