They're monsters live, they recently did a 33 song set, nearly 4 hours in Yokohoma Japan( you can still buy the live stream of this). I saw in person in Boston last fall OCT 2022, I have to say one of the best live performances I've seen and I can't tell you how many bands I've seen live, have to say over 100...

The band was founded by Miku Kobato, the rhythm guitar/second vocals. She was in a failed idol band then worked at the maid Cafe as a day job. The band initially had songs written for them by the label. Their first album "Maid in Japan" was essentially a pop-punk sounding album. They began changing their sound with the next release "Brand New Maid," which took on a harder edge. The band didn't take over songwriting until their 4th album. And you did it the right way: studio version then live version. They way you can hear what the song is "supposed" to sound like, then with the live embellishments.

Great reaction to both versions of "Domination". Now, you can explore the entirety of their discography (over 120 songs) in order, I suggest you react to the more recent video of their one-hour performance at the Lollapalooza music festival this summer 2023 in Chicago. They were the first J-Rock band invited to perform at the festival in 13 years. They tore it up!!!!! There is a two-song clip from the performance that has gone VIRAL on RU-vid and the internet. The two songs "Dice/Hate?" is amazing. I won't spoil the pleasure of you viewing and reacting to it for the first time, but it will be worth your time.

Suggestions? The music video for *"Dice,"* also from the 2018 album "World Domination," and the recent performance of it from Lollapalooza 2023 (with an added bonus *"Hate?"* from the 2022 extended play "Unleash"). Newer music videos would include *"Blooming"* from the 2019 album "Conqueror," and *"Manners"* from the 2021 album "Unseen World." Their original sound was very pop-punk. They were quite heavy from the start off. Only Miku the band founder had been an idol for a short time, it didn't suit her so she left to form Band-Maid. Here's an intro to the ladies: Miku Kobato "Little Pigeon" - band founder - rhythm guitar and second vocals. Main lyricist. Claims to be an 810 year old pigeon and makes pigeon noises when she speaks. Po! Very good at poker, into horses - betting on them and eating them. Very clumsy, may fall into ditches. The heart and soul of the band. Saiki Atsumi "The Ice Queen" - Lead vocalist and frontwoman. The youngest member at 29. Into train spotting and collecting trainers (sports shoes). Very girly, into doing her nails and is a fashion icon. Really into Baseball and the Hanshin Tigers. Don't mess with her you will lose. But she has a heart of gold and a killer dry sense of humour. Recently started writing lyrics. Has final say on songs. Kanami Tono - "Kanamincho" or usually just "Mincho" for short. Lead guitar and an absolute genius songwriter. Total riff machine. Has two personas. Normally a tiny cute shy very polite lady who seems very innocent (the band have to explain dirty jokes to her). Until she puts on her guitar. As the band say "then she gets quite violent" - she turns into the shredding rock star she is. Takes guitar off, back to the little girl. Likes cake, coffee and is totally infatuated by Saiki. She adores Saiki very much, to everyone's amusement. Akane Hirose - "The Gorilla" on Drums. Seems to be the sane member of the band, but is actually the band clown. Has an enormous appetite, seen eating in a lot of MV's. Eats a lot of bananas including on stage, hence the nickname. But she is terrible at actual cooking. Usually has a big grin on her face while drumming manically, Akane was also a DJ (under the name DJ Achi) and likes dancing and goofing with MISA. MISA (all caps, no last name) "The Barefoot Assassin" on bass. An absolute bass prodigy, MISA is very shy onstage (a total clown offstage with Akane). Nickname comes from the fact she plays barefoot and looks like an assassin. Because of shyness often drinks onstage, you can often spot a bottle of Jim Beam on her amp. She drinks it neat. Lately drinking more beer than whiskey though, good girl. Doesn't say much, but when she does it's usually totally hilarious! At a lot of concerts you will hear the fans chanting MISA! MISA! MISA! which has become a slogan.

There's a few videos someone made bout how each member & how they joined the band Been fortunate enough to see them play live twice in the past 2 years. Played for bout 2 hours each time! By far the best 2 concerts I've been to! Still suggesting these Band Maid songs: Dice, Manners, Bubble, Blooming, Puzzle (live) & No God (live) 😎

During their concerts the ladies like to go up Akane and make faces at her to get her to laugh.

I’m first! 🏆 “Domination,” the official LIVE, has become something of a gateway video. The mix is inferior, but the performance is off the charts. An extended, rearranged version of the official music video. “World Domination” was the 2018 breakout hit album for the Maids that came with new outfits, a new band logo, and a world tour. The phrase is also the answer Miku gives when anyone asks her “what’s next for Band Maid.” The Maids have no egos and if they solo, it’s in support of the song and never to overshadow their fellow members. The only drum feature I’ve seen is in the official live for “Freedom.”

