I’m so sorry you lost the love of your life, sir. My heart breaks for you, and my thoughts are with you. The fact that you realize and acknowledge your part in what caused the loss is beyond respectable, admirable, and truly commendable; it takes a lot to reflect upon one’s own mistakes, faults, flaws, wrongdoings, and so on. I blamed myself for so long for the way my last relationship ended, subsequently making me feel as though I was toxic and undeserving of a love like that. But after years of therapy, I’ve come to realize and understand that, not only does it take two to make a relationship, but it takes two to break one. It’s safe to say that one party may have played a bigger part in the destruction of it, but that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve forgiveness. The hardest part is forgiving yourself. And ghat can feel entirely impossible. But I hope you’ve learned to forgive yourself over the past five years. We all make mistakes, and we all have regrets, and we can’t always fix things, let alone take them back. But if you’ve learned from those mistakes, you can and will be better for it. You’re worthy of love and forgiveness. I just try to hold faith in there being reasons as to why things happen, and yeah, “there’s a lot of fish in the sea,” or... whatever. But a man who can love someone as hard as you seem to have loved/love is a miraculous, special and precious thing. So I hope you invite the opportunity to love and be loved into your life. Don’t push it away. Maybe something greater is around the corner, or maybe something greater has already presented itself. I know this is long, and I’m sorry for that. I just want you to know you’re not alone, and you’re not alone in feeling like Hate in this song. But the love you had isn’t gone. Love doesn’t disappear. I’m sure you’ll both love one another forever, even if it’s from afar. Take that, let it be who you are: unconditional love.
