Watch the new sermon from Apologia Church with Pastor James White. This is part 1 of a series on the subject of baptism which will be done by Dr. White. Baptism is a vitally important issue within the Christian Worldview. However, throughout the centuries, Christians have had in-house disagreements over the mode of baptism as well as specifically who should get it and when. Dr. White hopes to bless the body of Christ with a thorough biblical as well as historical examination of this subject. We hope it blesses you! Show someone!

A person must be “baptized” to be saved, but it has nothing to do with water. The proof is found below. Old Covenant Baptism vs. New Covenant Baptism (water vs. Spirit) Water baptism was a part of the Old Covenant system of ritual washing. The Old Covenant priests had to wash before beginning their service in the temple. (Ex. 30:17-30) When Christ was water baptized by His cousin John in the Jordan River, He was under the Old Covenant system. He also only ate certain foods, and wore certain clothes, as prescribed by the 613 Old Covenant laws. Christ was water baptized by John and then the Holy Spirit came from heaven. (Acts 10:38) The order is reversed in the New Covenant. A person receives the Holy Spirit upon conversion, and then believers often declare their conversion to their friends and family through a water baptism ceremony. Which baptism makes you a member of Christ’s Church? The New Covenant conversion process is described below. (Born-again) Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, (A person must “hear” the Gospel, and “believe” the Gospel, and will then be “sealed” with the Holy Spirit.) Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (See Jer. 31:34 for the New Covenant promise, and 1 John 2:27 for the fulfillment) ============ Which baptism is a part of the salvation process, based on what the Bible says? What did Peter say below? Acts 11:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Acts 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Based on Luke 3:16, and John 1:33, and Acts 1:5, and Acts 11:15-16, the most important thing about the word "baptize" in the New Testament has nothing to do with water. The Holy Spirit is the master teacher promised to New Covenant believers in Jeremiah 31:34, and John 14:26, and is found fulfilled in Ephesians 1:13, and 1 John 2:27. Unfortunately, many modern Christians see water/ every time they read the word "baptize" in the text. Based on the above, what is the one baptism of our faith found in the passage below? How many times is the word "Spirit" found in the passage, and how many times is the word "water" found in the passage? Eph 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, Eph 4:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Eph 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, (See 1 Cor. 12:13) “baptize” KJV Mat_3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Mar_1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Water or Holy Spirit?, See Eph. 1-13.) Luk_3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: Joh_1:26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; Joh_1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. Act 1:5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. Act 11:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. 1Co_1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. 1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. (See Eph. 4:1-5) Heb 9:10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. (Old Covenant ----> New Covenant)

Perhaps this isn't the corect forum or maybe I missed the reference, but, in discussions of baptism, why is there no mention of the Jewish mikveh? It seems to me that, at least from a superficial standpoint, that the concept of baptism flows naturally out of Jewish ritual cleansing. To me, it seems that Jesus, amongst all His other corrections of Jewish religious practices and ceremonies, was correcting or perhaps re-focusing Jewish ceremonial cleansing to a once for all cleansing in His blood represented by and through the baptismal waters. I would greatly appreciate a consideration of this in one of your venues. I believe it has the potential to be profitable for study and for bolstering the immersion argument. Many thanks and Maranatha!

The only true name of the Savior of the world is YAHSHUA! “Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. For we do not preach ourselves, but the Christ YAHSHUA the Lord...” (2 Corinthians 4:1-5). Halleluyah means, “Praise YAH!” Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation’” (Isaiah 12:2 NKJV). YAH, which means ‘I AM’, in Hebrew, and this is the name which is above every name revealed to Moses (Exodus 3:13-15). Christ acknowledged that His name is YAH, as in “YAH Saves,” which is the revealed name YAHSHUA (see Matthew 1:21, for He will save His people), because He has the name which is above every name. For He said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM {YAH}” (John 8:58). Jesus, Iesus, Iesous, Yeshua, Isa, Hey-zeus, are counterfeit names for they lack “YAH.” “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). The Heavenly Father revealed the Savior’s name: “YAHSHUA.” [YAH = I AM, Shua = Salvation, thus YAHSHUA.] The apostle Paul, on the road to Damascus, encountered the Savior, who introduced His name to him in Hebrew as “YAHSHUA” (Acts 26:12-16). The apostle Paul heard in Hebrew Christ revealed His name as YAHSHUA, and Paul hearing YAH actually wrote the one name, “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of YAHSHUA every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that YAHSHUA the Christ is LORD, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11). Halleluyah, Praise YAH, Praise YAHSHUA! YAHSHUA is the only name of salvation, and the gospel warns us not to reject His name: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:16-18). The Savior’s name is YAHSHUA, and because there is no other name, any other names are counterfeits [not including titles, such as El Shaddai, or Emmanuel], and these counterfeit names are because: “Satan, deceives the whole world” (Rev. 12:9). “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12). Believe in the revealed name YAHSHUA and forsake all other names.

