Once you hit those levels to abuse spells and even summons like the Imp or Elementals you will rule the battlefield blasting it away.
I always go back and forth between Fiend warlock and hunter ranger... can't decide which one to settle on and havent made it out of act 1 because of it.... which would you say holds up better?
If you want to go with magic and pick your own spells go for the Warlock. If you want to go for range weapons like the longbow or hand crossbow go for the hunter ranger. I'd say Fiend Warlock is slightly better however if you do Gloom Stalker ranger it blows the Fiend Warlock away with damage. Multi class the Gloom Stalker Ranger with Thief Assassin DPS is insane.
@WitchThorn Armor, if you're proficient in it, you won't get penalized for it. If you equip armor that you not, you are unable to cast spells to disadvantages on rolls. Wear armor you are proficient in. As for Gloom Stalker they get an extra 1d8 damage at the start of combat, and no stealth required.
