I stayed in the Athenee last February and if you need someone to corroborate your testimony, I'm here for you. Everything about the Athenee is top notch. Like you, I became enthralled with the Athenee when I discovered it just scrolling on-line. Of all the hotels that I surfed, I returning to the Athenee because of its compelling digital presentation. Of course what you see on-line often does not translate into what you get in reality. But the Athenee did not disappoint. Beautiful and service-oriented in every way. (Did the lobby bellmen press your floor when you entered the elevator? Try assuming you're going to get that service at another hotel. And, of course, after the first day the bellman had committed my floor to memory.) Unlike you I did not stay in a suite, but I did pay for the Executive Lounge privileges and, once again, it was magnifique. The view was amazing and although the food was a little too foo-foo for my taste, it was delicious. But just hanging out in that lounge made me feel like a member of the one percenters, which, decidedly, I am not. I stayed at the Landmark hotel for a few days during that same trip and the Landmark is a solid, better-than-average, borderline great hotel, but it simply does not compare to the Athenee in terms of overall luxury. I'm returning to Bangkok in early 2024 and I had decided against the Athenee simply because it's a little too pricey. But your video has got me re-thinking my decision. WOW! This is pure luxury and what amazing staff. Quality service and i must say, you have an amazing personality that others see in your everyday travels. We don`t see many You Tubers with an educated persona that you appear to exude and it`s reassuring that you represent the western manners that many of us lack.
1. When I, who clearly did nothing wrong, heard the word "disgusting," the hotel was a definite witness. 2. The hotel, instead of supporting me, a victim of continued insults, actually restrained me and left the perpetrator unchecked. 3. As a result, the perpetrators not only did not repent when I asked for an apology but instead insulted me again, asking if I was drunk. 4. The hotel only verbally apologized without truly understanding my suffering. Their refusal to cooperate with the police investigation the next morning is clear evidence. 5. The hotel even dared to suggest, as if I were the perpetrator, that they had taken action against me. When I could barely ask for an apology from their table without any violence, and they did not even hear the apology, they continued to drag me away unilaterally and further victimize me with lies to avoid responsibility. 6. The hotel manager, who had been exchanging messages saying they would help, suddenly refused my request to go to the police station together, saying let's meet in the lounge at 9 a.m. When I went out, they were standing next to a white couple's dining table, laughing. 7. The reason why the hotel cannot admit that they allowed me into the lounge as a favor is that I had already paid a deposit for lounge access in a platinum tier room and saw them check in another guest who arrived later than me twice before me. But I didn't make a big deal out of it and asked for early check-in again and waited in the lounge. 8. There are no rules in any property in this world where you pay for entry, guaranteeing the safety of your belongings, luggage, and body, that allow insults, leave the perpetrator unchecked without any warning, and drag the victim out for secondary victimization. 9. Even if it's considered a problem between guests, the hotel should provide CCTV footage and witnesses. If there is evidence, that's the end of it. But the hotel's failure to care for a guest who suffered within the hotel boundaries, considering only their own standpoint, is a mistake in itself. Same guests like perpetrators and victims? 10. Refusing a police investigation at a global 5-star chain hotel where clear victims have occurred, not even in a cheap motel where people drink and argue, is shameful, embarrassing, and morally wrong, and clearly violates obligations.
I also booked on points and used my SNA for the Athenee suite for my next trip. Since you went during low season I wonder if they would have upgraded you to the suite without using the SNA

I'm pretty fortunate that my fiance is a Marriott Hotel employee and gets the corporate discount on every Marriott Hotel stay. We will be getting the same experience as you for a heavily discounted price (although slightly more expensive than what you paid there 😅)
I'm a bit of a hotel nerd myself. the quality of service at western branded hotels in Asia is just insane. Even a Westin in Asia outclasses Ritz Carltons of the West. Of the Marriotts in Bangkok, my top three are Sheraton Grande (the other THC property in the city), JW, Athenee in that order. Technically THC might be higher than JW in the Marriott hierarchy, but the recently updated rooms at the JW and the dining options there are more my speed. SGS has a bit of a dated hard product but the experiences and dining options are first class. The suites there are truly stunning, like a private jungle themed backyard with hot tub in a high rise hotel in the middle of the busiest part of the city.
The Athenee is nice but certainly not even close to the best. As for private checkin... This is something I do not like. Why is check in such a big deal. I want to stop at the desk, show my ID, get my key and go to my room. One big tip I have in Bangkok is not to get over-excited about lounge food. Outside your hotel is one of the best food cities on Earth! the lounges all over Bangkok are absolutely amazing compared to the USA, but they will spoil your dinner!