Likewise a Presbyterian, and likewise with Luther and Calvin on this issue....... sort of. It's a slightly flimsy argument, in my eyes, because as soon as we say we're with Luther on something, and even (to a lesser extent) with Calvin, you'll be continually surprised to learn just how many doctrines they held that a Westminister-style Presbyterian would absolutely not. To say so is to open yourself to the next obvious question of, "So you agree with Luther's view of baptism, that the baptism of infants is an act of saving regeneration?" It all goes a bit pear-shaped from there!
@oracleoftroy
@oracleoftroy 3 года назад
@@Mic1904 As a Westminster guy myself, I don't have a problem with baptismal regeneration. Here's why: WCF 27.2 "There is in every sacrament a spiritual relation, or sacramental union, between the sign and the thing signified: whence it comes to pass, that the names and effects of the one are attributed to the other." I think at least 90% of the debate between Reformed and Lutheran is merely miscommunication due our preferred ways of expressing ourselves. Lutherans prefer speaking in terms of the sign, Presbyterians in terms of the thing signified. My confession says both are correct and biblical. Even in Luther's work, it is clear that he is not saying that the mere water ceremony is the thing that saves. In the Large Catechism he has a category for a baptism "absent from the Word" which he says "the water is the same as that with which the servant cooks, and may indeed be called a bath-keeper’s baptism." (IV.22). And he speaks of the spiritual reality of Baptism in 74-75: "And here you see that Baptism, both in its power and signification, comprehends also the third Sacrament, which has been called *repentance, as it is really nothing else than Baptism.* For what else is repentance but an earnest attack upon the old man [that his lusts be restrained] and entering upon a new life? Therefore, if you live in repentance, you walk in Baptism, which not only signifies such a new life, but also produces, begins, and exercises it." It is clear that Luther isn't saying the mere act of getting wet saves, nor that a baby is automatically saved through the water ceremony if they never repent. But 99% of the debate is the Lutheran incorrectly lumping Calvin's view with Zwingli and then only arguing against Zwingli and ignoring the actual Reformed position no matter how much evidence to the contrary is presented to them.
@Mic1904
@Mic1904 3 года назад
@@oracleoftroy Lot of excellent points here, friend, much of which I fully agree with! Some of your comments match up uncannily with some of what I’ve been studying and thinking on lately with regards to the sacraments that it’s like having a conversation with myself. I completely share your view that both Calvin and the framers of the Westminster Standards have a view of the sacraments that’s different from the kind of Zwingli-leaning perspective of some in modern reformed-ish and broadly evangelical circles. I also wholeheartedly agree that by being careful with our language and definitions, we discover we are indeed closer to our Lutheran brethren than some might think. As someone who spends some time listening to confessional Lutheran (LCMS-type) pastors though, it’s at this point that I would sound just a small note of caution (if I could be so bold) before we suggest that this amounts to 90% similarity with the Lutherans on these specific matters. I totally get it, and I’ve been here before - but every time you think you’ve sussed out the confessional Lutheran perspective on the sacraments and told yourself, ‘Ah, ok, I think I understand what they’re saying, and y’know, I think we’re actually very much on the same page about the sacraments in a way you might not think once you sort the language out!’, there’s a confessional Lutheran waiting around the corner to tell you that, no, actually, quite literally they believe that when the water hits the baby’s head with the Trinitarian formula, that child is now literally a saved Christian (though, in Lutheran doctrine, they can of course walk away from the faith in later life and lose salvation) and that, for Lutherans, to talk of the day they were saved is not a discussion of some kind of ‘born again’ moment, but a discussion of the day of their baptism as a child as the day they were saved. Yes, of course, you’re correct to say they do not ascribe that power to the water (the sign) itself, yet that is the moment at which the thing signified (salvation) takes place in a very literal sense, regardless of how you or I might interpret Luther himself on this matter. And not, as we Westminster Presbyterians might try and attempt to fudge and reframe their perspective: ‘Oh, you mean Christian in, like, the federal sense that they are a part of the visible church as a part of a covenant household, but to whom we do not ascribe presumptive regeneration and Lord’s Table privileges until they are of age to profess faith before the Kirk Session, right?’. No, literally - water of head + Trinitarian formula = child is a Christian on the way to heaven from henceforth unto eternity unless they stray from the faith. They already are a saved Christian by way of their infant baptism. That would be my only one word of caution - I get it, and totally agree, we are much closer to a Lutheran understanding of baptismal regeneration when we all properly understand how we’re utilizing the terminology (and our Lutheran brethren can, respectfully, be dreadful for conflating Calvin and Zwingli!), but that the Lutherans really do, crucially, take it to that place that we sometimes try and imagine they surely don’t. Appreciate your thoughts on the matter! Just my proverbial 2 cents for whatever it may (or, more likely, may not) be worth. Enjoyed reading that.

