'“We had played with Bob so much, over the years, that we thought: We’ll figure it out. We’ll wing it,” Robertson told Insight Daily Radio. “He wasn’t coming into the city until New Year’s Eve day, you know. And we did - we were just winging it.” The five-member Band and Dylan huddled together before each selection in the 20-minute encore, deciding what was next. “Some of the songs, we had never played together. But even that fell together, in its own kind of way. He sang his heart out, and it was a lot of fun that night.”'

Turned 21 at midnight that night, Happy New Year. Love that beat box sound. At 72 still keeps me together. I'm still blown away. Or in the wind.

Can there be anything better than this version of the Band and Bob Dylan at his strongest. Of course any group that contains Hudson, Robertson, Danko and Helm will never be surpassed.

It was a live album by The Band. They did not want 1/3 of it to be with Dylan. Also, I doubt that Dylan would allow them to include him. Finally, the part with Dylan was unrehearsed. The Band wanted this album to be a great live LP of them. There are some mistakes when Dylan is on stage. They do sound good. But there was no way Dylan was going to be on this great live album. That happens in '74.

Everytime i hear Bob playin live during this 67-73 period, i can´t help but wondering how amazing was if Bob had toured during those years, between his 25/33, probably on his edge as a young man, it was his decision and we have to respect it, but still a pitty. The same with the 66/70 Beattles period, different reasons, but so unfortunately. The guys who influenced almost all others musicians didn´t toured during the greatest period in music history.
@bonscottrocks1728
@bonscottrocks1728 7 лет назад
I agree, but we also have to remember that Bob was burnt to a crisp in 1966. He was on the road and writing from 61-66 and just was to stoned and drunk and I heard a slight heroin addiction? Can't prove that, but he was being pulled in so many directions and he wanted to start a family, and I really think the main reason to shun the public was because of how disrespectful his audience had become towards him on his electric tour. I can't imagine a young man at 25 having to try to calm people down because he wanted to grow as a poet and musician, and all his so called friends and fans screaming at him and threatening the band for playing electric music, unreal and I'll bet all those idiots back then all feel like jack asses today doing what they did to him. Nobody ever questioned the beatles or any other group back then for changing their sound and trying new and different things, but boy did the so called folksy groups try to dismantle this young man. That's one of the main reasons i think he stopped playing and just hung out back home and continued writing other stuff. Fuck, they had woodstock in his backyard (because I had read somewhere that they were hoping he would perform) and he told them to fuck off lol. Only Bob Dylan could do that, and then when he did come back in the 74-78 period ( I think those were his very best)
@jamesobrien7338
@jamesobrien7338 6 лет назад
If you like that period you gotta listen to the songs he did at the Guthrie tribute in 1967, can find them on here or on the album on Spotify
@sealthatsilvermine
@sealthatsilvermine 6 лет назад
If you watch all the video of Dylan performing, on stage and in front of the hostile press (everybody must get stoned) in 1966, it's no surprise. It was still an amazingly fertile period for BD: the Basement Tapes, John Wesley Harding, Nashville Skyline, etc.

Some one got close in my face and said no one your friend but I say I am my best friend. My best wife my best husband. We don't argue with each other much because it stupid a house divided with not stand for long. I think I love and respect me is better than following a band or a real man who claim he is. Love is flitting. I just kick a leaf out of my way and felt better with my day. You don't understand I heard all the boy's lines. I heard all thier complaints. I heard all their requests and I am satisfied and I understand thier not. I am for filled with my life and situation.
