@@dftp And that's because the head of their studio is Sven Vincke, who is also a massive RPG guy and seems to always be fully involved in the development of the games himself.
Larian is the next BioWare, now that BioWare is a husk of its former self. Let’s hope they stay independent. Can’t wait to see what other masterpieces they make in the future!
That's why I don't mind paying top dollar for their stuff and early in the EA cycle. I like their work and their ethos enough that I'm absolutely willing to subsidize it a bit extra to make sure they don't get bought out by a business degree thinktank that will ruin everything. As they say "If you want to ruin a good business idea, let the business professionals get a hold of it"
tbh for me personally baldurs gate 3 (except maybe for the dice roling) is everything what i hoped for would come after dragon age origins for the dragon age series. (i was a hugh fan of origins but this here is just mind-blowing amazing!)
@@WilliamHaist dude, BioWare developed the first and second Baldur’s Gate games. Along with Neverwinter Nights and Knights of The Old Republic. And yea, they made Dragon Age but BioWare got its start from making great CRPGs, hence the comparison.
@@Caucasian60 Plus they said BioWare is more for "first-person RPG games" but which is weird because they have made literally zero first-person games off the top of my head.
I love how they say that it's dangerous standing near Sven when he's playing a wizard because he's very chaotic with his spells and then Sven comes and says he likes the wild mage the most because of all the chaos xD
Reminds me of watching the Viva La Dirt League D&D campaign. Their Sorcerer, Baradun, wild surged while prepping for a fight and ended up dropping a fireball right at the party's feet. And that's how they started a major boss fight haha.
Great comment, thank you! I'm watching the whole video anyway but it helps to keep things organized, especially if I want to come back later when the game launches to help me decide :D
@@Purifycaly necromancer is a subclass of the wizard. I know the comment above me already said this, but since they tagged another person, you would have never got a notification.
I love when Adam talked abt how being a goth growing up led him to play Rogue when he first played tabletops, or how his sister always plays a wildshaping Druid because she loves nature - the stories really show how personal this game is to Larian staff and why we feel such love and dedication for the game.
For those that haven't played Baldur's gate before. This one will be different from the others. It uses the rules of 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons with some tweaks. They have done a great job so far
BG2 will be always the King of crpg nothing comes close, i play bg3 early access and is a good game but dont match the magic in bg2 even the enviroment are much more dark asthetic in bg2
When DOS2 dropped, it was such a game changer for me. I tried playing games like pillar of eternity or pathfinder but couldn't that high. Cant wait for BG3 or DOS3 in 10 years
@@GuyLogen DOS2 is not like any other game, it's not quite XCom, it's like. XCom Plus. The entire game is about using your abilities as creatively as you can to create massive carnage, but your enemies can also do it as well.

@@Kaspisify im curious, what did you like so much about the bard? I'm always curious about the bard but somehow I always prefer, warlocks, sorcerers, paladins, rogues and so on....
@@blackyraypatrick9041 it has a lot of nice dialogue options related to being a bard and performance. The spells to choose from are really good, but it can also hold it's own in ranged and melee combat. It's really immersive and you can really play as an entertainer.
@@blackyraypatrick9041 and to add to that. When opponents attack or do any kind of roll, you can insult them to lower their roll haha. So if they roll a 14 and need a 14 to hit you, you insult them and they miss. It's automatic by default when you get it. But you can also activate it on manual so you get to choose what rolls to react to or not.
Having already played over 500 hours of Act 1 in early access with several different classes, I'm fairly certain I'm going to be playing this game for years with all the content, choices and replayability they're offering.
@@Plovchik90 what kind of powerful? I'd generally say cleric (storm) or barbarian (bear totem), but there are other options and it depends on some of the changes they make
@@Plovchik90 It's a team game, so I don't think there is really a most powerful class. Every class has strengths and weaknesses and the compliment each other. Thus far though, I've liked my tiefling warlock. Eldritch blast is soooo fun.
@@mbdelorenzo Me in my DnD 5e campaign. Tiefling Warlock spamming Eldritch Blast with Eldritch Blast invocations. What I love about it: The range, the massive knockback or pull forwards, the multiple beams, the bonus damage from charisma modifier.
