I'm no trained musician but I am a passionate appreciator of music... I have to say there is something truly incredible that happens at around 2:44 in this track. The song begins a transition that is so subtle you almost don't even realize the mood is starting to change. You can undoubtedly hear the mood has changed by 3:00, but the mood has already been subtly shifting for at least 16 seconds. (I would start listening before that mark to truly appreciate the effect, but that's just me) Now, The Love is a Song theme bit has a naturally sweet sadness about it. (Such is the way of life and this is a movie about life.) I am not talking about that sweet longing sadness sound. The part in question transitions from that bit. I am talking about a different feeling that starts to enter; a slight uneasiness that eventually breaks into true fear. To me 2:44 - on just beautifully expresses the dawning of a terrible realization. You start to have the anxiety/fear internally before you can even identify the feeling or thought yourself. You still think you are in this comfortable and safe place, then suddenly the fear is there, before you even realized it was building up. The beautiful artwork in this film shows it too. When viewers watch the scene of the Great Prince walking up the mountain, he is the comfort and the safety. The inspiration. Then you see his body language change, the birds fleeing symbolizing the danger, and his realization. Then the danger is confirmed. I don't mean to focus on the negative emotions, but I just feel like this film really beautifully executed this emotional process; in such an incredibly powerful and real way. Just an absolute master of composition and artwork. This film is truly a work of art.

I agree, it's one of my favourite films of all time. As you said, the masterful animation and beautiful music combine to produce a true work of cinematic wonder. There's the sense of majesty in nature but there's also the sense of constant danger from an omniscient threat (humans). These are things I didn't really pick up on when I first watched this film, when I was about 4 or 5 years old. But we notice more things as we get older.

It’s the key change for sure. Especially at 2:57. You think “huh… that note sounded funny” then it does it again at 3:05. That change is an immediate indicator that something bad is about to happen.

Amen. This was-without question-the Absolute BEST SCORE to a Disney Movie ever made. Hands down.
@Shadywolf09
@Shadywolf09 8 лет назад
I think with each generation comes a different sound. The 30's, 40's and 50's had a refined tone to them, more of a serious time. Snow White- Classical music with a hint of warmth, this being so it could brighten the mood of the audience, seeing that we were going through such hard times. It was one of those things that made you smile, despite the chaos around you. Fantasia, Bambi- Classical, yet, serious. There is not much cheeriness to Bambi but that of romantic love. The scores are haunting, broad and have an undertone of ''lithe'' curiosity (the caution in a deer's demeanor) Fantasia was fun but, kept an ''adult'' aspect to it. The notes were sharper than Disney's other work during the time. Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, and Sleeping Beauty- Had the refined quality but, light-hearted. The music is more subtle (especially in LaTT..as well as Cinderella)

Not so much the story. There wasn’t really much of one. Mind you, that WOULD be because the novel it was based on didn’t have much of a story either. It was a realistic relating of what the author (who was a hunter) envisioned the life of a male roe deer would be like from birth to old age, with any drama arising purely from the natural setting and little character development. So while it was an interesting story, it was never a very strong one, and the film did nothing to change that.

This movie is so old that the songs were used from the orchestra but now a days they don't use this type of music anymore. I actually enjoy the soundtrack of the movie. The soundtrack matches the scenes while in modern times they use the same soundtrack more than one time because they use the computer instead of recording the orchestra, that is stupid to give that up but back then there was no such thing as a computer. I loved Bambi when I was little, it was a good movie but sad because during the middle of the movie, his mom dies because she was shot by hunters.

There actually is a track in this album where you hear a gunshot, the part where Bambi’s mom is killed. There are gunshots at this part in the film as well, probably the ones you remember, but they aren’t included in the track. It’s like the gunshot at the part where Bambi’s mom gets killed is supposed to be part of the song but at this part the gunshots are just sound effects separate from the track. Just some fun facts, if you didn’t already know 🤗 I always thought that it was interesting... I’ve always wanted to know if it was intentional or an over site.

Hmmm. . .ya know I was thinking about that too. I like to think that maybe the Great Prince was just too busy (protecting the forest) to ever meet someone or he just never met the right doe. But then he met Bambi's mom & finally fell in love.

Also, in the very beginning of the film, there's that moment when it's just baby Bambi & his mom, then the camera pans up to show the Great Prince looking at them from that cliff. I like to think that in that moment, he knew that his responsibility had become even greater & he would do anything he can to make sure the forest was safe for his beloved & his new son.

@@Aimeewinterfun2 That's what he is, a distant, but very loving father. That only comes when Bambi really needs his help. :-) Like a mentor.

Same here... Makes me sad everytime. I remember whenever I watched Bambi I would flinch whenever I heard the gun shot. It's sad, really. Still a great movie though.
