I remember both songs as being big radio hits. Like you said, they’re so different, and they’re both representative of their era. Hard to believe there’s only 17 years between them.
Check out the extended mix. In my top 5 most brilliant 80’s extended mixes . It’s absolutely perfection….it’s so layered and perfect. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q-2MmrPpitQ.htmlsi=mFzaMHwO_JZCo2tM
Bananarama are awesome! Check out some of their other songs: Cruel Summer, I Heard A Rumour, Preacher Man, Look On The Floor, Love Comes, Stuff Like That, and Masquerade!
This is actually one of the few covers in history that has completely eclipsed the original. Two of the original members of Bananarama are still recording under the name and are releasing a 40th anniversary greatest hits collection in March called "Glorious" with several new songs. You should check out more of their catalog as they have a lot of amazing songs. Great reaction.
Completely eclipsed the original? I think not. Maybe in the U.K. but not in the U.S. where both versions reached #1 on Billboards top 100. I would hazard a guess that you are significantly younger than me, which probably accounts for our difference of opinion.
