i know the oceans are massive and there are plenty of bizarre lifeforms inhabiting them today, but sometimes I really wish species like this and other cambrian era sea life existed in the modern day. the vast amount of unique bodily structures and lifestyles makes life from that time in earth's history look completely alien.

There's some truely alien stuff out there, but yeah, seeing a Radiodont swim by would be really incredible.

The fact it looks truly alien strikes fear into me from what real aliens (if they exist) would look like. What a beautiful animal and I’m glad we know so much about them :)
@HenrythePaleoGuy
@HenrythePaleoGuy 2 года назад
Can certainly see that. Very different from what we commonly think of as animals. We've got a big tetrapod bias there, haha. Amazing how we can glean so much from their fossils.
@reuireuiop0

Our bias is far more towards the biped, equipped with hands and opposable thumbs. Most aliens we picture as human like with big eyes, pale complexion and skinny limbs

This seems so amazing; the graphics, the content, I’m absolutely all about it. Hence, and I really hate to say this - but I just couldn’t get through it. :( Which is such a shame! I, and I’m sure so many others like me, would otherwise be such huge fans. The only problem I had was with the clearness of your voice.. And I honestly don’t mean this as an insult, so please, don’t take it as such. You otherwise have a great voice for narration my man. I mean that. But perhaps you could invest in a better quality microphone, or give elocution a bit of a practice? Unfortunately I had such a hard time understanding that I even tried to use those poorly machine-written auto-subs that RU-vid provides, and they can’t speak for anyone - especially when it comes to the beautifully complex topics you’re tackling. I can see you going so much further with your channel, so considering that is my only note definitely ain’t bad! Good luck bud, here’s somebody really rooting for you. (:
@HenrythePaleoGuy
@HenrythePaleoGuy 2 года назад
I will definitely look into more of that. I really appreciate the comment! Always aiming to improve. Will do some more experimenting with my current microphone, if that helps. Are any of my more recent videos similar to this one in terms of audio quality, as a reference?

The over-the-top gamer voice is probably the most irritating thing a host can do, hoping you aren't suggesting forced enthusiasm. FWIW, im not sure I see any issues. Maybe.......trying to move away from a dull "reading voice". Not that that's how'd describe his current pattern.

Your content is great and I have gladly subscribed. I will say that the sound recording quality of your voice does make it harder to understand in places. The subtitles are autogenerated, so they are entertaining but incorrect. As your vocabulary is necessarily very specialized (which is good) it is harder to infer what was said and fill in the gaps. I'd love to be able to do searches for some of the terminology you use. Great channel and look forward to more.

The day I recorded this was trickier than usual, so that didn't help. Will aim to speak more clearly in the future. As always, all of what I talk about is sourced in the video description, so there's more to find out there. :)

God I wish so so badly I could go back in some sort of bubble that keeps me from touching anything and vise versa, and look directly at these funky little critters and watch em squiggle thru the water and stuff... see things that didn’t fossilize or that we haven’t found yet OORRRR they’re just so old they’ve been recycled thru the core and all that. I’d give almost anything for that opportunity, and I’d certainly give any material things in exchange for such an honor. As if my trivial creature comfort doodads would carry any sort of significance in exchange for an alien to take me back in time.. but who knows, maybe he’s missing Gimli from the LOTR toy set and he’d really like to have mine. You never know...?

personally i just wanna see what would happen if I took a few hundred trilobites and dropped them off in modern day oceans. assuming modern crustaceans and sharks dont immediately out compete them or overpredate them, they might have the potential to become the most common seafloor life like they once were.

Is it just convergent evolution or do the animals then just prefer a certain shape in the early oceans and other bodies of water? It's as though their relatives just became smaller versions.
@HenrythePaleoGuy
@HenrythePaleoGuy 2 года назад
Some body plans are heavily selected for in these kinds of environments due to heavy selection pressures, hence why the fusiform body shape is so uniformly common across aquatic animals today and throughout history.

Petty, but still a pet peeve: I hate when people inaccurately declare something to be deductive rather than inductive. We BELIEVE based on evidence available the things we ASSUME about these creatures -- we very, very, very, very rarely KNOW anything about them.
@HenrythePaleoGuy
@HenrythePaleoGuy 2 года назад
Like what? Many things in science and paleontology especially have to be heavily referred to and compared to living examples, although this does not mean that we know next to nothing about these kinds of animals, especially when their preservation is this good.