I just had to quote it. I know exactly what you are talking about and have experienced it for myself. Maybe they are right, but I find that the Book of Concord is more careful with their language than those who reply like that are. When I've pushed back, I haven't seen one respond in a way that makes sense of the nuance Luther has. Perhaps it is the peril of only having interacted with lay-Lutherans. I find the lay-Calvinists on my own side give similar unhelpful push back when they get cornered, defaulting to "you don't understand Calvinism" even during those rare times when the objector actually does. But I won't claim to have more than passing knowledge of Lutheranism. I haven't read even half of the Book of Concord, but I've read Luther's catechisms regarding the sacraments and don't recall anything that I explicitly disagreed. If there is something, it is something I haven't read yet or it is an extra-confessional interpretation. I do approach the Book of Concord like my church approaches our confessions; treating it as if it shows where the boundaries are. Maybe they view it as being more precise and narrowing than that. _"No, literally - water of head + Trinitarian formula = child is a Christian on the way to heaven from henceforth unto eternity unless they stray from the faith."_ But that's how my church (PCA) treats children as well. They are assumed to be Christian and children of the covenant until they walk away. The difference here is that we would say they were never saved, and (some? most? all?) Lutherans would say they were saved and are now not saved (I seem to recall that there is some debate about losing salvation in Lutheranism). _"They already are a saved Christian by way of their infant baptism."_ And like I indicated before, I honestly don't have a problem with this claim, per se. It is Biblical language, and when I've worked through with Lutherans what they mean by it, it is clear they aren't talking about a mere water ceremony per se, but a work of God just as we would. But yeah, they do tend to push against saying that clearly sometimes. But the ones who push back hardest also seem prone to saying things that are verifiably wrong, like claiming that Lutherans are not at all in communion with Reformed Christians, yet things like "A Formula of Agreement" exist. There are always people who care more about being contrarian than accurate, so it is easier to dismiss their claims about things I know less about when they are that wrong about claims I can readily verify.

@@oracleoftroy Very interesting all round, I've learned a fair bit from this interaction alone. You're probably quite right, for example, that the confessional Lutheran position may very well not have the nuance and depth of understanding of Luther himself (I have heard someone point out - hey, remember, there's a difference between Luther and Lutheranism). Very interesting what you say about the PCA. I'm from a Scottish Free Church background, and my church has friendly though entirely informal relations with the PCA (also with the OPC, incidentally). And of course they're well known to us through the likes of Sproul. Lot of respect for that denomination. It sounds to me (and I'm happy to stand corrected) that what you're describing is a form of presumptive regeneration? That a child is considered a Christian believer unless proved otherwise? This view is not totally unheard of in all of Scottish Presbyterianism, but it is controversial one and very much a minority view (the kind old ladies will whisper about in the back pew while noisy eating boiled candy) and would be officially rejected by most of the 700 zillion denominations we somehow manage to have here. The view typically would be that while a child is covenantally and federally apart of a Christian household and carrying the covenant sign, it doesn't presume regeneration and salvation anymore than in the old covenant ("Not all of Israel is Israel") and that a covenant child has to make their own profession of faith when they are of age to be a communicant member of the church and not just 'an adherent'. As with some aspects of Lutheranism though, it is possible that we are actually describing mostly the same thing but in different language. As per usual, very interesting to hear your (well expressed) perspective.

