I’ve always wanted to ride a motorcycle. I never did because I didn’t trust my self discipline. Now 45, I picked it up riding and love it. Like you say, something about riding that just makes you feel alive. But in order to stay alive, we must practice self discipline and check our ego. I started on a ninja 300 two months ago. I heard exactly what you said, it’s too small, you’ll get bored! My better judgment kept me in check and didn’t listen. I started for commuting and not only is the 300 more than capable, it’s fun to ride. I did have road rage when I drove, but it didn’t transfer over to riding. If anything, it’s made me a more patient driver. Stay alert and stay safe fellow riders! Love your videos!

Start with a small bike is good advice for a beginner. I have been riding 25 years and learned thru police motor school. I started in that school on Honda Nighthawks we used for parks and light paved park paths. Also rode Harley police bikes. I always tell new riders looking for their first bike, start out with a light, small bike so while learning size and having to pick up (and you will) a behemoth might well psych you out and you give up. My current bike is a big bike I bought used, a 2007 Yamaha Royal Star tour deluxe (858 lbs). How I got the bike was from a guy who was a new rider who passed the MSF course and a week after getting his license, he wanted a big rumbling cruiser. He bought that bike and realized it was too much for him considering his skill level and was not enjoying the experience in fact not riding it. After a month he put it up for sale low mileage and I bought it from him.

You know it is a funny thing, sometimes I have a plan for a video well in advance, sometimes the thoughts start to formalize over the weekend and on Monday I start to jot down ideas. Sometimes I am pretty confident about the subject matter and sometimes I am not. This was a video I was not confident in prepping for. Usually, when I am struggling with a message I run it by my wife, she is a good sounding board and I trust her judgment. I have had several other videos that I struggled with the prep for and all of them have had the biggest impact upon the listeners. One of those was the video telling the story of my eye injury. I wrote, shot and edited that in one day. Once I was finished I asked my wife and girls to watch it with me before I decided if I would upload it. They gave an enthusiastic thumbs up and I still was not sure, but I hit the publish button and went to bed. That video continues to resonate with viewers 2 years later and God has blessed it. At this point in MCrider, I have come to recognize that struggle and accept it. Because I know that the struggle causes me to step back and God to step through. It is my prayer that this message resonates with those who need to hear it. I know I will get some flack from unbelievers in the RU-vid comment section, I know I will get some flack from the wheelie crowd, etc. All of that just rolls off my back. What I am concerned with is being obedient to God and not letting myself get in the way. RU-vid is a funny business. Some creators get 1,000 subscribers and they want 10,000. 10,000 leads to 50,000 and so on. Sometimes I forget how many people watch these videos and the reach that it has. Then I meet a real person who follows MCrider. Our paths cross at the motorcycle show or somewhere in town and I put a face to one of the numbers that RU-vid uses to measure success. The faces that I have met resonate so much more with me than the numbers and it causes me to check myself and my motives. So I will continue to speak my heart. I will try to tell the truth as I see it, always giving room that I may be wrong or don't see the complete picture. When it comes to sharing my faith, if it bothers you, you will just have to deal with it, it is who I am and I would not be honest with you if it was not a part of my story on MCrider. But, in the end, it is the love of motorcycling and for me, obedience to God, that draws this thing together. Thanks for being a part of it. See you on the road, Kevin

My dad rode in the 30's 40's and 50's. When I started riding many years ago he sat me down and looked into my eyes to make sure I was listening. He told me that one day I would know, without a doubt that I was in complete control of my motorcycle and that I couldn't possibly go down. He then changed his look and said "on that day get off and don't get back on until you change that thought." He said I would never be in complete control and that I had zero control of those around me. Smart man!

Same situation with me, I had 3 motorcycles in my 20"s, wrecked the last one when I was 29 years old. Excessive speed and lack of road strategy contributed to that crash. I called it quits after that because I now had a family and the beginnings of my career, so very limited time for motorcycles after that. I got my next bike at age 66, now retired, and I now have two bikes at age 67. I am much wiser now, and totally believe in training, riding skills, and road strategy, hence my desire for supporting MCrider. I truly enjoy riding much more now, so much more than I ever did when young, and do not need the "excessive speed thrill" any more. I love just cruising around, sober, and alert, just enjoying the road, and the scenery. Like Kevin said, there is just nothing quite like it! Ride safe.