Originally Band-Maid was going to be a pop rock band with Miku (rythm guitar, backup vocals) as lead singer. They decided to go hard rock and get Saiki as lead singer. Miku was taught guitar by Kanami (lead guitar). Miku didn't know guitar at all then. Miku is the only one with Idol training she was in an Idol Group then worked in a Maid Cafe. She pitched the idea to a music producer. It probably helped that she is a gorgeous woman. I think Akane (drummer) was the first to join Miku and brought the rest from her music school. There is nothing wrong with Japanese pop rock. There are some bangers. Hitohira no Hanabira by Stereopony is a great song. Or dozens of pop rock Vocaloids like Senbonzakura or Double Lariat. I honestly feel bad for anyone that hasn't heard Senbonzakura or Double Lariat.

Akane (drums) is amazing. I kid you not. After listening to B-M so long, I can't listen to other hard rock bands because I get bored with the songs. It's the rhythm section. This band has a really special rhythm section. Misa (bass) is my favorite rock bassist bar none. She is supremely fabulous. Kanami (lead g) is a genius. She composes all their music. Miku (rhy g) is a genius lyrist of the band. Saiki (v) is absolutely great singer and fantastic on stage. She is also gorgeous. You will not be able to take your eyes off her. You will know when you see them live.

Next reaction has to be them slaughtering Lopalooza at lunchtime. Find "bandmaid dice, hate? Lopalooza" The rolling stone reviewer basically said "OK guys after that we all go home now"!

Music is truly a universal language, isn't it? I believe this song perfectly embodies that. While I understand a bit of Japanese, I can't quite catch what vocalist Saiki is saying, and someone mentioned that the English subtitles might not be entirely accurate. Nevertheless, this live video captivates me, you, and people worldwide. They are truly amazing. ✨🥰🤘

yep, since the very beginning their mantra has been World Domination thru their music, and if you continue on with them you will discover the band founder "Miku" (red rose on headdress) is called the small pidgeon, so you will be going down a pidgeon hole, no rabbits here

For the Art Director in you, I'll suggest the mv for "Daydreaming" (it's dreamy. GREAT song too). For the drummer in you, I'll suggest the mv for "Secret My Lips". I'm also a former drummer and it's one of my favorite Akane songs.) The only problem with reacting to "Secret My Lips" is you HAVE to react to "Secret Maiko Lips" in the same reaction video (It's THE LAW! 🤣) The cool thing about also reacting to "Secret Maiko Lips" (which is by Band-Maid's not-at-all-evil alter ego band called Band Maiko) is that video will satisfy both the Art Director AND the drummer in you. Akane- Drums, has been excellent from there earliest days when their record label wanted them to play Jpop.They gradually turned it into Pop/punk then into full blown rock. The earliest hint of this was in their song Thrill.

There's not many that have a regular MV with sub as well as live. I think Sense, Dice, Different, Manners, Warning, Real Existence. Ok I take that back the have a lot!! Not all have subs though.

Check again, Domination is pre-pandemic. Plau, that was a studio OMV. Even the LIVE at Line Cube Shibuya is pre-lockdown. But, if you want a full drum solo, Akane is like Ringo, there is only one! It's in the middle of 'Freedom' LIVE from this same show! Questions for you? Yeah, I have one. I know why Miku is a pigeon, why are you a penguin?

If you can, id recommend highly to do this order mv then live version because like this one, they will throw in re-arrangements of songs in the live versions, which you wont notice without knowing the studio version Also since you played drums, Black Hole is my recommendation for a song with great drums

Well penguin before that thrill video they where on the verge of failing . But when they went to film the thrill video . They were worried they disused it and said let go do thrill only go harder . The rest is history .

Like you said, thrill to start, domination middle. do Shambles for most recent. Also go see them live, sell a kidney if you have to.. I've seen them 30 times between October 2022 and October 2023, I'm having post Band-Maid depression and can't wait to see them again.

I always find it kind of ironic that the Band Maid anthem music video has been released with the volume very low. It's like some jerk told them to turn it down.

The studio track is great but not even a top 30 track from them imho. The live version however is transformative and it becomes clear why it is a staple of all their shows. If you decide to do Play, you can skip the studio track or watch the live version twice as it is also highly transformative. Again, not even a top 40 studio track, probably not even top 50 or top 60, but live is again, a staple of their shows for a reason. Cheers

Hard to believe that song came out five years ago and live vid was shot Nov 2019, I think. The record company sure wanted them to be pop. However, even the walk on music they recorded for themselves and used as far back as 2015 was way heavier than anything on the albums.

Studio version and live version- to me, both excellent. tho the live version is a bit more excellent ;) I've watched a lot of reactions to Band-Maid and the one thing you all have in common is that you're all smiling happily when they are playing. As am I (but you can't see that :)

Yes, the audio of the MV is terrible. IMO, the worst of any Band-Maid MV. It's a great song that they play at almost every concert and obviously the live version is infinitely better (even if Kanami's guitar is a little low in the mix). It's the rhythm guitarist/second vocalist Miku Kobato who founded the band. She previously worked at two maid cafes and was also in an idol trio for about a year prior to forming Band-Maid. She was originally the sole lead vocalist and did not play guitar at all. She didn't think her voice was quite right for most of their music, so they brought in lead vocalist Saiki to expand their sound. Miku then started playing guitar, although it was originally more or less a prop to look cool as she had never played before. Under the tutelage of lead guitarist Kanami, Miku would eventually become the excellent guitarist she is today.
