I'll agree 100% with baling when there is dew on the alfalfa. When I used to farm I would go out at anywhere from 11PM to 1 AM depending on how much dew the hay absorbed by that time. I would bale the rest of the night as the leaf retention was excellent. It was kind of cool to watch the sun come up while finishing up the field. Great video!! You might want to start considering using polyurethane foam I've been doing the state-of-the-art open-air Dairies in Idaho where they have the misting system and the curtains we put 2in of spray foam on the roof but I did notice that you are a wood frame building down here they're Steel I've learned a lot considering I come from Kodiak Island Alaska

That poor ole Bobcat needs some tlc, I think your hauling a whole load stuck on to it. Good job on the alleys. Always feels to get these things done. He should clean it everyday. If i left anything dirty at the dairy i worked at years ago, I would’ve got my arse chewed out. I know it may get dirty again but it’ll last a lot longer.
Jan, why not tip the water troughs out before you started cleaning the dung passage way out, then the floor starts off dry? Plus those bales, you can see the difference, but is that also due to different parts of the field, crops growing better etc? Just a couple of comments- and the steer with its head stuck- typical dumb trick they pull every so often lol!!!

No, I'd say. 1. It would take a big investment in equipment to collect & use the biogas. 2. Then they would have to buy commercial fertilizer for the fields to replace the manure they use now. 3. That commercial fertilizer is energy-intensive to produce & transport to their farm, just to replace the manure that is produced naturally, and is right at their location. So that is a net loss for the planet.
Poor steer! He just wanted the good green stuff on the other side of the fence. In this case, the grass is greener on the other side. I see they care for their animals, but factory farming is not natural and a sad life for the cows.

Love the calf that got stuck in the fence. Cows can be so funny. My neighbors cows got out and in to my garden one year munching away. I kept tapping on the butt with a board they just mooed and kept munching the neighbor and I had quite a time getting them out. I guess the garden tasted good.
I think the cows are funny too. They are curious creatures. I sometimes feel sorry for them, but I made my peace with how farm animals are treated years ago.
Can't wait till your expansion is complete so that you can get a normal day of work in instead of trying to get around everything that is in the way to complete a job like cleaning pens out and moving cows around. You always produce awesome videos and your family farm is always neat, you should be proud of yourself and your family as it shows everyone is doing there job.

Everything is looking great! I do believe within a month that addition will be done & functional. Sometimes cutting it close to the line works out fine. For me, the heating repairs to my home are scheduled right on the day we usually get our first snow! Kind of exciting.
@@andrewterry8092 LOL. I was kind of serious. Quite of few guys in our area do that in between turkey/chicken/hog barns so that they don't have to keep the grass mowed.
Given the large roofs feeding water into that space, should plant water-hungry crops in there. Rice, cotton (will those grow in Sask)?, Maybe watermelon? But they need a fair amount of sun, and that area looks to be shaded most of the time. Maybe some olive or almond trees -- they'll grow higher to get more sun. But this might just add to their workload, for little gain.
@@mathewkoesters4867 I could't resist, the way you worded it was like, no big deal, just a few clicks to add sheep, goats and chickens to make it 'look' right, regardless of the market for these animals in Saskatchewan. They hardly have enough rain to grow anything, weeds don't seem to be a problem for the short growing season. Hell, it's so short they can't grow corn, they silage barley.
