Today we're going to check out FIVE BANDS THAT SOUND LIKE JUDAS PRIEST. Judas Priest is arguably one of the most important metal bands of all time. They are the grandfathers of heavy and the band that brought leather and studs to the world. Today I'm going to share five bands with you that has that JUDAS PRIEST vibe. You know that heavy metal sound with dual guitars and clean highpitched vocals. In this video I'll bring you a Swedish NWOTHM band and some german power metal bands. Enjoy!
I excluded the solo work of Rob Halford, KK Downing, Ripper Owens and all of those but all their work also has a Priest vibe to them.

Surprised you didn't mentioned that Ralf Scheepers was a Gamma Ray member before auditioning (and failing) for Judas Priest. For those who still lives under a rock, Gamma Ray was the band formed by Kai Hansen (THE power metal legend and another massive Judas Priest fan) after leaving Helloween. There are some songs by Gamma Ray that absolutely sounds like Judas Priest, like To The Metal (a Metal Gods rippoff tbh) or Solid (a Rapid Fire rippoff tbh). Also, Kai Hansen was a member of Iron Savior on their three first albums, including the one you published.

more surprising is Devin Townsend (on the trail of Vai's "Sex & Religion") being invited to audition to replace Halford and rejecting it. Halford and Townsend voices are miles away in my opinion...

When I saw the title of the video, Primal Fear was the first band I thought of. Coincidentally, "Chainbreaker" was the song that immediately came to mind. Definitely one of my favorite Primal Fear songs, along with "Angel In Black" and "In Metal We Trust".

Max Norman produced two first Malice albums, he also produced Youthanasia and Countdown to Extintion, and Bark at the Moon from Ozzy. Yes, Jay also recorded "A Light in the Dark" with Metal Church. And James Neal was singing in Helstar.

Cool to see Malice and Saint mentioned as they are very underrated bands. Primal Fear tries so hard that it almost come across as a parody. Exciter and Running Wild both have some songs that sound close to Priest and of course both bands are named after Priest songs.

Ive seen Saint 3 times in concert and met the vocalist and bass player. The guys are super down to earth. Ive been to the bass players house to drop off a couple things I made for him(fan stuff). He said that all the albums were recorded in one of the members house except for the drums and weren't part of any record label.

Scheepers is really the only one that captures Rob's full midrange tone. Which to my ears is Halford's strongest gift. A lotta guys can do the screaming thing. Mid 70s early 80s Halford is phenomenally righteous.

Great video! Judas Priest has always been one of my favorite metal bands. I’d like to add Ария from USSR, and later Russia, as an honorable mention. They had more of an Iron Maiden sound, but were also heavily influenced by Judas Priest. And the artwork on their third album from 1987 looks like it could be a Judas Priest album.

Saint were a very under-rated outfit and probably one of the best Christian metal bands to have ever appeared, especially in the trad-true/U.S. power style. They don't even seem to get the recognition even in the Christian sub-scene.

JP is CLASSIC!!!!! Love the raw, black leather and chrome studs, in your face heavy metal. All of these bands sound great. I am most familiar with SAINT, been a fan since the beginning. They are still putting out fantastic music. In my opinion, their album, Time's End, is one of the best albums, period.

Helloween abs Gamma Ray are two bands who had a very strong identity and were also copied a million times, but when I listen to them there are several moments when it comes to my mind "it's so Priest like" 😁. Anyway they pulled off some great covers of Priest songs - very faithful covers, but they really felt it and had the ability to do it. 👍

Saw Malice supporting of all people Slayer at Newcastle Mayfair in the U.K , of course the crowd weren't too happy with them being on the bill but told the singer afterwards that " Against the Empire " was the greatest Judas Priest song that Priest never wrote . Put a smile on his face !!!

I've seen Saint live back in the 80s. They're really really good. Time's End is a fantstic album. Vocally they are like priest but not as much musically, some, but they aren't trying to be a copy cat band. Time's End is not their debut. Their first album is Warriors of the Son. It's a strong debut!!

I would add the 2 albums that Ripper Owens sanged with Iced Earth, Framing Armaggedon & Inglorious Burden (something like that), not to mention thst he actually was Priest's vocalist when Halford left. I mean literally anything Owens is on is an extension sound of Priest really.

In the days of tapes Malice was the A-side and the Hawaiien band Sarcred Rite - Is nothing sacred the B-side. The tape rarely left the player for weeks haha. The latter never popped up on the streaming services unfortunately.

I'm surprised you didn't mention Anthem. I mean they're basically the japanese Judas Priest. Their album "Domestic booty" is pretty much like an official sequel to Painkiller In terms of songwriting, production and musicianship. Anthem even collaborated many times with Chris Sangeridies on many of their albums.

about 2 months ago I've listened Headhunter eponymous album. Guys from Switherland, who got Chris Von Rohr from Krokus as the producer and Peter Tanner on vocals (future singer of Krokus as well). Very simillar sound to Screamin' For Vengeance

Yeah, Iron Saviour is like a mix of Priest and the typical German power metal band. (Helloween, Gamma Ray, Rage, etc)

Very interesting choice going with "Coming Home" to showcase Iron Saviour...no arguement here...having said that, I would have gone with "Condition Red" or " Battering Ram." And oh my, my, my....First time hearing RAM, and now I must own their works. Saint. I really thought I was the only human who knew Saint. Time's End is an absolute Satan Slaying Masterpiece of the Highest Order. Great Vid dear Ruth Less.

Good small cross section of Priest sounding bands. There are too many others to mention that also sound like Priest. I’ve been a Priest fan since the release of their 2nd album, Sad Wings of Destiny, in 76. The Ripper is the song that first hooked me on Priest. They are by far my favourite heavy metal band to this day. 👊🇨🇦

Nice! I've actually never paid any attention to Iron Savior or Primal Fear, but they sound really good. Need to check them out more. I think Swedish band Manimal have fairly strong Painkiller era Priest vibes, and Samuel Nymans soaring high-pitched voice plays a big part here. Good band anyway. 🙂

Primal Fear really has that Priest vibe. Iron Saviour has a bit of that but also more of a German power metal vibe. Yes, I added Manimal to the playlist. Cheers!

Primar Fear is ok, they are a bit formulaic albeit having some great songs like 9 Lives, Chainbreaker and others. So just pick and choose from their ample repertoire.

Got into Priest in the early 80’s at 7yrs old. Grew into Thrash and Death Metal. In early days I listened to Judas Priest on vinyl. There’s a lot of riffs, leads and Rob screams in thrash and death metal. Some Priest songs if you speed it up, you hear some familiar metal sounds.
