"About Us" is a love letter to us Maidiacs. But everything has always been about you BAND-MAID, that's why we miss you not being able to play venues :)
MISA's incredible bass line; Kanami on two guitars; Saiki's brilliant vocal with Miku doing harmonies; and Akane beating those drums for all they're worth. Miku and Kanami are the new Lennon & McCartney, total hit machines. This song was a gift to the Maidiacs.
Copy and pasted from elsewhere but.... Just before playing this song Saiki gave a heartfelt speech to the fans. Here is what she said: “We were supposed to meet you today. For the first time in a year, we thought we could meet you all, those of you who could come to see us, but we can’t meet you in the end. I’m sorry. Even though it’s not my fault. We have been having days of turmoil for about a year. In the beginning, we were very surprised because we hadn’t experienced it before, and we had no experience of not being able to meet others in person. We were sad, but we found we shouldn’t be sad in this situation. When I saw you masters and princesses on social media, you were more depressed than us, and we thought that’s terrible. We Band-Maid have been thinking about how to cheer up all of you in the last one year. We truly wanted to meet you at Nippon Budokan, but it’s impossible because of COVID, so let’s wait for the day when we can meet. And in the last one year… or in the COVID pandemic, we have become more eager to cheer you up, and we Band-Maid realized again it’s important to give our songs to you. That’s why we wrote this song for Budokan. We made the album also in the pandemic, so it might have a little similar feel, but this song is planned for Nippon Budokan, and we really want to give it to you masters and princesses now. Budokan is not our goal but just a stepping stone. We will perform at bigger venues, and we promise we will bring you there and give you even better songs, so let’s keep it up a little more. This is our present for you masters and princesses. Please listen to it.” Edit: credit to reddit user t-shinji for the translation.
It´s not an "normal" Band-Maid song, it was especially written for their fans as an love-letter, because we can´t meet them or see them live and we still support them so much, they just wanted to give LOVE back to us... Right before this song SAIKI (vocals) even held an very emotional speech about the situation right now, that they wanted to give us all the chance to see them live at their dream venue the Budokan Hall in Tokyo and it did not happen, but that they never saw this as an end of their progression, just another step forward and they are still very motivated even if these times are not that easy right now! That was also not typical, because SAIKI is normally very distant and that she was totally alone on the stage to speak to the fans was a big surprise... Nice you enjoyed so much, i hope the situation we are all in right now is ending soon! Greetings from Germany
It's ok to cry; I've listened to this song a couple hundred times and I still do. Some bands tell their fans they love them, but Band-Maid wrote a song about it. Yeah, that's touching
Most versatile and emotional band in the world. They can play anything, taking very seriously to get the bottom of your heart. Great and emotional reaction. Better times are coming.
Yes Tauri , you understood their meaning and the purpose of their song so beautifully, Thank you to you and the Band Maid girls for this gorgeous " care package" for us all.
Beautiful song and a beautiful reaction. This show was done on the date that the band was supposed to play in the largest venue that they've ever played before - a huge moment for the band. Saiki spoke before the song and mentioned that, and also that they can feel the pain of separation from their fans and live shows, and that they know that fans of the band feel it as well. And the relevance to covid and its effects on all of us. I know some fans only like hard and fast (and we all know the ladies can bring it), I hope that they never stop doing these beautiful songs, and songs that experiment with different sounds and genres. I think we have nothing to worry about though because these ladies know how to make powerful music of any type.
@@GaryHolloway-810 hey Gary, I expanded the lyrics and put them in patron40silvers discussion. I'll try to post them over in the other comments later so you can see.
@@bartyslattfast Ooh you're lucky to catch me cos i have an early start so i was just off to bed. That's great T, i hope he likes them & if they're as good as the ones i've already read then i'm looking forward to seeing your finished song in the morning :)
It is nice to see someone react the same way I did when I first saw this video. Personally it got me because being older I haven't been able to see my grandchildren in person for almost a year. But this is why I love Band Maid. They seem to have the remedy for what ever is bringing me down. They can lift my spirits with their rock. And if I need to self reflect once again they have the song that helps me. They are the most universally talented band I know of.
Thank you for your heartfelt reaction to this great song! What do you do when a group of young women reaches across thousands of miles to reach in and put their hands directly on your heart? You smile.
it really was. thank you for being so honest Tauri. I know ALL about not being able to see your loved ones...for years. Sux (excuse my language) I hope you get to see them soon, especially your sisters baby, Hang in there, like Miku and Saiki say.... "See...we're all here" Xoxoxo Stay safe
I hope you see your family as soon as you can, I lost my father a month ago to this black plague, three cousins and 10 friends, so I really hope that you are with your family as soon as possible, we maidiacs are grateful to you for provide us with this emotion always. Congratulations from Brasil.
It's that personal meaning that makes this song so special - melancholy but uplifting. And so good to see the live, timely performance. I think your reaction is what many of us felt.
