The most prevalent take on the video (the one I subscribe to) is about introversion and the pressure Tati feels writing. At the beginning she is running home, where she finds peace in solitude. as the song progresses the band is closing in on her for her contribution to the songs (illustrated by the red box and the sand art). Eventually she gets angry and lashes out at the band (shooting at them) which has no effect on them. Then she calms down some and delivers the lyrics (throws sand from the mandala at them) and they go away, once again leaving her in peace.

Tatiana is an introvert. In fact the original title of the song was going to be "Introvert" but then her husband told her there is an English word which means the same thing. She liked it so she used that title instead. The song is also related to her procrastinating about writing lyrics for the album after the music was done and the band pressuring her to complete them.

The lyric “I never asked to be here, I hated that from the beginning” the “here” refers to being the person responsible for writing Jinjer’s lyrics. She goes on “…turning mole hills into mountains, I feel the pressure building.” The “mole hills” being her poetry, her words; the “mountain” being a hit record. She hates the pressure that comes with this responsibility. But the reality is that she excels at it.

Excellent reaction! You get the main lyrical points from the other commenters; I'd just add that there's a double entendre with Tatiana's shyness outside the band scenario, outside the "wall" in the chaotic world. I think the pandemic played into that heavily, thus "this life is a lockdown." I think only Rush had greater facility with making shifting time signatures and odd meters sound natural. This song shifts between 5/8, 6/8, 3/4 just for starters, but you barely note the changes. It's beautiful.

Tatiana is a notorious procrastinator when it comes to writing lyrics. She is also an introvert and despite her dynamic stage presence live and her being a really nice person to meet, she prefers staying with her small circle of friends and family. The song lyrics explore that, the band members' stress and frustrations with getting her to write and her stress and frustration at feeling pressured by the band. Great reaction, BTW.

I think this is my favorite Jinjer song. The way it progresses is just masterful, especially when the sound really opens up around 3:48 or so. That part always gets me. I also like the video in how the two wolf/dog paintings represent her emotional state. They're both calm and still when she's by herself, but once the outside world starts to creep in and disturb Tatiana's solitude, she starts to lose her control and starts to lash out and the eyes on the black dog start to blaze as it barks. The editing in the videos gets quicker, the camera gets shakier, the roar comes out, and the metaphorical bullets start to fly. Then at 8:45, Tatiana looks at the paintings and sees the black dog going crazy; I believe this represents Tatiana "seeing herself" and realizing that she's overreacting, behaving badly, being silly, however you want to put it, and that's when she sinks to her knees and acquiesces giving Vlad, Eugene, and Roman what they want and what the band needs, the lyrics, as represented by her hurling the sand at them and them disappearing. Left alone, Tatiana calms down and the dogs in the pictures become still again. Thanks for taking another look and listen to Jinjer. I love them!

Another great reaction! As for the meaning of the lyrics, Tati is the main songwriter, although Eugene does contribute sometimes. Tati writes a lot about her personal feelings, life, and the world around her as it relates to her, the band, and people. She is also a self-proclaimed introvert, which may seem odd for someone as amazingly talented who spends her life in front of huge crowds, and does interview after interview. She has always loved singing and performing, but really has not sought fame. Jinjer's songwriting process is a bit different than many or even most bands in that Vlad (Drummer) composes the music with Eugene (Bassist) and Roman (Guitarist), and then they give the demos of the musical compositions to Tati for her to write the lyrics. The lyric writing process for Tati is one she admits to procrastinating, and she really seems to work best under pressure and deadlines. However, this does not mesh well with her introvert nature, because she always feels the pressure to produce the song lyrics whether that be internalized pressure or pressure from the other band members. In the video for Wallflowers, the box represents the words and phrases she constantly collects for future use. The sand art (sand and instruments are in that red box) and the sand art portrait she is creating in the video are representative of the lyrics for a song and/or album. So as she's creating her art, the lyrics, you see clips of Roman, Eugene, and Vlad and she looks over her shoulder at them and the music gets a little more tense and she has a more tense look on her face. As an introvert, she really NEEDS her alone time to be able "recharge her batteries" as she says in the song, so having anyone/anything interrupting that alone/creative time causes her anxiety and stress. As the video continues you see the band members at the door and she EXPLODES into her famous growls and screams. Then they are inside the house and she just can't take it anymore. She gets the guns and tries to stop the noise and outside world from intruding on her recharge time but no matter how many times she shoots you notice the bullets just bounce off them. Then she goes to the beautiful sand art and scoops it all together and throws it at them and they disappear. She has delivered to them her art, the lyrics to the music, and they are appeased and leave her to her "down time." As for the wolves on the wall, the black one representing her time out in the world and the white one representing her "me time." As the world starts to come into her space you see the black wolve getting more aggressive and its eyes turning red, that's the stress and anxiety coming into her "space" and the white wolf appears to back down somewhat timidly. Once the lyrics are delivered you see them both back to being calm and the red eyes are gone, her personal "balance" has been restored. That's also why the white wolf is a little crooked at the beginning of the video, it is foreshadowing the upcoming lack of balance she is soon to face in her life as an introvert. The lyrics to virtually all of Jinjer's music is very poetic and tells a story, some stories are much more "deep" like Wallflower, and some not quite as deep, but they are all stylistically are poetically written stories. Unfortunately too many people are focused solely on Tati's amazing voice and vocal range and the phenomenal composition and musicianship of the band that they don't take the time to learn the lyrics or to try and understand them. Something Tati has said in more than one interview I've seen is that she really likes and enjoys it when an audience knows the lyrics to their songs, she is telling a story, often personal and wants to share it with them.