From there, I practiced in a parking lot on our 1450cc Ultra Limited. That was tough. From there, bought my Road King. I was hell bent on skipping the “starter bike”. I don’t ever recommend other new riders to follow my example. I felt I could handle it only because 1. I’m surrounded by skilled riders that would never allow me to develop bad or dangerous habits and 2. I have enough self discipline to have practiced a ton before allowing myself street time. There’s no need to rush through the process and put myself in danger prematurely.

I'm in my mid 40s , finally got my permit last year. I've ridden dirt for years , and who hasn't taken a buddy's bike around the block ? I know I don't know squat and the road was a little spooky at first. Even having to stop and go from a stop sign required more attention than I thought . I'm riding a borrowed Yamaha wr 250 from Dad and he's got a ktm rc390. He used to race with his brothers , so as far as learning control I've learned alot from them. I don't know it all and realize I have a long way to go as far as the basics of street riding. Haha sometimes it feels odd because this is a dual purpose bike and I feel like I have to run somewhere. That comes from the dirt , where you have to pop out on a road for a little stretch to get to the next trail and don't wanna get in trouble. 😅

Kevin, 50 years ago I purchased a 500cc motorcycle. It was my first motorcycle and I rode it to work about 3 miles one way and home again. A older man at my wor k said no boy I going to give you a piece of advice , he said when you are not afraid of it sell it . In other words you are not in control anymore. Now I am 69 years old and I still have a motorcycle but, I know it has got too much for my physical condition to feel safe so it is up for sale. I am finished riding. God Bless all you do to teach and keep riders safe.

Yammie was taking the turn on the inside, oncoming lane... from my perspective. He has a 'Busa' now and 'seems' a tiny bit more reserved. Few, like 'Yammie', ever receive a second chance to live. Many more are never able to walk, eat solid food, let alone ride. God has a plan for Yammie. Not sure what it is at this point, but he most definetly has some future purpose.

I’m blessed to live in LA with great weather and can lane split to get thru traffic (mostly freeway but non freeways too), I see some guys driving way too fast, incl when lane splitting, they would rather be cool, would rather reduce their chance of being seen by wearing dark colors. As a former truck driver here’s my rules: Speed mngmnt (can’t be in a big hurry),space mngmnt (the space all around you, especially ahead of you, look far enough ahead of you and not just at the car ahead of you, leave enough space to be able to stop or give yourself an out), visual search (keep you eyes moving incl checking your mirrors), communication (be seen, wear bright clothing, stay out of blind spots, use your horn, never assume you think you know what the other guy is gonna do). Practice makes perfect. Stay within your comfort zone, don’t take risks. No distractions (fiddle farting with radio or music or phone). I like your “image of God” wisdom Kevin. Gods love is in us, it’s up to us to share it!

I don't believe anyone was created by god, nor in the image of any god. I think the idea of attributing someone to a divine event, that gives them an afterlife devalues the life they have here and now. I believe life is so much more precious because there's no afterlife, no divine passage once you die. All that you do here and now is more meaningful and more important and and a life should be care for more greatly. Because when you die that is the end of it. Because I don't believe in god it makes each human life all that more precious and important. Because There is no 2nd chance, no judgement awaiting you, no angels, no big man up stairs. Life is utterly precious because this moment in time this all you get to live. So don't waste it being stupid on a motorcycle. Motorcycles are fun and I want more people to ride them. But I also want people to value their life, because at the end of the day this is the one life you get to live.

How's it go... Oh yea, the truth hurts. If you do stupid stuff, bad things happen. REALLY sage advice Kevin. I will admit to doing a couple of things you talk about in my younger day. The first is riding too fast, I've stopped doing that. The second is starting out on a 750 cc motorcycle but it was a Royal Enfield and it has about half the horsepower of current bikes of that size. I also learned a very hard lesson at someone else's expense the very first time I had any motorcycle out other than the ride from where I bought it to my house. A friend of mine lost his leg from the knee down because he was drinking, got mad, took off down the road in a motorcycle with no front break and ran into a semi. I have no idea who was legally at fault, but I do know who came out on the short end of the stick. If you see yourself in Kevin's video change something, it's in your best interest.