@@oracleoftroy that’s because we’ve read the written documentation of the Marburg Colloquy and no matter how much more nuanced a description, a sacrament that confers nothing, still confers nothing, no matter how many more words are used to describe it. In the Lord’s Supper both believers and unbelievers alike consume our Lord’s Body and Blood orally, giving life to those who believe and condemnation to those who don’t. But both received the Lord’s Body and Blood, orally. Calvin would never say that. He said unbelievers received mere bread and wine. Which is what Zwingli said.

I have literally seen James White at my church back in the nineties.....I like him a lot......... My problem with this position is that he does come with former biases......... I would lose in a debate with him or in just remembering what I have learned over the years. There are tens of thousands that could better discuss this topic than me. Nowhere does the scriptures say YOU HAVE TO BE IMMERSED. If that is the case, then in another instant you would have to immerse a table to wash it for that passage uses the same Greek word. When the scripture says and straightway, he came up out of the water, nowhere intimates that he was fully under the water. Going down into the water literally means you were on the shore now you went down into the water. How far? To your ankles, knees, thighs, waist, chest, neck...........I think RC Sproul has a good understanding of baptism as a SIGN of the New Covenant.......NOT that these children are automatically saved or even will be saved.....but as a sign to those who are in the House of God that they will be raised in a covenantal household.......If that child getting baptized grows up to believe in believers' baptism and wants then to get baptized then do it. It is a SIGN......Another problem with believers' baptism for children is it actually points more to free will thinking. What, only when "THEY CHOOSE" Jesus by themselves THEN they can get baptized? When is that right age? When Jesus was preaching and telling people to believe and be baptized, he was speaking to adults or to people of all ages sometimes. The same with John the Baptist. Yes then if you believed then be baptized........and so on. I like this teaching from White, but I totally understand the teaching of Sproul on this subject. Sorry for this long comment. I love the friendship of Sproul and MacArthur, and as we all know they differed on this topic a lot.

@@subjecttochristwe don’t rely on gotcha passages to affirm paedobaptism but the teachings of the Bible from start to finish. Children were included in Old Covenant dealings with God, and we believe the promises of God continue unless abdicated in the New. No where does the NT teach that children are now excluded from the covenant. That would’ve been absolutely shocking to the Jews, yet we hear no pushback at all. “And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. I think there are other topics that are more important to discuss as Christians. I was born Lutheran, was baptized as an infant, became a strict baptist and denounced my infant baptism and was baptized and today I'm sure both ways work. Even though I prefer baptism upon confession of faith I think the Bible does not explicitly forbids infant baptism and consider it today as a legitimate way of getting baptized. With regard to Jesus 'coming up out of the water' there is surely a question cf 40 min-ish. As a simple point of geography any one stepping out of a river must come up out of the water because the water flows at the lowest point whether it is only ankle deep or above head height. I admit that Jesus underwent more than simple sprinkling but he could have been standing or kneeling with John pouring water over Him from a bowl. Full immersion is not necessarily implied.

Agreed. Not only that, but Acts 8:38-39 describes both the baptiser (Philip) and baptisee (Ethiopian eunuch) going down and coming up out of the water - which leads to the question, if 'to go down' or 'come up out of' water means to be immersed in baptism... were both these men being simultaneously immersed in baptism or just the one?

