Just a note; Baofeng advertise this series as the first international licence free handy. the matching baofeng BF T8 PC programming software has built in cores for most countries channels. But i find the free multi radio chirp software more practical. Obviously i'm a fan of these radios
They have 99 Memories, Default on T8 is 22 US FRS channels, Default on R8 and U9 are usually random 16 450 to 469MHz channels so like a BF888 you will need to reprogram them and latest chirp to program them to UK PMR446 and or 70cm etc with a single pin UV3R programming cable,
It works well! You should do a shoot out comparison with your FC200 and Retivis RT18, etc One small point the BF T8/U9/R8/ RT16 program through the speaker mic socket, usb socket is only for charging. Hiya - really interested in these, will be handy around the house. What puts me off is that I got a Baofeng and AFAIK its not legal, or at least it produces really really bad harmonics, so much so they are not allowed by the FCC. What the harmonics like on these little hand helds ? If they was in regulation I would be interested in getting a pair - thanks for the excellent review and demo as ever tho. Was it a UV-3R?? I think these are made by the same dept that makes the UV3R because they use the same data lead, and charger, except the UV3R charger lead has been swapped for a double micro USB ended one. the charger even has the same middle pin negative markings, unique to the UV3R. Personally i would go for the BF-R8 version which seems to be slightly cheaper and is labeled for 430-440Mhz use but will all program for 99ch 400 to 480Mhz
you should be able to receive anything from 400-470 ham radio pmr radio frs radio and security frequencys just listen just program in the required frequency and see what you get
