Sassja, thank you for reacting to my favorite rock band in the world. I'm 75 years old and have seen many rock bands live in my life, from the iconic i.e. Cream, The Doors, The Byrds, Led Zeppelin, The Atlanta Rhythm Section, The Allmen Brothers Band, Devo, Elvis and many more. I honestly thought great rock and roll was dead until I discovered Band-Maid on RU-vid. I was able to attend two of their live concerts last year and felt both were some of the best musical experiences I ever had, I came away from the concerts feeling every penny I spent going to it and the hours waiting in line was worth. Band-Maid is just the best. When they announce their next tour in the U.S., if you can make ii, do so. I'll probably be there.

Welcome back to😮 the BandMaid experience! The greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Here's some opinions and facts: •Bass solos are more likely to happen than not. There's a bass solo on their very first video! •Guitar solos are shorter, far shorter than you would like them to be •Unless you are superhuman, you will not/ can not be able to pick up everything they're doing to make that song great on the first listen. •Genre? Genres?? We don' need no stinkin" genre! •You like a hard rocking crazy fast tune? Well how about it done as a slower acoustic version? They do that. •April Fools Day 2019 As a joke they recorded a redo of Secret my Lips with traditional instruments and with lyrics in a Kyoto dialect. MV is stunningly beautiful. •The linchpin member of the band gets the least notice/praise. The Mighty Miku Kobato founder/lead singer steps back to make way for a new more hard rock vocalist. They want her to hold a guitar so she does and learns to play on the fly, performing all the while she's learning. So the person who willed the band into existence, who is the primary lyricist, the only member who sings and plays an instrument most of the time gets the least comments from reactors. Oh yeah she has her own signature model guitar from Zematis (after playing less than 10 yrs) •There is no "I" in BANDMAID. Well ok there is one "I" but my point is the songs are written by BandMaid. Not just Kanami Tono. The highly innovative bass and drum lines are created by Akane and MISA. There are no George songs and John&Paul songs. There are only BandMaid songs. •10 plus years with the same line up. Think about that. •More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole. •Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. They are typical of Kobato's lyrics. •Despite the fact that their LIVE videos are superior to the official studio MV"s the latter are excellent. Funny, graphic, innovative and stunningly beautiful works of art describe what you get with BandMaid's official MV's. •As close to the Beatles in terms of unique persona of the members as any group since the Monkees. MISA is quiet and drinks. Akane is happy and eats, Miku is klutzy and CUTE, Kanami is an airhead who crushes on Saiki and Saiki was the Ice Queen. But the Ice Queen has thoroughly thawed. See Yokohama's Endless Story! Their image is carefully crafted or spontaneous or both. •Many songs have catch phrases or singalong sections to engage the audience. Many songs are in English and Japanese.Most songs are full of joy as well. •They're having a ball. They enjoy performing. They enjoy the fans. They enjoy each other. •Make no mistake, this is not a regular band.

Great reaction. I loved that you appreciated the little bass part. That's a nice warm sound by Misa. Recommendations needed? First of all: If you want to know the girls then I can highly recommend the documentaries from Ohrenje. If you don't want to react to them, just watch them now. It is so much better when you are familiar with the different characters of the band members and their bond between each other. The documentaries start with Saiki (the vocalist), then Kanami (lead guitar), Akane, Misa and Miku. They are really great productions by 'Maidiac' Ohrenje with lots of information about Band Maid. Currently Ohrenje is working on a recreation of those documentary and already released the ones for Saiki and Kanami (yesterday) Song recommendations: I would recommend "Freedom" (LIVE) or "Real existence" (LIVE) - see below - choose "Real existence" if you want a hard rocking song - choose "Freedom" if you want a very catchy song with a groovy beat Others might recommend "Domination" (LIVE) which is the "first impression song" for many/most reactors! Other songs like "Bestie", "Endless Story", "Manners/Blackhole" and their instrumentals are good picks for someone who already knows some songs by Band Maid, I think. Here is a longer list: Fun performances: - "Freedom" (LIVE) ..well that's my favourite LIVE performance. So much joy on stage 😀and Akane!!! 😆 More (hard) rock: - "Real existence" (LIVE) - Really good Live Video from one of their earlier songs. A great sound mix and live performance. Love it! - "Moratorium" (LIVE) - Another one which has a very good sound mix and is hard rocking but with a 'singalong' for the crowd 😀 - ... Mellow songs: - "Daydreaming" - a wonderful song, something between a slower rock song and a ballad - "Bestie" - Their latest release. Currently quite untypical for Band Maid (all english, no maid outfit, quite mellow) but nevertheless great - ... Emotional: - "Endless Story" (LIVE from their 10th anniversary final in Yokohama) - Their final song of that concert, very emotional, at least for Saiki - "About us" (LIVE) - A song dedicated to the American fans Instrumentals: - "From now on" MV - Hard rocking instrumental - "Onset" (LIVE) - Very atmospheric intrumental - ... Special songs: - "Thrill": It's their very first music video from 2014 (a historical "gem") - "Alone" (their first own composition/production) - "Manners, Blackhole" (LIVE) ... that one is really special because you get two VERY different and great songs in one video - ... But that's now all. There are so many more songs that are equally good.

