Hey, the AMB Dir in the white tee was the band dir at Jefferson Davis when VanillaFunk was there. I also saw him playing as part of the band here. I don't understd comments about NOMB sounding like SU. Are ya crazy? Brian Simmons has coached & directed this band in the past, lots of SU alumni in the area, and so why wouldn't they have access to and use SU's arrangements. Anyone refusing an SU arrangement is beyond a fool...an idiot. Amazes me that HBCU band culture has so many aspects, varieties, and is entrenched in the diverse ethnic communities of the region. On the West Coast, we have none of that.
MAAB didn't want to see NOASB because they stood them up @ their event a couple of weeks ago. AMB followed suit and it cost NOASB money on the venue they rented.
This was a closer battle then some of yall giving credit. Alabama had good arrangements with the labor of their music. New Orleans was good. But gives me su vibes without a book. So it was nothing special about there music after the 2nd song. Sometimes you got to finesse it.
@KBThaBandhead Bruh, It's not all about power! Take away power then what are you judging? AMB was well balanced and dynamic. NO tubas was not matching the rest of the band power. I'm a GAMB fan so im not being biased
If we're talking about power AND musicality, AMB won by a landslide. They even incorporate their woodwinds in all their arrangements which I have huge respect for as a woodwind player! AMB reminds me of new school SU (good book, dynamics), while NOASB reminds me of old school SU (loud w/no dynamics). But NO did surprise me with that weekend arrangement.
