Hope you like my brand new video intro! It took me a while to make.
Anyhoo, this video is me finally welding the shave skid onto the 10.5 housing. I used the ENiFe-Cl welding wire (also known as NI-55 or Nicore-55) and a preheat to make sure I never ever deal with cracks. The welding wire is made from nickel and iron and is designed for welding steel to iron.
Note I also used the backstepping method which is shown to reduce warpage. Also note I needle scale each bead right after welding. The needle scaler shot peens the welds which relieves tension in the cooling bead and further reduces cracking. Once the deep peening is done, a little wire wheel to peen the surface helps too. My last trick is the welding blankets. Preheat one last time, then wrap with welding blankets so the metal assembly cools evenly and slowly. The thinner AR500 plate wants to cool off faster than the massive cast iron pumpkin, which can lead to cracking if the temperatures differ too much.
Hope this helps!
P.S. Please sponsor me Ballistic! ;) I'll do another great video on the front axle shave too! Also, I could use your rebuildable joints on my double tri rear and my parallel for link front. For my final point, I will be vinyl wrapping the durango, and I can add your name and logo right down the side of my wrap!
