We are at quarters of Steadman Station Firehouse of the Baltimore City Fire Department, which houses Engine 23, Rescue 1, Battalion 6, HazMat, Medic 1, and Medic 23 at 15 Eutaw Street, where we see the Rescue as they respond to a 56A01 call at 218 North Charles Street between East Lexington Street and Charles Plaza for people trapped in an elevator. Originally, Engine 23 was supposed to respond as well, but for some reason they got taken off the Box. Rescue 1 is a 2015 Pierce Arrow XT. Engine 23 is a 2008 Pierce Enforcer. Enjoy the view of the rig as it responds. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on December 5th, 2022.

It's people stuck in an elevator, a common but not a life or limb threatening call in the big city.

In case you guys don't know, this station is named after Deputy Chief John F. Steadman, who died in 1940 after 27 years with the Baltimore City Fire Department.

I still remember the day BCFD went out of service back in February and how all the other paid and volley departments from around Maryland and DC came to help cover calls so they could bury those 3 members they lost in January. That was wild to hear about and the support from other departments was mesmerizing to behold. The fire service really is one big family.

Yes , their crew quarter's is up above the apparatus bay so the fastest way to get down to the rigs is by way of poles.

For all of you asking, yes, the new 2022 Seagrave Rescue 1 is in service, it is currently in the shop for scheduled maintenance. They are currently running the spare rescue, which is the 2015 Pierce in this video. Engine 23 always goes on runs with Rescue 1 as a glorified "Squad Unit," because of no nearby squad companies in the Downtown/Inner Harbor areas. It would've made sense if Engine 23 was a Rescue Engine.
@mackflickerson6722
@mackflickerson6722 Год назад
Actually, elevator calls get the closest suppression unit (engine or truck) and the closest rescue unit (Rescue 1 or a squad). The reason is two-fold. If you send an engine or a truck, you’re ways getting the closest available unit to evaluate and secure the situation and determine if additional help is needed. Secondly, a legitimate elevator call may require two companies worth of personal, especially if the system needs locked and tagged out.

Very very nice looking heavy rescue truck, but i thought they had a new Seagraves at that station, that i recently watched on RU-vid, also they should add blue lighting to the back/ rear of the truck, much better safety and scenery to the eyes, also the majority of public safety vehicles are going that way these days mainly fire/ pd and ems units …. My opinion of course..👍👊🏻🚒

I often wonder why BCFD has only one rescue. I'd think with a city that size that there would be at least two active rescues. Did the city ever have more than one?
@boozy5646
@boozy5646 Год назад
After 9/11 the City had the foresight for the need for additional rescues. They created "squads". These units have the same capability as engines with the addition of hydraulic tools, rope rescue, water rescue, wmd etc. They placed one in each quadrant of the city. They closed one in 2012.
@skidude8989

@dbyers3897
@dbyers3897 Год назад
@@skidude8989 But they also have squad companies like Balto, NYC & Boston.
@dbyers3897
@dbyers3897 Год назад
It has more to do with SOPs & size of the city than the population. Baltimore is actually not very big, just built up. NYC is both big & built up so they assign a rescue company to each borough/county, plus eight squad companies to supplement them. Most other large cities have only one or two heavy rescue because their specialized skills & technology aren't needed everywhere or everyday & it's so expensive to purchase, equip & train one. Seattle, Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, etc. Most rescue work is carried out by truck companies. A TRT or heavy rescue is only truly needed for complex or unusual operations such as confined space, high-angle, trench, etc.

@paintballgaming1090 10 месяцев назад
@@dickcoughlin8338 No I really don’t actually my reasoning is pretty sound. They’re stuck in an elevator which in case you didn’t know goes up and down only and doesn’t move otherwise or any other way there’s a very slim threat to their lives and I mean slim because unless someone is having a medical emergency there’s no reason to freak out. I nor any other sane person is going to go sprinting to the truck putting myself at risk for injury and then flooring it down the street and risking the lives of the public for a pretty routine call. The funny part is that you’re claiming I have a reasoning issue yet you’ve provided no sound reason to rush whatsoever.