@@gordonreed2736 Thought so. Now I'm not a Greek or Hebrew student but as I understand it the verb Baptizo is used in the Septuagint to translate the Hebrew word for washing or cleansing the various basins and implements used at the altar between sacrifices, and indeed for the washing of the priests themselves. But the Jews did not wash in still water as we would have in a basin or bath or baptistry. For them the water had to be flowing or 'living' ie poured over the item being cleansed: the item was not immersed in the water. Therefore whatever the verb means in the Greek (and does it ALWAYS mean immersed or just usually mean immersed) when used to translate the Hebrew there is clearly some lee-way and therefore the question MUST arise does it actually mean immersed in the NT? And how does that fit with Baptism being essentially a sacrament arising out of Jewish, not Greek, ritual cleansing?

Have you repented of your sins and made Jesus Lord of your life? If yes, you're sealed by the Holy Spirit, Ephesians 1:13. You have been baptized by the Holy Spirit. Water baptism is a profession of your faith in Jesus Christ to your faith community. It doesn't save you. It's part of your life-long sanctification process. ♥

Phillip wasn't self baptizing but they both "came up out of" the water. So I don't think you can use the Greek word to prove immersion. And what does it mean for Jesus fulfilling all righteousness? Is it that being The Priest, He had to be sprinkled with water as the old testament required for priest?

@Psalm 2:8-9 What is your issue with race and ethnicity? Scripture (which is God breathed 2 Timothy 3:16-17) clearly states Gal 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. Gal 3:27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Gal 3:29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise. Galatians, which was written to Gentiles shows that God does not recognize one who is not Jewish, nor does He place one in higher place above another. In fact, he says those who come to know God, are all baptized into the body of Christ. Male, female, Jew, Gentile, black, white, yellow, and red. God is not concerned with pigment, nor lineage. He is concerned about the condition of the individual's soul. And graciously places us all in the body together. All people came from the same blood Acts 17:26, of which Christ died for all. I feel sorry for you psalms since you cannot see past the "social justice gospel" and the separate path to God without Christ.

@juliegoldsmith6831
@juliegoldsmith6831 3 года назад
@Psalm 2:8-9 And the color or the skin or ethnicity have nothing to do with being righteous and bold or wicked. Again, the Scriptures disagree with your race baiting gospel. No, Paul was not schizo just because you do not understand and practice eiesgesis when reading the Scriptures. Here are some verses that you really need to take a good look at. 2 Corinthians 1:21-22, Ephesians 1:13-14, Ephesians 4:30, and Romans chp 8 which shows that those who receive the indwelling Holy Spirit is the evidence that one is saved. He seals the individual (denoting ownership) and promised to all who will make Christ their Master. Acts 10 shows Gentiles receiving the Holy Spirit, with Peter admitting that the vision of the great sheet was indeed about GOD ACCEPTING THE GENTILES AND MAKING THEM CLEAN which Jews considered unclean in chp 11. Acts 11:17 clearly shows it to be the same thing as Pentecost with Peter declaring that God had given it to the Gentiles and granted Gentiles repentance THAT LEADS TO LIFE. Life here in this context is declared to be eternal life. Titus 3:4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, Tit 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, Tit 3:6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, Tit 3:7 so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Notice, Paul clearly speaks to Titus who is a Gentile with inclusion of being washed and regenerated by the Holy Spirit and included Christ as our (yours, mine, all in the church). The church in Crete (full of gentiles were included in this). Tit 2:11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, Tit 2:12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and wo rldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, Tit 2:13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, Tit 2:14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.He says grace of God has appeared to BRING SALVATION TO ALL MEN (nowhere does he say to all Jews, or does he deny Gentiles). The majority of Paul's letters are written to Gentile churches admitting them to be saved individuals. No my friend. Paul is not being schizo, it is your preconceived racist ideas that you cannot get past. Your inability to understand Paul is not the benchmark of proper exegesis nor how we understand the message of the Glorious Gospel of Christ.
@juliegoldsmith6831
@juliegoldsmith6831 3 года назад
@Psalm 2:8-9 Woo boy. You really have no idea what you are talking about my friend. I have clearly posted New Testament Scripture that does not agree with your position. The copy paste job you refer to is my copying Scripture, not my answers. Yet I notice you just post your take on a verse, yet, no actual context or exegesis is given. Without taking proper context into consideration,, you can come up with any doctrine, which appears is what you have done. For example, you mention Romans 9:20-23 you say that God created you people to be destroyed. Nope, Paul does not say that at all. In fact, you totally missed verse 23 which you included----Rom 9:23 And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory, Notice, He says in the verses "What if", but then he goes to enduring with patience then so He could show mercy to these vessel, then in verse 24-----Rom 9:24 even us, whom He also called, not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles. Notice Paul includes those who are Gentiles WITH US (Paul and others who he is writing to who were Gentiles). Notice he says NOT JEWS ONLY, BUT ALSO AMONG GENTILES. Which goes along with his preaching to the people in Rome in Act 28:28 "Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will also listen." Paul does not agree with your racist doctrine my friend. The Scriptures have disproved your belief. Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Notice, it says For God so love the world (the entirety of people). It does not say For God so loved only the Jews. Take care and I hope you see your error. I'll be praying for you. Good night.