Thanks for the reaction and comments. If you like an active bassist, you’re going to love Band-Maid. Musicians frequently mention and acknowledge MISA aka barefoot assassin as one of the GOATs within the bass guitar category. Hate? (Official Live Video) is a deservedly well loved and popular recommendation by fans. I personally don’t have a favorite Band-Maid song. In my mind, all their songs go into one of two categories: I love it and I like it. My suggestion is to randomly select one of their official live videos before moving on to their MVs. You’ll quickly realize that these ladies are arguably the best live rock band on the planet.

(left to right on the stage) Misa [mee-sah] (Barefoot Assassin) - Bass Guitar Miku [mee-kuu] (Small Pigeon) - Rhythm Guitar, Vocals, Lyricist, Band Founder Akane [aah-kah-neh] (Gorilla) - Drums Saiki [sigh-kee] (Sai-Chan) - Lead Vocals Kanami [kah-nah-mee] (Mincho) - Lead Guitar, Songwriter The band calls the contrast between their cutesy maid costumes and their hard rock sound "the gap". They enjoy seeing the confused looks on people's faces when they walk on stage and the reaction when they start playing with their hard rock sound. They call their fans Masters and Princesses, which comes from the maid cafe that band founder Miku Kobato worked in when she envisioned a rock and roll group with the maid cafe image and aesthetic. Us fans mainly refer to ourselves as Maidiacs. My opinion is that Band-Maid are one of the best bands to have formed in the past 10 years, and are currently one of the best rock and roll bands on the planet. They play many genres and styles including ballads, power ballads, pop, rock, progressive rock, hard rock, punk, metal, nu metal, and everything before in-between and beyond. They also have several great instrumental songs that they use live to give their lead singer Saiki a break. I don't know what musical style that you prefer but you can't go wrong by listening to Moratorium, No God, Rinne, Onset, From Now On, Without Holding Back, Endless Story, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, and both versions (live and video) of Don't You Tell Me. They have a catalog of over one hundred great songs. If you are not fond of one then choose another because it will be different than the one before it and the next one to follow. Have fun with it!

Awesome! 😊🎉 You listened to the exact same first two songs as I did way back! Don’t stress yourself about names and such, I knew only one name at this point. However, after my third song? I was absolutely blown away. It was then that I realized just how special these Maids are. If you want to hit the trifecta? The song was “From Now On” The reason? I’m an old blues rock musician. It takes a lot for me to be overly impressed with new music. It was this song, a full instrumental, where they relied solely on musicianship and songwriting, that completely changed my entire perspective on these 5 musicians. Welcome new Princess to the world of Band Maid ❤

Band-Maid always leave us wanting more, and that's a good thing cause we never get enough! With over 120 songs to choose from, thankfully there is no lack of more excellent music to pick from, and a new album is due out this summer!

Many of us wish the Ladies would make longer songs. We'd prefer 5-6 minutes, but most radio stations won't play songs that are over 3 minutes 40 seconds. Unlike back in the 70's and early 80's where you could get 20+ minute long songs such as 2112 side 1, Green Grass and High Tides live, Thick as a Brick side 1 or 2. As for my favorite Band-Maid song? All of them. Seriously I like and enjoy ALL of their songs.

To learn more about The Maids, there are documentary videos by Orienji. One for each of them and 3 for Founder Miku. Actually, speaking of Saiki's throat surgery, she was so pleased with how her it went that Miku had it done as well. In order to suggest songs, we need to know what you like. If you want another one like this try 'Domination' LIVE. Or if you want a real Rocker try 'Real Existence' LIVE. something more Metal try 'Rinne'. Do you like anime? 'Unleash'. How about Power Pop? 'Blooming'. A sad breakup song, 'Before Yesterday'. Hate?'. A mean breakup song 'Hate?'. A soft acoustic ballad? the acoustice version of 'Puzzle' LIVE.A more upbeat acoustic song, 'Sayonakidori'. I could go on and on, but think you see where I'm going with this.

Not sure exactly where your tastes lay in music so I will give you 2 songs, The First "Don't You Tell ME!" I strongly urge you to react to Saiki's solo version while playing the piano live on stage at the Yokohama concert. Truly amazing.

@sassja Band-Maid has quite a range of songs, and they're very consistent. Asking a Band-Maid fan their favorite songs is likely going to get you the strange response that we like them all. Because that's just very typically how we tend to feel. So maybe the best way to go about this is to ask how what you'd like relative to what you've seen? Want something harder than Thrill? Softer than Choose Me? Ballads? More funky? Which way would you like to go? Check out some of the suggestions from skyrrtch below. I hope you find something you like!

Welcome Home Princess Sassja! Our favorite Maids refer to their fans as "Masters and Princesses" while a lot of their fans refer to themselves as "Maidiacs." You could literally post their songs on a wall, blindfold yourself and throw a dart at the wall and whatever it hits will be a great song. If you want something newer from Band Maid, I'd suggest "Influencer" (the official music video) or "Hate?" (The official live video) would both be great choices. If you want a little bit longer song, then the live version of "Endless Story" would be a great song to try. As a general rule, their live videos are better to watch. All their songs seem too short because you just want to listen to them play more. They're my favorite band because they're extremely talented, they write incredible songs and they're just amazing people who are humble, funny and love their fans. I'm going to recommend Daydreaming, Don't You Tell Me (the official live video), Alone and something a little different from the Maids, Bestie.
