It's a community effort. The world record speedrun of any given game has been influenced by hundreds of players' theories and tests and accidental discoveries. Some of these contributions are huge, saving over an hour in every run by skipping large portions of the game that were thought to be required before. Some are incredibly tiny, saving only a frame (smallest unit of time in a video game, 1/30th or 1/60th of a second depending on the game) in extreme instances. The scale of these discoveries can be limited by the length of the game. Mario 1 for example has been beaten in just over five minutes the entire time it's existed, but recent improvements over the years has shaved off enough time to beat it in 4 minutes 55 seconds.

Ive watched a few speed runs and i see like one person speed running while theres a group of 4 or 5 on the couch in the background explaining whats going on. I thought maybe that was a team of SPDRUNNs that just played that one game. Anyway awsome to know. Thanks!!!

@@Oliverbarcelona92 you watched an event called "games done quick", a biannual event for charity. Many thousands of people will "run" any given game, competing and collaborating to get the fastest time possible.

​@@Oliverbarcelona92 Yeah. There are speedrun marathons like Games Done Quick where speedrunners put on a live performance of their speedrun which serve as a gateway to watching other speedruns and raise money for charity.

Animation Time 23 It’s a glitch every top runner uses. It’s called Furnace Fun Moves and it’s very much not cheating. As for file time, he actually deleted the file *right* before he started it. You can see it says empty for a brief moment.

He is doing any% FFM, which involves a similar glitch which stores cutscene flags and collected moves. He is also picking up certain moves for the collection bonus, where getting Flight/Eggs Firing/Wonderwing give you a bunch of ammo for each.

Joostin Kookel If I’m not mistaken the kind of TV you use is actually important in the sense that it can change the way you play. There was fuss about s TV at a race since no one was used to it so an HDMI port might change the way he plays. Chances are it would cause him to relearn certain areas

PDIcomics He’s been playing for years. Any% a little bit less than 100% but I’d assume at least a thousand hours.

MΛVE The 810 note door after Furnace Fun cannot be skipped. Since there are 900 notes across 9 worlds all of them have to be visited to obtain the minimum amount. If we could find a way to skip that door literal minutes of time would be saved.

PDIcomics As it is 810 notes must be collected. Since there are 9 worlds with 100 notes each you have to visit them all no matter what. If we could find a skip for the 810 note door we could shorten this run significantly. But we’d never be able to go straight to Grunty from the beginning as there is no 50 note door skip.

McGreger Why not? You mean there is DEFINITEY NONE for the fifty and the 810 or none has been discovered? Haven’t hackers and people who know coding and whatnot torn apart this game and checked every possible nook and cranny? I just don’t understand how it could be impossible to skip those doors.

​@@PDIcomics Even though I'm not as experienced in Banjo speedruns, let's think about this. Consider the video. How does stiv clip through walls and doorways throughout the run? A lot of it involves flight. We can already rule out flight for the 50 note door. You might be able to argue clipping with the bee for the 810 note door, but given the circumstances it's either A) not viable for speed or B) not possible. That leaves exploitable corners. You've already mentioned the team of hackers and people breaking the game - are you seriously suspecting these people haven't tried to find that for how many years this game's been speedran?
