1:38 You are witnessing here why some firefighters needlessly die. They are accomplishing nothing while standing on the roof of a burning building. Usually, firefighters die on the job due to bad tactics taught to them. The main one is performing an initial search before they extinguish all Visible Burning Material which they Can accomplish applying tank water through the windows, long before an entry team can be assembled, get fully dressed and get the door open. When the firefighter dies, the Chief and mayor deflect your attention away from that FACT by playing the Emotion or Hero cards. Third Generation REAL Firefighter from an extended family of firefighters!
Ah, you again. Let's start with your "initial search before extinguishment" thing. Primary search has been and will always be conducted as soon as possible, this includes (which you know) search above the fire floor even if the engine company has not located and extinguished the seat of the fire. I'm not sure where you are from, but there is no term deemed "entry team" in the fire service, but for sake of argument, lets use that term here. With that said, "assembling" an "entry team" is an odd way of saying having the truck company do truck work. You're going to sit here and tell me that if a truck company is on scene prior to the engine company, they're going to stand outside and wait for the engine company to arrive, pull a line, find, and extinguish the fire? I don't know where you are a firefighter at, but that is some fucked up logic. Searching in front of the line is not "bad tactics", it sounds like you were poorly taught by people who are too afraid to work in front of the line. Good luck out there.
@andeusmc2030 Fire/Combustion is the threat. It is the virus that causes all the bad symptoms at a structure fire. Heat and smoke. Both killers. Avteuck can not eliminate the threat. On its own and the crew that comes with it, all they do is make the fire breathe and spread, which increases the threat. An engine is designed to stop combustion and decrease the threat. Therefore, an engine should be the first piece of equipment at every single type of structural fire. A firefighter can not go inside without a complete Team. You need to get the door open and bring a charged line in with you. You are talking about no less than 3 people. If one ffer is getting the door open and another is setting a ladder and the third is starting a chainsaw, you don't have a team. Plus, that entire team has to be fully dressed before you go in, and where is the charged line to protect the victims and the firefighters if they didn't bring a hose and water? While they are doing all that, an engine with 500 gallons of waterbonboard and one ffer on a hose has already extinguised most of the burning material and can then hand the line off to the entry team when they finally get ready. That's how you approach every fire. A rescue team I'd worthless without making the environment safe enough to survive. An injured or dead ffer is of no use to anyone.
@andeusmc2030 Vent Enter Search is short-sighted and extremely dangerous. Think about those actions that no departments do. You vent the structure that allows the fire to breathe, increase, and spread. You enter the structure, which is much hotter and contains even more smoke. Then you search an unfamiliar structure while totally blind for victims that you have exposed to even wirse conditions all so you can feel like a hero. A nonthinking or planning hero. You didn't bring a charged line to cool the gasses or extinguish that huge fire that you allowed to grow, so you have threatened not only the victims but yourselves also. What do you think Maydays originate from? VEVE is more effective at protecting victims and firefighters. You Vent the fire room windows to create a pressure release location that allows the heat and flammable gasses a direct path out of the structure and away from the victims. You then Extinguish all Visible Burning Material through those windows. Then you Vent more windows and doors to allow even more hot gasses to escape while allowing fresh, cool air to enter. Then, when the entry team is finally ready to enter the structure with a charged line, provided by the Engine crew, they can Enter and much safer and cooler environment that is much more survivable for the victims. That is what you get when you actually Think about the job rather than React to the job.
