Band Maid - "About Us" - First Reaction 

All five Maids had outstanding performance, but it was MISA who shined the most, imo!

Those two times that Saiki belts out "cries" at full tilt are incredible.

Plenty of rock bands have done their versions of ballads. But they all sound like a rock band doing a ballad. When Band Maid performs this song, it’s as if the powerful, jazz-influenced slow jam is all they do. Listen to “Rinne” and then “About Us.” I challenge anyone to name another group of musicians who could’ve made them.

I like many bands but imho bandmaid is special. Head and shoulders above due to compositional ability, live performance that is tight , humility and a sense of fun and authenticity. No other band reaches my heart as often as they do.

Several years ago, when I heard this song, it brought a tear to my eye. "About Us" is such a beautiful, heartfelt tribute from Band-Maid to their fans as a lament for being unable to perform before them due to Covid restrictions. Misa's soulful bass playing really stands out and gives the song the proper feeling it needs throughout the song. Wow!!!!! This is one of the best rock ballads I have heard in a long time. Band-Maid never disappoints!!!!!

They don’t half-ass anything. If it makes the song, or album, better they do it, even if it goes beyond their abilities they just write it and then get better so they can play it live. Always challenging each other is why they keep improving individually, and collectively, all the time.

Kanami is a genius at composing these sort of orchestral style intros. I still think that is what she will be doing post Band-Maid- Film scores etc. Miku is slowly becoming more like second vocals and second guitar with her solo intros to Kanami's solos.

MISA drops that B string at just the right moments. Kanami's calm guitar lead is like she's softly crying out to the fans. Vocals on this song throughout are emotionally weighing. Akane camped out on that crash at the end. Like so many Band-Maid songs, rhythm or melody come from any instrument or voice.

I think this track shows how truly excellent Misa is on bass with her finger style of playing. It's laid back and melodic, but also providing constant movement. She covers all the techniques in bass playing.

Great reaction. I think I listen and hear Band Maid the same way you do. Their attention to detail is overwhelming. You hit the nail on the head. In my opinion these ladies are masterclass musicians and vocalist. You put them all together and you get Band Maid- the greatest rock/hard rock band on the planet. And it only gets better from here. 🐦 In a concert held on Feb. 14th, 2020 *BAND-MAID* announced that they were going to play at *Budokan* on Feb 11th, 2021 but due to Covid the concert was canceled. In the live streaming concert *Saiki* address the fans and said how much *BAND-MAID* missed performing live to their *Masters and Princesses* and was followed up with this song that *BAND-MAID* has _maid_ for their fans. 🐦 I had tickets to see this show on Feb 11 but in the end up making up for it by seeing them in 2022 and 2023. 😊

The vocals of Miku and Saiki are unmatched. They always put the perfect harmonies and backing vocals in just the right spots. Thanks for your great insights into their songs. I believe that we are close to the same age and have listened to a lot of the same music and I can now say that Band Maid has more songs that I love more than any other band .

As much as i love their bangers, it's when they do things like this and Wonderland that I am really in awe what great musicians they are. Thanks for checking it out.

On vocals, Miku is the perfect balance for Saiki, Sometimes it sounds like they are 1 voice instead of 2.

"About Us", in the vein of other great mid-tempo Band-Maid songs like Bestie, Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Wonderland, Awkward, Start Over, Mirage, At the Drop of a Hat and Smile, is an amazing song and personal message to their fans - a direction I'm glad to see them add to their journey toward world domination. And we get to hear MISA play the vibe she so enjoys. Their beautiful DVD/BD/CD set with 100 page picture book of this incredible concert is unbelievable! To me this song feels more like it has a pulse than a beat. Voice is more prominent in the mix than usual. Really ramps up the emotion.

I love that Band-Maid takes time to write love songs to and about their fans. So humble and awesome at the same time!

40 Band Maid reactions. Normal bands would’ve expended all their creativity by now. You’ve done “Puzzle,” the bombastic, cinematic rock song. Maybe listen to it again right before you do a reaction to the acoustic version with just Kanami and Saiki on stools. (Instrumental Maid Channel) Or maybe the song that convinced me that Saiki has superhuman breath control: “I can’t live without you,” live in Washington, DC. A fancam, but surprisingly good and clear. Or another instrumental? Thanks for the time and care you put into these. Their careful work calls for careful listening. I watch a lot of reactors, hoping they catch things I’ve missed, and I’m almost always disappointed. I’m always happy to see one of yours get posted, though. Their attention to detail clearly isn’t wasted on you, and I really appreciate that you can make it more accessible to others. Miku gets overlooked a lot, but I think she really amplifies all of the other members. Whatever the song needs, she’ll lock it down, so the other members have the freedom of movement to do the flashier stuff. In an egoless band, she somehow has the least.

Smile Trilogy? I have not heard that before but it kind of fits. However, this song was written to lift the fans spirits during the covid lockdown. It is such a beautiful song and even more beautiful sentiment. Have a good one!

I am glad you did some breaking down of the instrumentals, cause every time I listen to this song, all I hear is Saiki and Miku after the first 15 seconds. Absolutely beautiful melody, harmony and vocal syncopation.

One of my favorite song from Band Maid. I love the vocals and though I don't know what it is about it seems very melancholy.

I've always felt that most of the guitar work that Kanami was doing through most of the song was like a second harmonising vocal.

Thank you for regularly reacting to BAND-MAID. I love your analysis and always look forward to it. I see that you knew about Smile Trilogy. I think there are only a few bands that write songs of appreciation and encouragement for their fans. I fell in love with BAND-MAID partly because of their great songs, of course, but also because I could feel how much they cared about their fans. When I first started listening, I wondered what was going on with this band, because there were so many masterpieces. Now I have fallen into the pigeon hole and am totally hooked. I look forward to your continued analysis of BAND-MAID.