I've said it a thousand times and I'll say it again. Any class that let's me punch the living daylights out of a monster 4× my size, is the class I'm playing first.
The way the lead developers talk about Swen is way beyond how the people at e.g. Bethesda talk about Todd Howard. It shows a passion and companionship that every studio should have.
I bought the game 2 weeks ago to get ready for the full release. I'm trying a Bard, as i wanted a character using sword, cast a few spells and with high social skills for influencing conversations. I played a Paladin in the original BG games, and i wanted to try a class i never played yet. I'm enjoyng my time so far and i think i will stick with a Bard with the full game.
I was playing D&D before 5e came out, and I played Pathfinder, and I had always refused to play a bard because I thought they'd be lame. Decided to make my first 5e character a bard right after it came out.... now I'm known for a playing bards a lot.
I'm going to go with a mage class because I love raining down extremely powerful and badass looking spells upon my enemies. It always makes me feel so cool. lol I will have a bard in my team because like you said, bards are good for social situations which I know there a lot of in BG3. I'll also have a rogue because lockpicking, stealth, and thievery are always super important in these kinds of games. Not sure who my 4th party member will be. Probably a barbarian so I have a tank to aggro attacks away from me, the squishy mage.
@@ThwipThwipBoom I generally will have one or the other in my party. One of each is a bit redundant in my eyes, as the Bard has a wealth of skill options that include pickpocket and pick locks - the two essential Rogue skills. They also get many skills per level as the Rogue does, so they're not any better in that regard either. One thing that they do lack however is the Prestige Rogue classes, like Assassin. That isn't available, so if that's what you're looking to become - just use a Rogue and call it good because as I said they're as versatile as a Bard they just don't have the Perform fluency (UNLESS you choose a feat for that).
@@logankerlee That's really good to hear actually! Now I have a free space in my team for whatever. 🎉 What class would you say best compliments a team composed of a mage, rogue/bard, and barbarian?
Drow Swords Bard for me, perhaps with one level of Draconic Sorcerer (White Dragon Bloodline) for Armour of Agathys, Shield, and Magic Missile or Absorb Elements, plus some nice offensive cantrips.
Thank you all so much I want to get into DND but could never find someone to play with so this is a DND experience that I have been waiting for can’t wait to play!
Same. I wasn't allowed to play DnD as a kid because of the "Satanic Panic" of the late 80s, early 90s. I think it had a big impact, because I didn't know many people in school who played DnD. I've played twice as an adult.
i loved that too! i think another good way of explaning what Warlocks are about is that instead of having a sword that you hit with most turns, you have eldric blast as a spell. I didnt like warlocks that much, but i tried them in Solasta (another good dnd game even if the graphics and animations arnt that good) and now i really like them! :D
I'm suffering from a significant case of class choice paralysis. I always start as a wizard, but every class sounds so well fleshed out that I can see myself likely having 12 playthroughs of this game. Then add to that all the sub-classes!
Larian deserves the success this game will give them. Their passion really shows. I just hope they can keep their talent together moving forward, without dissolving into failure. I'm hoping greedy WoTC doesn't ruin the success Larian has made with their IP. Great works happen out of love like this, and it shows. WoTC should take note. They did everything in their power to get rid of all the talent that gave their success in the first place.
as a 5e player, this interview really invites me to experience the fantasy of baldur's gate 3. for instance at 1:51 i briefly imagined a world where i choose a spell from magical secrets that isn't counterspell.
I'd like to know why they chose the circle of spores over another circle, like Shephard, Dreams, Stars or Wildfire. Love the spore circle, I play a lizardfolk, druid that has spores as his circle, and his whole backstory involves a dead fungus-covered dragon that his people worship and offer up body parts to gain their abilities.
probably chose spores because of it's relevance to certain parts of BG3. Lots of druids in Act 1, and without spoiling too much, there are some areas and quests that are appropriate for a Spores Druid. There's also a lot of Underdark in this game as well, which is another reason I think they chose spores druid and gloomstalke ranger in particular. They seem to have limited themselves to 3 subclasses per class, otherwise it would get messy pretty quick and balancing would be all over the place, and it seems like they chose subclasses that are appropriate for, or relate to, the setting. They did squeeze some subclasses together too, like pact of blade/hexblade warlock and some others.
