It's nice to see the obvious legacy of the old Balto-Slavic language there, some of these words are still very similar or almost the same in Slavic languages as well (Czech in this case): Akmeni/Kámen Ezers/Jezero Wundan/Voda Vētra/Vítr Pērkons/Perun (name of the Baltic and Slavic thunder gods, in some Slavic languages this term is sometimes used for a thunder as well) Grummins/(G)Hrom Zvaigzne/(G)Hvězda Laukas/Louka Greetings to our Baltics brothers, amazing culture and people of the real ancient legacy!

I guess Baltic and Slavic proximity made both language groups keep cognates more closely, than other Indo-European languages, despite Balto-Slavic division happening very long ago.

Estonian is a Finno-Ugric language, belonging to the Finnic branch. "Nordic" languages are either Finno-Ugric or Germanic (Swedish, Norwegian etc.). Finnish, Estonian, Livonian etc. come from the same Proto-Finnic language, so Estonian is not so much influenced by Finnish as it's just another branch from the same root language. We also have "metsä" in Finnish, which I find surprising. You'd think Finno-Ugrics would've came up with their own word for such a basic thing well before meeting Baltic people.

I love how Lithuanians were like dead last in the christianization of Europe (unless you count the mari and maybe some Caucasian tribes) I was an altar boy in a Lithuanian church as a kid in South Boston, Im of Irish descent and Southie is predominantly Irish but there was a large Lithuanian population as well. I figured out that if I served the early morning Lithuanian language masses that I'd make a bundle. All the old ladies wouldn't pinch my cheeks and call "geras berniukas" and tell me I'd be the first Lithuanian pope. I didn't have the heart to tell them I was Irish. Then they'd slip me an average of five dollars. I honestly tried to not take it but even the priest said I should so as not to insult. There were days when I'd get over a hundred dollars....IN 85, 86. Between that, my paper route, snow shoveling and making pizza boxes I was KID RICH.

@@naujadiena Juokaujat? Apie lingvistika net nesakykit man. Pvz. Lietuvių "kirvis" = suomių "kirves" Lietuvių "laivas" = suomių "laiva" Lietuvių "gatvė" = norvegų "gate" Lietuvių "bernas" = norvegų "barn" Ir tai tik mažutis pavyzdys. Kalbant apie genus: "Why scientists claim that Baltic gene was formed when European haplogroup was mixed with a Finnic one? Balts and Finnic people almost always lived together. Baltic genome was formed when eastern Germanic people mixed with Finnic people. The brown color doesn’t indicate where the Balts dominate but rather where the Baltic haplogroup can be found. At the same time there is no Scandinavian haplogroup but when the Scandinavian population samples were taken and tested, it found the L1 haplogroup. The researchers looked at what languages those people spoke. They spoke Danish, Swedish and Norwegian. So there is no such thing as Scandinavian genome but the predominant genome of Scandinavian people is L1. There is no Baltic genome but people that speak Baltic languages predominantly have Finnic, Germanic and Baltic genome. I hope that is clear."
