Hornady Superformance $60/box vs Norma Whitetail $25/box. What this test showed me was there wasn't enough of a difference to spend the extra cash on the Superformance. A better comparison would have been Hornady American Whitetail vs Norma Whitetail.
As can be seen in 1:29 and 3:06, the block has been hit excentric, when shooting hornady. Thus the bullet has to deform less material to reach the same cavity as the other bullets. This can be easily seen when looking at the assymetric shape of the cavities. This is less the case when looking at the e.g. norma 3:56.
Why did you select the worst performing bullets that Norma and RWS has. If you have compared Norma Ecostrike or Oryx and RWS Evolution-bullet with the Hornay bullets it would have been a much more intresting and relevant test.
They won't to push their product. Hornady is good and all but nosler, Barnes, higher end federal, all keep up and some do better. At the end of the day, any bullet out in target is more than likely gonna get the job done.
Probably because RWS HIT and Norma Ecostrike is better than Hornady GMX....? This is like putting a Mercedes Benz Geländewagen vs. Porsche 911 and Ferrari F12 in a offroad test. Put Hornady GMX up against Norma Ecostrike, RWS HIT, Lapua Naturalis, Barnes TTSX, Nosler E-Tip, Peregrine Bushmaster/Plainsmaster, Fox Classic Hunter, Sellier & Bellot Exergy Blue, Winchester Supreme Elite XP3, Kbv Copperbolt and Federal Trophy Copper.
I watched this without sound the first go-round. It was interesting enough. After reading some of the music comments, I thought, "Could it really be that bad?" I seriously could only go about 10-15 seconds in before I hit pause.
I'll say this, shot LOTS of bullets through my four Ruger Americans, all different calibers, and Hornady is by far the most consistent bullet I have ever shot. I will say that RWS looked quite impressive.
What is the distance between the shooter and blocks? I think this is a critical piece of information to be able to apply the expansion results in this video to relative hunting distances. I'm really only concerned with the GMX, Hornady's advertised expansion pictures for the 150gr GMX only show 2000fps and 2700fps impact velocities. With a 2900fps muzzle velocity, 2700 fps would be roughly 100yds and 2000fps would be roughly 450yds. Pictures of a 150gr GMX expansion at 2500fps and 2300fps impact velocities would be very useful information. I would love to do the tests myself, but ballistic gel is expensive as are GMX bullets, but maybe at a later date. I'm not bashing the video or data, just giving feedback from a customer's prospective.
I prefer the fast energy transfer of the european bullets. But in that case, if you want to compare your sst and gmx with the european ammo, you must choose the norma tipstrike or bondstrike and in rws, the speed tip pro.
Hello , I’m an avid hunter and I have a request to ask of you. I’m considering switching from my usual Federal Premium 130 gr Nosler BT in .270 for a low recoil round. I read and seen a very limited amount of reviews on your 270 Win 120 gr SST Custom Lite round. I’m considering making a change for life. I’m a hemophiliac and I can not endure the recoil that I have been using for a long time. I can only go to the range twice maybe three time a year. The recoil creates bad bruising and pain in my right shoulder. If I can’t find the right ammo I’m will have to give up rifle hunting and move on with crossbows. I have a Savage 110 lightweight Storm chambered in .270, and I simply love it to the core. It’s my favorite rifle and would hate to leave it behind. Can you please do a ballistics test video I’m on this customs lite round and also show the recoil of the person holding shooting the ammo in the video. Maybe a bone in ballistic test. I love hunting and enjoy the sport very much. Could you please accept my request. Thank you in advance. If you can’t or decide not to no hard feelings I’ll keep searching and asking other ammunition manufacturers.