I would guess 2 reasons: it's one of the most popular druid subclasses in 5e because it's interesting, and it may feel appropriate like GomulDart said.
@@The_Babe yes, exceptions. I would argue cleric and wizard are just that complex in the PHB while a lot of the cool subclasses for the other classes comes mainly from different supplemental material and homebrew stuff, so they picked and chose for some classes while cleric/wizard got the "full treatment" since almost everything there is "default" even if it is a lot
I would highly recommend playing Dark Alliance 2 which is the best Baldur's Gate game. I love DnD as much as the next guy but man Baldur's Gate 3 was such a huge let down. Maybe future DLC will help it, but after playing the early access I was extremely disappointed with how it is. Way too many bugs, runs awful even on a 4090 and the gameplay is just stale and bland.
Typically they're pretty chill and mellow, and have tactical combat so everything is kind of like a puzzle. A lot of the fun is from coming up with creative ways to solve these combat puzzles. Usually have great stories to tell, too
These guys seem so genuine and have an apparent love for their craft. I’ve been playing bg3 non stop. As someone who has never played D&D and knew literally nothing about it before coming into this game, they’ve done a great job at making this an accessible and epic experience for everyone
I am playing Diablo for few weeks and i got totally bored. No variety. I picked BG3 last week and it has been amazing. The flexibility of the build is insane
Understandable, I enjoyed Diablo 4 from level 1 to maybe 55. Not a lot of variety, sure, but it was a steady trickle of progression constantly. It was a relaxing game for 95% of the time, without the exception being the last 30 seconds of most bosses. Leveling began to slow to a grind after level 50. So I never made it past the first paragon board, but I like the idea of it.
@@ex0stasis72 yeah after level 55 I pushed to level 75+ in the hopes it will help me in some interesting build, but the drop at level 75 is worse than drop at level 55-60. Only single player is ok but that does not justify the price
I love the passion from these guys, its so rare in the gaming industry these days. I've been holding off on playing this until the full release and I cannot wait to dive into this game.
They said bards get their "magical secret" at 10, but Lore get it at 6th as well. Really hoping they stuck to that, that's the primary appeal of Lore, at least for me.
I'm sure they will, considering that is one of their main features, they didn't mention extra attacks for Swords and Valour bards either, but I'm sure they'll get them
I love how one dev seems like a PR guy, one dev seems like he's having fun with the interview responsibly and one dev definitely smoked a lil before the show 😂
I've been hoping to create my Way of Shadow Monk / Gloom Stalker Ranger character from tabletop since long before they even announced the inclusion of those subclasses. Very excited to see all the attention those classes/subclasses have received!
@@salieri666 I've never tried playing a Four Elements Monk before, since the tabletop version is considered very weak, but that's another subclass Larian seems to have made significant changes to, so it will be interesting to see what that looks like!
@@rymcmanus Thanks, I am thinking between monks subclasses, but don't want to make wrong choose, open hand seems strong without doubt. Using melee attacks with magic is quite interesting though in 4 elements so this opportunity attract me.
Wow, I just pitched this exact build for a character idea to my discord group (we have a 4 player run planned at release) but I was actually having trouble figuring out how to do my build. Part of me wants to start Monk to lvl 6 for shadow step asap, then go gloomstalker but I haven't decided on how many levels given BG3's lvl 12 cap. This might sound crazy, but I'm considering 1 lvl Monk, then 1 lvl Ranger (for Hunter's Mark to use with Flurry of Blows for early damage boost), then back to Monk til lvl 6. The main reason for this is that I don't know how long it will take to get to lvls 7-8 in game, but it'll probably feel like forever since we're doing a completionist run. I don't want to lag behind the rest of my party too much but I figure I can stomach getting my 2nd attack one level later than everyone else. Care to share any tips?
@@theexpatriate Yeah, the level order issue is always one of the most challenging parts of multiclassing for me. I think it's basically impossible to say right now since we don't know the full extent of the changes Larian has made to the Monk. During the class showcase, they mentioned a new ability called "Shadow Strike", and it's not clear where that fits in (is it truly an additional ability, or a replacement for Shadow Step that folds in an attack a la Backstab from DOS2? if so, can it be used out of combat?).
