The thing that blows me away so much about this one is the way they are able to not just recreate the bass/percussion, but they match the vocal styles of the various singers they're covering. Mind-bending.
I just listened to Scott in an interview say that they literally sang together everyday for a year when they were starting to learn each other’s voices inside and out. They are so wonderful
"NO Do not be Over!" LOL. Too funny. I feel the same way. I want an album with every one of these songs in their entirety! Please react to Royals. Mitch rocks in it!
I'm so glad you mentioned the way they sing 'clearly' - I've noticed I can always hear the words of the song, which is not something I can say for many other singers! And yes, you are not the first to get to the end of this song and go 'wait, what? It's over? - No, I want more!'... great reaction.
Thanks Tania! Yes their diction on their lyrics is so clear I never have trouble understanding them. It really shows how much skill they truly have over their instruments. Thanks!
Loved your comments on this great medley. I love that they used tech to give honor to the Cher song, when they normally would not even come close to doing so.
Love your reactions. I usually get frustrated with most reactors because they over-react with mindless, useless chatter. But you do it just right. Keep it comin'. 👍👍👍
I think you might like to check out some of their "Evolution" videos. Maybe start with their Evolution of Michael Jackson? They're similar to this in that it's a medley, done in kind of the same style, but the video is just them in front of a microphone. It's all recorded in one take, with minimal production to it. It's impressive watching them switch gears like that so many times in real time.
The Pentatonix "trio" of Scott, Mitch and Kirstie starting doing pop medleys in high school and one of PTX's special skills is doing medleys / mashups seamlessly. The addition of stellar vocal percussionists Matt (formerly Avi) and Kevin makes it even better by providing rock-solid rhythmic support. I agree with other suggestions of watching their "Evolution of..." videos. They are filmed live and it is easier to see who is doing what. The first one they did is "Evolution of Music".
The base is Matt Sallee, (for some reason, it seems to be pronounced as if it were sul-lee). Avi picked him as his replacement, and it was a great choice. He's a classically trained singer, a graduate of the Berkeley School of Music in Boston, and, as you can see in the short section in which he was the lead, he has a lovely voice, as well as the ability to bang out the deep base lines. His personality is more congruent with the group, as well, and while he may never produce the thundering base bombs of Avi's basso profundo, he has grown into a wonderful, harmonious addition to the group.
Sound of silence is another great ptx cover. It made me laugh when you said you could listen to this all day, because I’m embarrassed to say how many times I start listening to their videos and, boom, three hours have gone by, lol.
Great reaction! Thank you! Kevin's beat boxing is amaaaaazing through all of these, but when he goes off during "Gonna Make You Sweat" it takes me 10 minutes to scoop my jaw up off the floor. And I agree it seems effortless, but after watching The Recording of Evergreen and seeing how much attention they give to the smallest details during their process, I have a whole new respect for them and the work that goes into giving us that "effortless" end product.
They are always flawless. Matt who replaced Avi is just pure talent period. If you want to hear him a little more try Sound of Silence or Your a mean one Mr. Grinch. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.
They are so good they can reach right out and grab your heart, attention, the feelings pent up inside you and make it real! Right through the screen!!! They are spot on! Every breath, every note is intended and unique. What amazes me is they do it so naturally! In one video, Carol of the Bells, live version of Christmas Under the Stars concert, it doesn't seem like Mitch even breathes. You should check that out. And another live performance on Independence Day Celebration, they sing Seasons Of Love. The end is surprising! Thanks for reacting. Looking forward to more.
This was recorded in the pandemic. They where at the studio different days. Amazing how they can harmonice this well. It was the same with their medly Home
Their videos are always great but they are even better live. Would enjoy you reacting to their PopSpring Performance 2016 from Japan. 3 original songs and Evolution of Michael Jackson. An awesome performance.
@@bobcieslinski The full 15 minute 4 song performance is worth a reaction. The live Michael Jackson performance is as good or better than the original video.
Haha! Every single reactor I've watched do this video says the EXACT same thing at the end, "No! It can't be over yet!" lol This is a fantastic medley. Thanks for the reaction, Bob. FYI: Our lovely lady Kirstin and her S.O announced on social media they are going to have a little baby girl. Yay! 💚💚
I am feeling that way about all of their music. I do t want it to end. Such pure fun and joy. Awww that’s awesome news for them. Thanks for sharing and a big congratulations to them.
