Thank you for showing the Backstrap Loom with a Heddle. My Italian grandparents made large rugs with this method. I didn't know this until we bought their house and found the Heddle in the basement. My dad said they tied the strings to the doorknob and 2 other people manned the heddle!

for the first time, i’ve finally understood how to get different sheds!!! i’ve been wanting to try weaving for a long time, but i never understood how weavers in the videos i would watch would switch sheds so quickly; you’re the first one who’s done that step slow and focused enough for me to understand. thank you so much!!!

I was happy to learn how you warp and begin weaving, and when you added in all the situations you can weave in, I began smiling like a cheshire cat. Thank you for cheering me up, this miserable evening.

I’ve been staring for months at the rigid heddle my husband got me for Christmas (2020) that I asked for but once I got, was too intimidated to try to use. Finally 7 months later on my birthday today I decided I could do this! Your video is incredibly helpful and encouraging me to make my Norwegian Sami ancestors proud by starting my band weaving journey 😁. Thank you Clare! I didn’t realize till the end that my tools came from you too so it was additionally motivating that if you can weave on the same tools while multitasking, then I can do this with my full attention and focus! 😆

Really helpful and clear tutorial! Thanks for showing how to get started with pretty much just stuff you have around the house, and stripping the process down to the simplest approach. I know there are ways to make a heddle out of things like a small picture frame and popsicle sticks, and I'm sure I can make something into a suitable shuttle. Heaven knows I have enough fiber! I've been meaning to give backstrap weaving a try for a long time - now I have no excuses left. 😊 Thank you!

If you have a good knife, like an exacto knife style, then you can surely use a wide range of material. Sometimes thin plastic (think agenda cover) is the easiest and less time consuming but also just as useable as something with popsicle sticks

This was very clear and easy to see and understand! I have watched lots of warping videos, but I was always left confused about how to keep the strings from getting all tangled and out of order. I have a much better feeling about it, and your explanation of how to use the lease sticks to keep the warp flat before you run in through the heddle was helpful. It was also funny about the multi tasking! 😁 I can’t wait to try this! I thought I would have to get a lot more equipment, but since I have a heddle already, with a few strips of cloth and tongue depressors I can do this!

im glad it helped bc I think some of the cuts actually cut it out (edgars edited it as a non weaver so sometimes it just zoomed across haha) But we are finally ready for more videos. As you see our son now is bigger and there is time:) Happy weaving to you and if you have any questions follow the internet trail to write me.

Awesome tutorial! I find hand weaving a fascinating art medium, which has been around for thousands of years. I can only imagine the time, patience, and perseverance that our ancestors had when creating beautiful works of art out of hand weaving. I'm definitely going to try and experiment with hand weaving in my own art projects. Thank you for sharing! :)

This is so awesome and simple, I did my first weaving on an 8x10" frame loom that I made by knocking nails into the top and bottom of the frame, I also plan on making a much larger loom from a 12"x 34" canvas frame, but this is so much simpler to do then the larger backstrap looms I've seen, if I tried sitting on the floor and using them I'd never be able to get up!! 🤣🤣🤣

Hi, really any unless it is too chunky or some strange texture. Its always good to start with cotton or something similar and smooth/natural. If you have a finer weight you have a more narrow band and vis versa.
