BAND-MAID / DICE, Different (Official Live Video) MUSICIAN REACTS! for J-LOD LOVE2 

I now know it’s MAIDIACS! Don’t get mad 😅 I recorded this before I released yesterday’s video and y’all told me. Hit subscribeee we got more coming this week :)

I've been saying this for ages! Band-Maid is music for musicians. They're catchy and poppy enough to appeal to the masses, but they give musicians all these interesting little touches to enjoy.

I love the history of how Band-Maid got together. Miku (rhythm guitarist) used to work in a Maid Cafe. After a failed Idol career, she decided to fuse the Maid look with hard rock, so in 2013 she started BAND-MAID. Miku found Kanami (lead guitarist) via RU-vid. Kanami had a channel where she wrote her own songs and played the guitar. Kanami, in turn, knew Akane (drummer) from having her play the drums on some of her songs. Akane then got Misa (bassist) on board, who she knew from Music school. With this, they were 4. Miku was the lead singer, with Kanami on guitar, Akane on drums, and Misa on bass. They did one gig in 2013 as a 4 piece, but afterwords decided Miku didn't have the type of voice they wanted for a hard rock band, so they did auditions for a lead singer, which is how they picked up Saiki. Bonus fact: They didn't tell Saiki about the Maid outfits, instead telling her just that they would be wearing "some cute clothes". Miku was afraid Saiki wouldn't accept to join if she knew they were going to dress up in Maid outfits. Saiki later confirmed in an interview that if they had told her beforehand about the Maid outfits, she probably wouldn't have joined lol. Good thing they kept it a secret, cause she has an amazing voice. Saiki found out about the Maid outfits literally when she arrived to perform at their first gig as a 5 piece. So, it wasn't until they picked up Saiki that Miku picked up a guitar for the first time and started learning (from Kanami) how to be the band's rhythm guitarist and backup vocals. If you watch their first ever music video, Thrill, from 2014, you can see Miku just holds the guitar and doesn't play it (or even try to mimic playing it) because at that time she really still didn't know how.

Maid’s Day is celebrated on May 10th due to the fact that the alternate reading for 10 (do) works to create the word “May-do” which sounds just like the word “Maid“ in Japanese. The Japanese love to make a play on words, just ask the hato (pigeon) in the band. :)

Miku's guitar is her very own signature model called the "Flappy Pigeon" by Zemaitis. Cool video of her at the factory, they even put her to work.

That bass tone makes me think MISA backed her Peterbilt up to the backstage door and said "C'mon ladies, we've got 810 barrels of "WhupAss" and we don't want to be late.

I caught your first video as it's a great fascination of mine to watch folks react to BM for the first time. Another great fascination of mine is watching people get converted into a Maidiac. You haven't even scratched the surface of the awesome catalog BM has. Can't wait to see their other songs. 110+ songs now I believe.

with Band Maid you should ALWAYS pay attention to the bass. Even on their simplest/poppiest songs, Misa is always doing amazing things.

They do much faster than 160 bpm. Just saying ... "Black Hole". But watch it with "Manners" (funky). Black Hole is as about as close as they get to thrash/speed metal.

And we are all MAIDIACS diving down the Pigeon hole :)

Dice is one of the few of their songs that I feel is better in the MV because Kanami's guitar is heavier and much to the forefront. Oh and Miku's pretty guitar is her signature Zemaitis "Flappy Pigeon"

Kanami, the lead guitarist, has come up with an incredible number of different awesome riffs… so it’s no wonder that’s the first thing you mentioned. She’s just a riff machine!

This is the worlds best soup ever ! See now you have to watch the double video of Manners/Blackhole, Blackhole the fastest at 220 bpm. Although when Kanami found out from Herman Li that Dragonforce have a song at 235bpm she looked very thoughtful, you have to feel sorry for Akane ! because you know Kanami will not want to be beaten !

Basically every musician reacting to BM: "I thought I knew where they were gonna go... Nope, they did something completely different" :D subverting expectations is their modus operandi. Something pretty funny is that there's quite a few BM songs where, at the end of the song - you realize, you basically just heard 3 different songs that morphed into one, and *somehow* it worked.