Matt, the new bass, has a very smooth chocolaty voice. They auto tuned because the original song was auto tuned. I have seen 30 reactors react to this video and you are the first one who has noticed how much Mitch sounds like Cher. I noticed it right away. THANK YOU!!! Very observant. And the drop, too. Very few reactors have commented on the Matt/Kevin drop at the beginning of the video. Great powers of observation. Try out their "Evolution of...." videos. There is Music, Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Rihanna, and Ariana Grande with the hits one after another. It's a great ride. You are right about hearing their words clearly, but I think part of it is also there are no instruments to overshadow the lyrics. That helps a lot.
Thanks for the kind words Celia! Man it was so easy to hear how much Mitch sounded like Cher. He is so talented! Also I thought thr drop was so good it just really stood out. Thanks for thr comments and suggestions Celia!
This is one of two videos that IMO best show off the amazing combo of baseline and beatbox that Pentatonix has always done so beautifully. Daft Punk definitely demonstrates this amazing mix of talent from the Avi years, while the 90's Dance Medley is a wonderful example of the same magical mix occurring with Matt. And of course, Kevin is brilliant in both examples. So glad you reacted to this masterpiece!
Great reaction! Really enjoyed it. This is one of my favorite medleys they have done (along with the Michael Jackson and Arianna Grande ones). Towards the end of this one, they used auto tune, which they typically don’t. But they used it as an homage to Cher to reproduce that iconic ‘Cher effect’.
I wouldn't say it is effortless, I would more likely say it is clear to see they like what they are doing they obviosly having fun doing it and that's why it is even more fun to watch it. Of course that can make it seem like they don't have to put a lot of effort in their videos but I'm pretty sure they are still quite difficult to make.
Hello Bob, So glad to see that you are continuing with PTX reactions. Glad you liked this one!! This is another masterpiece. Mitch is a rare talent as a counter tenor and he has a beautiful voice, at least a 6 octave range and vocalizes so many sounds and beautiful ear candy. He is a mimic also and can really replicate sounds - he does sound like Cher here. Kevin is a master beatboxer for sure. Matt so warm on the bass. Kirstie's notes so sharp. Scott with the pop sounds. Agree with you that they sing with such clarity and perfection enunciation. More PTX suggestions for you Gold, Come Along, Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Can't Help Falling In Love With You, Imagine, Sound of Silence, Amazing Grace, Havana, Blinding Lights, Take On Me, Attention, Cheerleader, No (music video for the audio but must do the live performance for 100% entertainment value) and Aha live in Singapore (fan video). The entire Evolution Series - Michael Jackson, Arianna Grande, Beyonce, Rihanna, Music. Then PTX originals: Never Gonna Cry Again, Anchor, Happy Now, Coffee in Bed, The Lucky Ones, Sing, Run To You and Can't Sleep Love (Popspring 2016). Looking forward to more of your PTX reactions.
Thanks Meg! I’m glad I continued too or I would have missed some of thr best music PTX has made. Thanks for all of the suggestions! I’ll add them to the list.
To really appreciate this video you need to watch the "Side by Side" video which has PXT on the left of screen/left audio. The original hit on the right of screen/right audio. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y6WOzZixJpc.html
Great reaction and I just subbed. You are one of a few reactors that have mentioned their clarity and enunciation of words. Every single song is very clear. Love me some PTX! You mentioned how effortless they seem to perform therefore you need to check out PENTATONIX THE RECORDING OF EVERGREEN. This shows how they make it theirs and how they assign each person their lines. Very interesting.
Before I ever saw this, I thought Dirty Loops should do rock and pop medleys of various decades. I know they can rock heavy based on the ending of Crash and Burn Delight from Loopified.
I don't know if you have ever heard of Voctave but you really need to react to their version of You Will Be Found with a virtual choir. They are 14 person A Capella group with voices that are going to blow your mind!
They used auto-tune on Believe because Cher did in her original recording - not to correct anything, but as a vocal effect. It was one of the first (if not THE first) uses of auto-tune as an effect in popular music. You've joined the mass of reactors who don't want the video to be over, LOL!
Thanks Opera Fan! I love the name. I was never into opera until I took an opera class in college. I quickly became a fan. Aida and Carmen are excellent.
They are just amazing, especially for how young they are, even now at 30s...as a band teacher you walk by the band room and her this being done abs think some kids are needing around with the equipment and find 5 students doing this without instruments...... I mean really...