There's so many cool classes and archtypes and ways to play the game that are cool and fleshed out and interesting... and I'm just going to end up being overwhelmed and indecisive and play a blank slate character
If you are playing a wizard, go for the evocation school and you will get the feature to create safe spaces inside AOE spells like fireball, so that your companions don't take any damage from them.
These group of men are so genuine. They will continue to make amazing games for years to come 🤞🏻 praying Microsoft doesn’t buy them after this triple a budget release
Coming into this a bit blind and really excited. Not played DnD before but i can clearly see these guys have had a lot of fun making this and love their job
trust me - its a very good way of getting into dungons and dragons and understanding several of the rules, even if someof them are changed a bit by larian.
Mmm, I tried the first game and realized it was severely overhyped. Good for its age, I suppose. For the record, I have no issue with older games in general.
@@fabianthecownip Yeah, the people who gush over how great the first two - especially the first one... - were, are in the thrall of nostalgia. They're decent games, and were excellent in their time, but severely dated now, and there are many better options these days. BG3 looks excellent, however :)
The thing I love the most about Larian is that they are really passionate about what they do and it is reflected in BG3. Can't wait to play full game 😊
They basically made a comprehensive and faithful adaption of the 5th edition D&D rules. The original Baldur's Gate games were the first proper video game adaptions of the 2nd edition D&D ruleset, so this third entry is being done very much in the same spirit even though it's also a very different game.
Thank you so much for releasing this video! As a newb to the world of DnD, I've felt very unsure about the class I wanna make first. Thanks to this video, I'm thinking monk, cleric, or druid sound phenomenal. I cannot WAIT to sink my teeth into this game. Gonna wait for PS5 release with baited breath. Thank you larian studios - this game is shaping up to be an experience that we will tell our grandchildren about. I am ecstatic.
In case anyone takes it too literally, you don't 'need' a rogue. They get bonuses to disarming traps and picking locks, but other characters can do that. Because of her stats and skills for example, Shadowheart makes a very good stand-in for Astarion (the 'origin' rogue you can recruit)
I know this game has been in early access forever but I haven’t seen a single thing about it aside from small interviews like this and I’m getting so stoked now that it’s all coming to fruition.
Much love to all of these guys but especially that dude on the right. His opinions on the classes were so frank and relatable! About classes from *a game he made and is trying to market!* Great stuff love this studio
One thing that is a little disappointing is that you can’t hear your own character in cutscenes if you make a badass character you want to hear him in cutscenes
Great, now I want to play every class and I've no idea what to play first!🤪 I can't wait to start and managed to play only 13h in EA to spoil as less as possible for my first playthrough 😋 greetings from switzerland
Looking forward to multiclassing like mad. Shadowheart with Rogue levels when I'm playing the primary Cleric, Astarion with gloomstalker, Lae'zel with barbarian (you know she has anger issues)(assuming I don't throw her off a cliff), Karlach already spent some time in war so being a fighter works well (plus we can throw Lae'zel off the cliff!), and Will is an obvious paladin.
Questionable as for the overarching narrative but there’s plenty of little bits where your character’s class and race can influence various aspects of side quests/ sub stories.
This game will have more replayability than any other game I can think of. So many choices of Races/subraces and Classes/subclasses. I think it's over 500 different combinations. Just crazy! I think my first playthrough will be as a Deep Gnome Rogue/Thief. Then "only" 500+ more choices after that! 😯
From playing in early acess, a Barbarian Dwarf totally makes sense - especially the stone sub-race for Dwarf that gives them more hitpoints. Like more hitpoints to a class that already gives you a really large amount of hitpoints :D
I can’t decide whether I want to do my first full play through as a bard, a wizard, a sorceress or warlock…..😢 I love how ALL of these classes felt in early access. Going to be a tough decision for me 😅
So excited for this game, held off buying because I want to experience the game with no insight for my first play through. Just like BG2 back in the day. I've never played a monk but to hear they've gone all out in the fighting styles and animation I think I've got my first class.
the ranged pet class has always been what I first try out in games that have them, so I think I'll try out Ranger first, then maybe warlock and after that, a tank of some sort.
Playing Early Access and loving it. BG3 is everything you'd want from a d&d video game imo. Hoping it gets really tightened up for release. Looking forward to the full game.