Great reaction ! Its the little things that make you comeback to the songs and wonder what else you missed. And at the end of the song and during a bit too short solos they create this kind of longing for mooore ;-)

I always suggest the tv interviews to learn the names, because they're really funny and you learn the basic personalities as well. Search on YT for "Band-Maid Gold Rush interview" (be aware that a few things in the English subtitles may be a bit off from the intended meanings - really this applies to any unofficial translation). Great reaction! I can tell from what you're noticing that they're a good match for you. EDIT: In fact I think you may be one for whom holding off and only hearing new songs for reactions could be frustrating, so here's a suggestion: Because Band-Maid never stops evolving and improving, their earliest material using outside songwriters often gets overlooked, but it's quite good. You can safely listen to all of their first record, _Maid In Japan_ because there are no MVs for it. This will also give you an origin point so you can see how they have developed and changed.

iv never noticed drums in songs to be honest until i found Band Maid. Akane drums if what made me interesting in them it is so simple but unique full of changes fills triplets always fun and stands out

Just subbed. Very intelligent with your break down of a song. Really appreciate that…Band Maid is easily the best hard rock band out right now. Very diverse, skilled…..best songs IMO…Blooming, Onset (live), newest single Sense (plus the 2 “B” sides on it)…..it’s all good to be honest. You’re going to love them even more with every song you hear…..for the best balled you’ve ever heard “Daydreaming”. GL.

If you think 'Different' is fast you should check out 'Rinne' or 'Black Hole'. But you need a really good pair of Headphones to get everything from the Bass & Drums.

Akane is my favorite drummer, I have sweet spot for drummers, but bandmaid music is end result of the ultimate teamwork. Every band member adds a lot to their music. It's like mixing the right ingredients, just right amount, cooked just right, with chef's unique touch leaving the irresistible after-taste, right? The difference is that it's 5 of them make one brain as well as being the ingredients themselves.

OMG I discivered new heights today. Guitar in Onset??? has me in goosebumps. Its instrumental but worth a listen. Nice job again BTW.

Different is an Anime intro song. I remember you mentioned you thought one of their songs was one. This is the intro from Log Horizon.

Nice reaction, you just yourself a subscriber! The other maidiacs will provide you with excellent live video suggestions, so I will do it a bit differently. I notice you like it when bands are unpredictable, so I made a list of Band-Maid doing weird shit (in a good way): Giovanni - Band-Maid doing prog. A fan favorite among those who like to be challenged. Corallium - Starts with RnB and then it does something completely different, like the entire song. Awkward - It sounds like a ballad, but then they put in things which has no business in a ballad. One and only - Straight rock song except for random heavy chugging and unexpected jazzy parts. Why why why - I like the description controlled chaos.

Thanks Jules. You're hitting all nails on the head. The best rhythm section in Rock bar none. Kanami is the riff meister you need for your endless pot of musical soup. All vocals and harmonies are beyond reproach. Now try the Manners/Black Hole live. Manners is classic groove rock and Black Hole is melodic chaos at 220bpm. You'll think it's impossible. But BAND-MAID pulls it off because they are Awesome. Peace.

10 days and counting for a potential surprise from them. Hoping for an Akane Industrial DJ release, Po! They have "movements" in their compositions, like the classical music training that they've had since 4 or so.

Band Maid has talent off the scale. They are the ultimate rock band BUT so much more. They have their own genre; lead guitar/composer Kanami is writing ever more complex and melodic material which the others are talented enough to produce in epic performances. Try the acoustic version of Puzzle to see the breadth of their abilities.

There's no video for it, but you'll really dig their song Giovanni. I have a feeling...

Great reaction! 🤘😎🤘"Dice" was one of the videos that cemented me as a fan. The first time I heard "Different" my brain went WTF just happened. A much more complicated song than I was used too. I wasn't sure I liked it at first, it was so overwhelming and the opening riff sounded really odd to my unsophisticated ears. After a couple of listens my brain started sorting our what was going on and I love "Different" now. It primed me for their latest album "Unseen World" which is a masterpiece. Looking forward to more reactions!