Your comment about road rage allowed me to recall an indecent during my 35 years of driving a city bus. Some car blew right through that Intersection and went into the opposite ditch just in front of me. A few years later .. a Man driving an 18 wheeler full of corn was T-bone at that intersection by a woman driving an SUV . Her License suspended .. she was fired from her job as a Nurse for Drug abuse she had 3 young Children.. The Man in the Semi died in a fire .. Leaking fuel tank .. he hit a power pole downed electric wired ignited the fuel .. The woman died 24 hours later but was never Conscious after her crash .. 1 year later she drove her car into a pond next to the same road..

That's very sad when some one almost gets killed do to lack of common sense yet they blame the car.. There is such a thing as defensive riding. I don't have a problem with bikers riding like Morons .. they are not going to hurt cadgers very often.. If you want to worry about Moron Drivers worry about 18 Wheelers Delivery Trucks are even cars that drive like Morons as they have a lot more weight to cause death and destruction .. You also have to worry about Cops who will fire 200 Rounds at a UPS Truck with a Hostage in it and is surrounded by Citizens in car.. at a stop light. Even though the UPS truck is Governed to 58 MPH , it has GPS tracking and there is a Police Helicopter following it..

I disagree with the “600cc or up” point. It took me forever to save enough to get a bike, I originally wanted a vulcan 500 but wanted something that could get on the highway so I could ride the bike anywhere without having to save and upgrade later down the road. It was much easier to just learn on a ninja 650, which I did really well on. Im keeping this bike for years since I have no reason to upgrade past this displacement, I dont really care for leader bikes

RU-vid policies on responding to any complaints is a huge pile of crap. At the first sign of a complaint they respond with a crowbar and yank something. They do not have the infrastructure in place to evaluate the complaint before using a crowbar. They use it and then they say oh you can appeal but the appeal has nothing to do with anybody at RU-vid it goes back to the complainer who says yeah I haven't changed my mind. Huge pile of crap. I've had it myself concerning copyright issues. Kevin you are correct in your thinking that some people should not be riding a motorcycle because I've seen them all over here in Canada and in the states when I have crossed the border. Those are the ones that typically get into trouble and cause a bad reputation for all the rest of the motorcyclist and severely affect insurance costs for everybody because of the few. That is not to say that the safe minded Riders don't get into accidents, because there are num minded car drivers who don't pay attention or respect motorcycles as well.

I saw that video on that rider's own channel and my first thought was that a hot head should not ride a motorcycle. As you and many other people have said, a motorcycle has 2 wheels and going up against a 4 wheeled vehicle, it will loose every time. That accident was absolutely avoidable and only happened because of the impatience of that rider, speeding in to a bad situation. If you ride like that, sooner or later, you will either die or get severely injured. I do not ever intend to ride like a hot headed person who is out to prove a point to everyone, even at the cost of getting in to an accident.

@soapfanaddict fair enough... Some riders are skilled but still push the limits of their bike There is simply no reason to be 80 or 100 mph off the track and especially in traffic...... Go to Montana or west Texas if you need to ride like that in my opinion

Anybody know who it was? There are so, so many motovloggers who are shitty riders I don’t know where to start looking.

I’ve ridden 45 years and in my opinion I think this is your best video ever. I believe I’ve watched all of them and learn something from each one or at the very least change my way of thinking about the subject. Every motorcyclist should watch this and evaluate themselves.

Disappointed that you apologised to someone who vindictively and unfairly got you censored. Your work was honest and for the benefit of the general public. This person had you silenced and you said sorry!

Well you can just be disappointed then. Society is too quick to claim “I’m right, and I demand you accept it.” We need more peace makers and fewer people who demand their rights.

XTRABIG Tolerance in the face of intolerance is the equivalent of handing over your lunch money to the school bully. It’s taken as a sign of weakness and guarantees more of the same.

@@MCrider I really like the way you think Kevin and this is another awesome video. It's a difficult thing to do, reacting positively to something negative, offensive, hurtful and a person has to have a measure of humility to be the way you are. In Hungary we have a commonly used saying, "If someone casts a stone at you throw back a loaf of bread to him."

@@kutykutyka Yea but, Kevin just rolled over. He didn't throw a loaf of bread. I really wanted to learn from watching this rider slip up but Kevin doesn't even mention who it is thus, like a user said before me "...Kevin just gave his lunch money to school bully and said sorry..."

There was a female Joooow Tooober where some one used a short clip of her video in their video .. She was upset that they didn't ask permission to use her Video .. Then she had to learn about Fair use.. I asked her why would she not want more exposure so she can get more subscribers..
