In episode 3 FLAME tackles the reality that baptism is a work of God not a work of human hands. This demonstrated by reading Ephesians 5:25-27 & 1 Peter 3:20-21. He kicks the episode off by visiting his song, ‘He Delivers’ from the latest EP, ‘Word And Water’ and explains key portions of the lyrics. Finally, he walks through the next section of the book, Free to Be: A handbook to Luther’s Small Catechism. Happy digging!

Get a concordance. Look up the words baptism or baptize. Pray over them and study them. With the help of the Spirit, you’ll eventually understand.

The Colossians text makes reference to "being filled with Him" (spiritually "fully immersed," in union with Christ, IN Christ), a circumcision "made without hands" (spiritual circumcision), having been 'buried' with Him in baptism (not dunked or dipped, as in water, but 'buried'), "also raised with Him".... - you see, union IN Christ is being crucified with Christ (Gal 2:20), buried with Christ (Romans 6:4), raised with Christ (Colossians 3:1), seated with Christ in the heavenlies (Eph 2:6), receiving His righteousness (Phil 3:9), BECOMing the righteousness of God in Him (2 Cor 5:21).... you see, the baptism described here in Colossians is Spiritual baptism, and another way to put it is "Union," "Union IN Christ." The Colossians passage points to spiritual baptism as distinct from water baptism, and actually spiritual baptism precedes water baptism as shown in Acts 10. So...........are there any other passages to show that 'water baptism' isn't a work of man?

SPIRITUAL baptism is God's work, water baptism by man comes after (Acts 10)

Great question! Now that I rightly understand that God baptizes us and that it’s His work, there’s no need for me nor anyone to get “re-baptized.” In fact, biblically, there’s no such thing as being “re-baptized.” The Bible says in Ephesians 4:5, there’s, “one Lord, one faith, one baptism,…”. God grants forgiveness and assurance through baptism, so my one time baptism that God performed, using human hands, regular water, & His word of promise, is good enough. Check out these two Q&A sessions I held on the matter: Baptism Q&A ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j5vrV-Sv1wk.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VyFuCFstsT0.html Enjoy! Again, good question.

Annabaptists re-Baptize, yet it focus inward and places all the emphasis on the person. God baptizes with ordinary water joined with God’s spoken Word. Rest in Christs love and finished work. God does it all. We receive it as God’s gift given to and for us. Beautiful.

"The saving through this". Idk if this is heterodox or not. It's not a serious take and I don't hold this. Just a thought experiment: In the passage relating to Noah's flood I look at it like this, we are saved through the waters, God putting to death the evil man (rest of the world) and out of the waters comes the saved man (Noah). Just as we have been put to death by the old man in Romans 6, we see this here in 1 Peter. Like I said, it's not a real take but I look at baptism as us, the evil man, being killed through baptism and then being risen up from the waters.

St. Paul had a similar gist or view on baptism. Romans 6, 7, and Colossians 2 all go into how we "die in baptism with Christ" or how we're "buried with Him". We are baptized into His death. He died, we died. We are raised to newness of life with Christ at the time of our baptism. For Christ has bestowed His Word and promise through this blessed sacrament.