No need for theories; Jinjer in general, and Tatiana in particular, are very explicit about what this song and video mean. Their writing method is that the boys compose the songs and put together demo tapes to send to Tatiana. She is famously an introvert and a procrastinator (both self-described), and inevitably waits until deadlines are looming and the boys have to harry and hound her for the lyrics and melodies so they can finish polishing the songs for recording and touring. Of course, Tatiana is a _brilliant_ lyricist, and always writes in multilayered poetry, so to a degree this is an anthem for introverts in general... but the _video_ specifically calls out her own journey in the lead-up to an album. The box is her creativity, which she's guarding preciously... note the big mischievous grin on her face when Eugene and Vlad are chasing her and tear her sleeve. That, I believe, is indicative of her acting more hurt than she is, to get them to back off so she can get more time. But eventually the deadlines loom, the booking for the studio is near, and they have to come closer and closer, pounding on the door of her fortress, where she's trying to nurture her inner peace and creativity. The Tibetan sand art I think is a direct representation of that fragile creative energy, her 'muse'. Finally, the deadline arrives. Even her own psyche can no longer withstand the pressure, and so the band, the personification of that pressure, teleports into her house when she's expecting them to come barging in through the front door. They side-stepped her defenses in a way, because she does care about them and love playing with them... but she gives one last frantic push, throwing barbs (presumably harsh words) in the form of the bullets from the guns... but the boys know what's up, and they just dodge and soak the damage, knowing she'll come through. So finally, desperate, with no other way to make the pressure, the demands of the world (the wolf at the door), and the need for the finishing components of their songs coming from her band-mates, she gathers up her muse, the sand art, and sacrifices it, throwing her creativity at the band to make them go away until the next publishing and touring cycle. The two wolves, one black, one white, go to a common theme in all Jinjer music: the duality she feels inside. For now, with the sanctuary sacrificed, the muse and creativity hurled at the band in accusatory desperation, the white wolf seems to win, and she can be at peace. Except... then the black wolf's frame shifts off-kilter at the very end, portending the next round to come.

Hey Bob. Title track to the most recent album. I not positive, but I think this song has something to do with Tati being a terrible procrastinator. The guys write the music for the songs and then hand it over to Tati for the lyrics. She tends to procrastinate, but at some point, they need them to record. She gets stressed and lashes out ( the bullets start flying), but they are used to her process (notice they just shrug off the bullets and keep playing). Finally, she just gives them what she has, and all is good.

It was what goes on in Tati's mind. She's said she's a procrastinator and likes being in her own world doing her own thing. She's not even involved when her band makes the music. But once they're done it becomes her turn to come up with vocals and lyrics and then get ready to tour and as much as she likes all that, it's hard to get motivated. So the guys come for her asking for her parts and won't let up until she delivers. Even to the point when she gets pissed off and annoyed with her boys and starts yelling at them. (The firing of verbal bullets at them to no affect). She only gets her peace and quiet back once she finally delivers on her end. (Throwing her art at the guys so they'll leave her be). This video and the song lyrics are actually quite literal as far as what Tati goes through between writing albums in her own head.

In the video, there's a direct correlation to the pressure she felt for procrastinating lyric writing for the album to the last second. Her bandmates pursue her, pressure her. The bullets (sharp words) at them do nothing, but then she sees the wolves on the wall, realizes her defensive anger and her over-reaction in a situation she created ("turning mole hills into mountains"), and throws "her art" (metaphor for the lyrics they want) at the band and they go away. The wolf story (below) is critical to understanding her internal conflicts as displayed by the wolf art. White Wolf, Black Wolf: A Cherokee Story Inside you lives a wolf of white- of patience, peace and love. He is forgiveness, hope and light; a blessing from above. This wolf of white the world will see through all the good he brings to thee. _____This wolf of white, _____this wolf of white, his gifts will set your spirit free. A wolf of black, as dark as night lives next to him inside. He’s hatred, rage, cruelty, fright, intolerance and pride. This wolf of black the world will see through evil actions, evil deeds. _____This wolf of black, _____this wolf of black, his teeth will make your spirit bleed. Within your soul, the two wolves fight to see which one will give directions and will win the right to show you how to live. Which one will win the fight? We need to pay attention; pay close heed! _____Which one will win? _____Which one will win depends upon which one we feed.

I think it's important to distinguish betwen the video and the song itself: yes, the video is about her procrastinating "delivering" the lyrics to the songs the band has given her, true. That whole "I'm mad at the band for forcing me to come up with lyrics" spiel works for the video. But that's only half of the story, because the song itself is an introvert anthem, and, let's face it, also about being close to depression: "The outside is hostile, and the waves hit me hard, so I climb into my shell to lick my wounds again" and "Biting my tongue in fear of saying something wrong, my circle of friends is getting emptier, and I don't even wish for new ones", "I gotta home, my batteries are low, this life is a lockdown". That's the main reason why I don't like people discussing the video and the song as "equals". The song itself goes deeper than the video.

I think some of the comments on the video have conflated the meaning of the song itself and of the video more than is warranted. Tatiana has said that the *song* is about being an introvert and feeling the pressure of social expectation vs the freedom of time to oneself. The *video* is - as many have commented - about Tatiana procrastinating about lyrics and the stress she feels from this. The two are thematically related, but not the same.