I'm not with Hornady or any ammunition manf. but I have 3 options for you 1 - (Keeping your rifle/load same) When sighting in your rifle get a lead sled - they can almost completely eliminate recoil when shooting at the range and thus allow you to sight your rifle in and then deal with the one shot during hunting season 2 - (same rifle/load) getting recoil reduction systems - limbsaver butt pad and a large directional muzzle break - the pad will soften the impact and breaks have seen decreases from 18%-35% of felt recoil 3 - do all of the things prior but get a cartridge that has less recoil to start like a 6.5CM or a 7mm-08 they can both be used on basically all animals in the lower 48/have pretty great ballistics and a popular enough to get ammo at most gun shops/retailers - I have personally taken an ultralight rifle in 6.5CM and with a new pad and muzzle break it feels similar to a .243 - its been great for kids and they don't flinch nearly as bad as some that jumped straight into a .270/.30-06.
Change rifle to AR-15 in 6.8 SPC. with muzzle brake. That will be the least amount of recoil felt. Or, you can also have a muzzle brake put on your rifle and add weight to the inside of the front of the stock. I did that to a Rem. 30-06. With reduced power loads it will take a lot of the recoil out. If you don't backpack up and down mountains a lightweight rifle is not needed. Lightweight rifles are not good on recoil.
Great. A infomercial with some random competitor bullets, basically whatever they found performing worse than their product in that specific test in an unrealistic ballistic media. Did i forget something? Oh yeah! The music is going to haunt me in my dreams, never heard such terrible and cursed noise before. Absolutely awful.

The Hornady SST was the best performaing bullet/load. To evaluate and compare the performance of hunting bullets / hunting ammunition following parameters are the most crucial: 1. Tissue destruction - For the rapid onset of lethal effect in the game, the maximum possible tissue destruction is required. This is reflected in the values of volume, diameter and length of the temporary cavity. The greater the temporary cavity in the soap block, the more tissue around the bullets path is destroyed and the quicker the game will be down. This is the most important parameter. 2. Diameter of the cavern - This shows the bullets overall capability of transferring its energy into tissue destruction. 3. Path to maximum diameter - This value shows how quickly the bullet could transfer its energy into tissue destruction.
it's funny what Hornady says about the ELD-X bullet... "evolution of performances". they just fix the problem of the melting point they have on the others bullets
My SST’s kills deer but my Berger’s kill them DRT. Many good bullets out there from almost all manufacturers to be honest. Except powerbelts. Those just suck all around.
Now THIS is a proper test. So many fools on here shooting bricks and milk jugs as a ballistics test. UGH! Thank you for posting this. I use Hornady SST 170gr using W-748 pushing to 2,835 fps. Really accurate and knocks'em dead!
I have shot a lot of Hornady ammunition through the years and have taken a lot of game with it I've also hunted with a lot of Norma and will take Norma anytime
Hornady aren't bad...but far away to be like RWS... I hunt with RWS .308 winchester KS since 2016. I shot 4 times and took 4 chamois...yep chamois with .308.. All my collègues hunt with 270 winchester or 7mm remington magnum, and they miss kinda too much. They all use Hornady and Norma.
"Professional shooter" ... Keeps finger on trigger, CHECK. Changes grip and position of support hand for each shot, CHECK. Bladed instead of square behind the rifle, CHECK. Yeah, he's a professional alright.
Aint good test. First you took the worst from Norma and RWS,best from Hornady. Second all 3 bullets arent to preform same on same distance there by you should have fire each of them on distance where manufacturer says they preform best. And finaly the shot placment of each bullet is not the even similiar thus some showed better/worse results then other. P.S balistic gel quality or to say better eaqulity is questionable to say atleast. I dont say Hormady is bad,but RWS and Norma are better in reality then presented in this video.
If you only fulfilled ammo orders. 6.5 PRC non-existent. Let's come out with something new (7mm PRC) that we can make people mad they can't find . Pft!
Beware of Norma Brass! Safety Warning! I got brass failure/head separation after only 3 loadings. Using the same load with Hornady brass, I have had absolutely no problems. The Hornady brass have been loaded 16-18 times! Buy Hornady and don't take a chance on getting injured with Norma brass.
