Hi, I have a few Baofeng UV-5R radios that I’ve been experimenting with. Recently, I decided to upgrade and got a pair of Quansheng UV-K5's, which I really like. Then, I felt the need for digital radios and purchased a Baofeng DM-1701, hoping to catch some local digital chatter. However, I haven’t been able to pick up anything at all. It seems like I might be doing something wrong, or maybe there’s simply no one talking. Thanks. P.S. I got the digital radio because whenever I scan the area and hear chatter, it’s just static. I know this is because they’re transmitting digitally. After googling digital ham radios, I found the DM-1701 and decided to try it.
Hi you made a good choice first thing you need to find out is are there any dmr repeaters near you if not you need a hotspot after that message me again .
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones Thanks for the quick reply. I forgot to mention that I know nothing about ham radios. However, I found some information about a repeater "near me": **Repeater: DB0WET** - **Location:** Wetter JO31QI - **Coordinates:** 7.362277, 51.359974 - **Frequency:** 439.30000 / 431.70000 FM - **Offset:** -7.6 - **Echolink Node:** #8070 (Ruhrlink) I have no idea what any of this means, and I'm not sure if I want to learn, ha ha. That said, I just want to listen to local radio chatter. I guess this isn't the right radio for that!? Thanks.
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones I've just bought one of these and it's on way,. I'd bought the baofeng Dr 1801 to scan local digital uisness radio and what ever else is local, and it found nothing. Even in its monitor mode. I hear these 1701 are better for scanning and easier. Is this true,. Probably should have asked before I bought it. Mine is open gd77 too. Any help appreciated
I assume that since it is not GPS, each time you move the radio to a new QTH (location) you must manually re-enter the GPS numbers to accurately show satellite data?
My friend I'm interesring to get the DM-1701, I will use it mostly in UHF frequency, (VHF too but not always), I was checking the specifications but not sure if the output is about 10 wstts (I need 10 watts as minimun power). I hope you can give some lhelp about this.
Does this work like a Anytone 878 with the opengd77 ie Does it have digital monitor like the Anytone 878 and does it receive everything in scan mode like the Anytone 878 , I have used the Anytone 878 as a dmr scanner, can I use the baofeng dm-1701 opengd77 the same way receiving any TG any CC and both time slots in scan?