"About Us" was from Band-Maid's Online Okyu-ji recorded on Feb. 11, 2021. They were supposed to play Budokan coming out of Covid lockdown, but the lockdown continued and the concert was cancelled. They rescheduled the planned concert as an online show at a smaller venue and played their show in front of a television crew in a near empty auditorium; no audience present. I just received the Blu-ray of this concert earlier this week and watched it beginning to end. I cannot say for sure but I think this is the only performance of "About Us". At a normal Band-Maid concert there's lots of audience interaction: singing along with the choruses, Miku's magic spell time, Saiki leading the audience, etc. It was a little spooky watching Band-Maid doing all their normal schtick, but breaking the fourth wall with the online audience in a silent, empty auditorium. Band-Maid produces their own backing tracks, so they included simulated audience participation as well as the usual supplemental instrumentation. Occasionally between songs, Miku would approach the edge of the stage, drop to a knee, and have a whispered conversation with the director. Just before performing "About Us", Saiki spoke directly to the camera for several minutes. Saiki's tone was deathly serious. She explained that Band-Maid was doing the online Okyu-ji to help their fans at that troubled time and that they had written "About Us" as a song of encouragement: promising that the band and their fans would make it and eventually be together again. For so many reasons, "About Us" is a singular moment in Band-Maid's history.
Ah, this song... I am crying, again. Yes the band has said it is a love letter to their fans. AND, as you said Tauri, it is song for anyone who is living under shadows; Covid, no money, loss of a loved one, hopelessness. "Just forward, just forward, onward!"
I am a cynical old guy with what many would think a hard background but these young women get through to me like no other band ever. They are so talented and creative and just all round bloody brilliant. Kanami is a genius and her creativity backed by the band's super abilities mean that their music will only develop without limit.
Right on brother. 66 years under my belt and I wonder what kind of world my kids will have to deal with. So praise to those who relight hope in our hearts.
This song is a beautiful, heart felt, love song from them, to us the fans. Love the commitment these talented ladies have to their fans. maybe it's me but, I sense that Miku is trying to keep it together towards the end.
An appropriate reaction to a beautiful performance. I know I'm 16 months late but I signed in to throw my like on the pile with all the others. Thanks for the reaction Tauri!
"About Us", in the vein of other great mid-tempo Band-Maid songs like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Wonderland, Awkward, Start Over, Mirage and Smile, is an amazing song and personal message to their fans - a direction I'm glad to see them add to their journey toward world domination. And we get to hear MISA play the vibe she so enjoys. Stretch Band-Maid... Stretch with all your might. We're behind you 100! Their new DVD/BD/CD of this incredible concert has been ordered! Thanks Tauri, for bringing "About Us" to your viewers!
Great Reaction!!! How would you have felt knowing...........? The song is a love letter from the band that they wrote to their fans. Just before singing the song Saiki talked about the struggles of the band over the past year. Here is the English translation of what she said. It gives more meaning to the song and how they felt. Saiki: We were supposed to meet you today. For the first time in a year, we thought we could meet you all, those of you who could come to see us, but we can’t meet you in the end. I’m sorry. Even though it’s not my fault. We have been having days of turmoil for about a year. This is our present for you masters and princesses. Please listen to it.
I love your reactions. Band Maid is one of the best live bands today. Just pure emotions. I got chills and a little bit sad at the first time listening. Stay good.
First of all, belated birthday wishes! Another great reaction to THE best Rock band on Earth. What a jewel of a song this is - instrumentally and vocally, especially the harmonies between Miku and Saiki, although there's also a wealth of subtle, perfect bass, drums and guitar too. It is the anthem against covid; the hope for a better future; the desire to be out there listening to live music; heartbreaking and uplifting in equal measure. As I say, a jewel.
Band-Maid killing it as always! I like that this has an almost 80s power ballad dynamic going on, but with a modern flavor and VERY current subject matter.
Master composers and a very personal song for most who listen to it. Thanks for a beautiful and heartfelt video from the band and you Tauri. Really gave some perspective.
I'm a fan of BAND-MAID in Japan. I cried for your reaction. Each person is different. However, like you, the message of this song will impress you and give you courage. I was also impressed by your honest reaction.
This is so beautiful, very loving, just them letting us know they are there for us, to encourage us to keep going forward. this is what makes them great, they wrote a song to us.. to US! They care, they really do. I tear up every time I listen to it. Thank you for reacting to this video.
Nice reaction, thank you for sharing of course. I hope all this thing is on it's way out sometime soon, I wanna see my family too. And my extended one. Its a little bit lonely at times.
I've been a fan of Band-Maid since the New Beginnings album. They have a ton of great material but this one song really hit home for me. I felt like someone out there actually understood what I was feeling and it's good to know I'm not the only one who was really impacted by this song.
Have you ever heard of the Warning? They are three sisters from Mexico. The Warning is a Power trio. Extremely talented. There’s not one bad song in their playlist. There second album is a concept album, called Queen of the murder scene. It’s one of the best albums I’ve ever heard. Play any song on that album from RU-vid and you will be amazed. One of the best live performing bands out there. Incredible energy, outstanding songwriting and all three are masters of their instruments. By the way, they all three sing . Most of their songs are in English. One as of now is in Spanish. Don’t deprive yourself of such talent. I promise you will not be sorry. The cherry on top of a reaction to this band will bring hundreds of new subscribers to your channel I promise you that. They are called the Warning army. There a force to be reckon with. So I say to you ,check them out on your own and see what you think Thank you.⚡️🤘.
