We actually ended up going to lake moraine on the very last day that it was open that season. We arrived at about 4:30 in the morning and climbed up to the icy lookout area and waited for a couple of hours in the freezing cold to see the mountains surrounding the lake. I will never forget that experience and the unforgettable beauty

Thank you for sharing! It does sound like a dream trip. They also do some trips from Moab to Colorado.

By the way we used your guide books and audio guides a couple of years ago on a 3-week trip up to glacier and then worked our way down through Yellowstone Grand Teton and a few relaxing days on the river at Rocky mountain national Park. The audio history was really helpful and added a whole other level to the trip. Thank you for that.

It's a two-day trip with an overnight in Kamloops. We took the gold leaf service. This was one of those experiences that we decided to splurge on and I definitely don't regret it even though it is quite pricey. The views were amazing and the train, food, amenities, and narration were absolutely top notch. There was no disappointment.

01:40 Banff and Jackson being close together is pretty spot on. The series The Last Of Us had some episodes where Canmore stood in for Jackson, Wyoming. If you're doing a once in a lifetime trip be sure to stay in Banff at least 1 might but probably 2 nights. Canmore is where I stay however as it's cheaper and more convenient because it's simply less crowded with more options and just as beautiful. Regarding Lake Louise being crowded, walk 5-10 minutes and the crowds will basically be 10% of what they are right at the walk up point.

We live in Colorado and did the Rocky Mountaineer with a visit to Vancouver first and then took the train to Jasper. We traveled early October (end of season). We stayed in Jasper for 5 days, rented a car and drove the Icefields Pkwy (did the Columbia Icefield - great adventure) and then stayed in Canmore instead of Banff. Only a short drive to Banff each day. Canmore was so much less crowded but a charming town and much less expensive. We loved walking along the river and I agree I liked Canmore better than Banff. Some of my best photos were taken in Canmore.

There's loads of free parking adjacent to the train station, we used it twice, busy but not full. Thanks for the great video, brought back a lot of memories from our Rockies trip last year. We stayed in Canmore, it was lovely, very friendly.

I can’t figure out how to get around the park since you can’t drive and park places. The shuttle system is very confusing to me. Where would you recommend I start to figure this out?
@WereintheRockies
@WereintheRockies Месяц назад
Much of Banff can be driven around but the Lake Louise/Moraine Lake area is pretty much a no personal vehicle area. You will need to purchase a park shuttle. See our article, Do I Need a Reservation to Visit Banff? wereintherockies.com/reservation-banff/ for additional help.

I can’t trust these content creators as they do not like poutine. Clearly have bad taste. Also, the dude didn’t know Canada has its own currency, pretty dumb

The most amazing part of the Banff / Yoho / Jasper National Park area are the almost unlimited hiking trails including unbelievable shorter day and half day hikes. This is also the way to explore the best places in these parks while avoiding the vast majority of the crowds since 95% of the tourists never leave the roads. On your next rip, I would forget the busy towns and explore the hiking areas at Lake Louise, Morraine Lake, Sunshine Meadows, Emerald Lake, Lake O'Hara, etc. etc.. That is the real beauty of this area. It would be hard to do this though staying as far away as Canmore.

Do I need to make a reservation to both lake? Lake Louis and Moraine? Do I need to make a reservation to enter the Banf National Park?
@WereintheRockies
@WereintheRockies 2 месяца назад
You do not need to make a reservation to enter the park but you will want to get a shuttle reservation. There is limited parking, so visitors have to park at the park n ride and be shuttled to the lakes and this requires reservations. The shuttle includes a lake connector shuttle to get you to both lakes. Have fun.