Hi. Really enjoy seeing reactions from music pros.. highly suggest checking out two performances they did on The Sing Off music competition…(which they won and catapulted them) “Let’s Get It On”, and “Dog Days Are Over”, the latter is first time we ever really hear Mitch and blows you away. Find the longer versions too with the judges reactions. Btw, both performances were live.
Try listening to Tesseract - "Of Matter" or "Of Energy" (2013 version). It's a metal band that incorporates jazz and funk and they have a vocalist but they include a special wind instrument ;) in some songs. Their album "Altered State" is broken into 4 suites. Of Matter, Of Mind, Of Reality, and Of Energy. Overall, the most epic album ever.
@@bobcieslinski Awesome! I'm excited to see what you think. Careful with music videos and live videos though, I heard those can get copyright strikes. Safest way is straight off Spotify, Tidal, Apple music, etc.
No one has to question my love for Petatonix arrangements, world class talent, and harmonies. BUT!! You should also explore Home Free (Man of Constant Sorrow is an excellent starting cover) and Voice Play (Oogie Boogie from nightmare before Christmas). Both are outstanding acapella groups in different areas than Pentatonix explores (although who PTX really is the trailblazer for modern acapella music).
The video editing itself is remarkable. There has to be about 30-40 layers of audio. If there is 3 mics around someone, edit all three audio recordings together in layers it makes it sound infinitely better.
Pentatonix Is a Eurotechno group, where Home Free is a Country/Pop/RB group. Both are Masters in the songs they do. Just have to match your music tastes.
Hooray!! I won't make you pick your favorite PTX Medley! The transitions were everything a professional DJ could hope to accomplish. To see some more PTX breadth, you may like their collaborations with Lindsey Stirling. Radioactive cover is very well done from Imagine Dragons, but I like the French song Papaoutai (and they are not fluent in French). "Sing" is a nice start on what original pieces they can do.
I think PTX should collab with Cher on a re-release of Life After Love like they did with Dolly for Jolene. That is a hit waiting to happen again. LOL Great reactions. Do you take elements of what you hear to try to teach your bands?
What a fantastic idea! I hope they do it that would be great! Thanks for the kind words too Tempus Solum! I wish I had the time to share this with my band. There is just too much to teach them. If I have the time I do but most of the time I don’t.
You should check out Yoyoka Soma. One of the best drummers on earth and she just turned 12. Every song she covers, she makes better. Her timing/note placement are heavenly. She's covered everything from Zeppelin, to Queen, RAtM, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Toto, Bruno Mars... She also composes her own beats and teaches. Start with her cover of Good Times Bad Times when she was 8... You'll be blown away
Oh… and for some real fun, catch the collaboration produced and with Todrick Hall, The Wizard of Ahhhs. Basically the Wiazard of Oz in six minutes with contemporary songs.
I have not heard a song yet by PTX that wasn't just perfection! I love every person in this band, I do miss Avi as well. I posted on another video about Kevin doing a rendition of Down on his own. It shows even more depth of his talent! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IGjg193h4Ok.html
Have you done their cover Official video of John Lennon's "Imagine"?, had a look at your video list and didn't see it. l would recommend it again due to the quality of their performance and the visuals but most of all the way they emphasise the message of the song is so overpowering. If you missed it (l went back 3 times to make sure) l loved the visual where the to Negro/Black/Coloured (l can never keep up with what the current politically correct name is/but that also depends on where you live) bumped together and switched clothes. Your reaction to each new song mirrored mine, wow that is mind blowing and so different from the last. Subbed
If you think k the transitions in this were awesome try evolution of Michael Jackson or Evolution of Music. I thought Kevin's lips were going to fall off with all the different precussions and they were both one take videos
It is not effortless. The audio was recorded in the studio before hand and they lip-synch the video. That's why they look like they aren't working at it. You don't hear one note from the video session.
ty for that next nice reaction :) but i have request pls pls look Dimash Kudaibergen ( SOS ) or other from him its just best singer of the world... u will fall in love
Thanks for the kind words FireFoxUltra! I’ve had quit a few people ask for him and I’ve got him I. The list and I’m looking forward to hearing him. Thanks!
Hi Bob, here's Davide from The Metallist PR. I would like to submit you the video of a French experimental jazz band called CKRAFT. Would you be interested in doing a reaction video? Let me know!