"Dice" is one of the songs that has a great music video, worth checking out. Other songs that, IMO, have really good music videos are; * Blooming * Alone (The first song they wrote entirely by themselves! the beginning of their creative freedom) * Choose Me * Daydreaming (rock ballad-ish) * Sense * Warning! * Manners (quite a defining song for them) * Last but not least; Thrill (Their first "hit" song. Old and very different from current BM, but it's nice to see where they came from.) Basically, for everything else live is great. I mean, live is great for these songs too, but I'm just pointing out songs that have particularly great 1st-reaction-worthy music videos :)

What you are finding out about Band Maid is that they do not have a cut and paste verse,bridge, and chorus formula. They will inevitably follow the chords but will change their picking and rhythm and throw in pre or post chorus. These ladies do things that other bands would not dream of doing. They are a breath of fresh air from scowling ugly guys dressed in black that show us everything that they know in the first 20 seconds. They actually smile and look like they actually like each other. Also they are outstanding musicians. There are better shredders, but Band Maid just make better musical choices. I ain't gonna lie, they are not hard to look at.😉

Okay brother you got a new subscriber in me, I appreciate your respectful music based approach to this amazing band, unlike a recent group of middle aged male reactors carrying on like giggling teenagers focussed on the band sexuality, are Band Maid stunning in looks, fark yeah but that's neither here nor there, it's their stunning talent, song crafting, technicality, band chemistry, respect for their fans and capacity to have some bloody fun that is of importance. You'll find a lot of current and ex-musos who are Madiacs along with a bunch of other Madiacs who are just as equally addicted to the music and personalities that constitute Band Maid. BM is 100% class and exploring their songs can be like getting musically king hit while having your face and heart melting at the same time. Yeah these streamed live tracks are a fill for live while touring not possible. Their US tour in Sept is selling out fast and getting moved to bigger venues. But live audience videos , and there are heap, are the way to see them. Domination, Freedom and Real Existence are all killer. The bassist is Misa and an amazing player. band Maid never do a verse or bridge/pre-chorus the same way, and also treat choruses differently too. Akane is always is always changing up the beats under your feet and makes the tracks explode. That's why I call her, The Detonator. Domination live 2020 is off the hook.

I’ve already gave you a few songs from their immense repertoire. Others have their own lists of favourites, and it is never the same. You may also listen Rinne for fast metal sound, Black Hkle for insane speed. Daydreaming for a beautiful rock ballad. Puzzle for a complex composition. No Go for controlled chaos. Anemone for bluesy solo. Take me higher for pure hard rock. Blooming for magnificent solos. Don’t tell me, live version, for guitar battle. And many more. People love Freezer, one of the best. Matchless gum and Unfair game. Some put Bubble on the top. And of course I missed other gems. But these are my top ten at the moment. It used to be very different six months ago. And year ago and so on. And it will change in next six months.

Domination, Freedom, Dice are simple, yet cool songs. Musicians on YT more appreciate Blooming, No God, Hibana, Corallium, Anemone, Daydreaming. First four are controlled chaos. That’s Band Maid!

These were great performances as always by the ladies, but to me, the sound from this online gig just doesn't do justice to what was actually being played. If you truly did like the songs, and aren't simply doing these for RU-vid algorithm view/click stats like so many other fake "reaction" channels, I suggest listening to Band-Maid's official MV's of these two songs. Hell, you really should do comparos between all of their MV's and then the live versions, to not miss anything, lol.

Some will say the music video is better but this is another interesting pairing with "Black Hole" which is definitely not a groovy song.

MISA!!! MISA!!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃 90% of the Live versions are better but this Maidiac likes to MV version of Dice better.

I'd say the bridge starts with a solo just like you hopes, but it's a rhytmic vocals solo, not an instrument 🤘

For me, anyway, it's very difficult to watch reaction videos where the talking volume is 2-3 times louder than the music 🤷🏽‍♂️.

This a online show, I really don't like the mixing if compared to the DVD concert mixing.
