Great tutorial. I remember when they hit the scene with this track. all the drummers I know were like: wow, this dude really has a nice style! whenever I play an eighth patttern on a tom I'm thinking of Matt Tong.
Hey, I just wanna say that I love the sound of your drums. Especially the snare, it just sounds like the perfect snare sound to me. Could you maybe to a video about all the gear you use and the heads and stuff?
+Vince Mickey Hey! Thanks for that, here's a video I did a while back on my kit: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8N_XE6X6TQ0.html Doesn't talk about heads and stuff though. Usually I use coated Evans G2 on the toms and an Evans Power Center Reverse Dot on the snare with a couple of bits of Moon Gel or tape to dampen some overtones. I hope that helps you out!
What’s the advantage of using two hands on the hi-hat (I notice Matt does it too)? I figured that part out on my own and was just playing the whole thing with my right hand (playing doubles). But as always I don’t know if I should be doing things differently.
On those two 16th notes at the end of the bar? The main advantage for using two hands on those is a smoother sound. Have a muck around with both ways and see what you prefer!
I know it's an unknown song, but could you please teach us how to play 'I forget where we were' by Ben Howard? I think the last third of the song has a really interesting drum part going on, but i can't figure out how to play it :/
So I see you've never done a song by Lorde before, but could you see what you could make of Biting Down? It's got a pretty cool drum riff and I'd love some pointers for playing it!
Please do sunday morning by maroon 5 I’ve always loved the drum solo in the beginning of the song i even have it as an alarm tone just to hear it every morning