😢 How can a baby who is baptized be working? Baptism is 100% by God's grace, not by what we do. Seems to me when you baptized a person after they have "decided to believe and surrender to God's Lordship over their life," that is a work. Baptism is something 100% God's work. Call it baptismal regeneration if you want because that's what He promises in His word when you take water and the word. It creates new life. Yes, we can walk away from that new life by not believing what God’s word says about Himself. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God, and it's a gift, so no one will boast. We are born again by God's gracious act, not ours or our surrendering. That kind of faith has no fear because perfect love cast out all fear. 😂 What a glorious savior we have!!!

Ecclesiastes 3:15: “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away.” The “natural man” cannot grasp that, for to him reality is based only on the evidence of the senses. The man of reason could justify the verse’s end, saying if it has any meaning then the writer must mean recurrence. The sun comes every day and the moon completes its cycle and the seasons come and go. If we took a picture of the universe today, the scientists can compute how long it will take to return to this point in the picture. So the intellectual man could justify the verse; but that is not what is meant, for it is addressed not to the man of reason or the man of sense, but to the man of Imagination. What is it all about? “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been, and God seeks what has been driven away.”

@@samuelhaas4328 i am asking this question for people to find the contextual meaning of baptism. I believe the book of acts has to be considered as a transitional record because of the power given to apostles to confirm the word was from God; made known by the power demonstrated in apostles transitioning unto the faith we put into the Word ( gospel/ message)to be saved and literally come to Jesus. Basically, we have the Word now and the apostles have went onto be with the Lord. Not separating the first fruits of the Holy Spirit with those that receive their message is where many are seeking signs and wonders rather than satisfied in Jesus alone according to Gods Word. Gods Word is all the evidence you need. A repentance to believe God unto salvation and then a continual repentance of sin living a life in Christ overcoming by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony of who and what our faith is in.

You must know the prophecy in Genesis and given to Abraham to understand this is those in Christ Jesus, not a biological related heirs. Jesus was that seed of woman and 42 generations after Abraham stepped down out of heaven into the womb of a virgin promised to marry Joseph . Matthew 1:1-17 begins the Gospel, "A record of the origin of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham: Abraham begot Isaac, ..." and continues on until "... Jacob begot Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. God made a covenant with Abraham as He did Moses. We that are n Christ Jesus are of the Abrahamic covenant with God. Our faith and belief in God imputes to us righteousness. God said He would provide the sacrifice. God sent His only begotten Son and we must believe God to believe in Jesus. Genesis 3:13-15 King James Version 13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. 14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. The covenant between Abraham and God consisted of three separate parts: the promised land. the promise of the descendants. the promise of blessing and redemption to his seed that eventually ended at Jesus. Those that are in Christ are heirs of the seed of Abraham.

The entire chp of 1 Cor 15 speaks on the necessity of the resurrection of Christ. If He be dead, you are most miserable and totally lost. Paul speaks of those who baptize for the dead, yet, he does not endorse or correct the actual act, but, those who do it without belief of the resurrection. 1Co 15:29 Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? Notice, Paul does not stand with those who practice it by saying "what shall THEY do which are baptized for the dead", but then, we see Paul in verse 30 1Co 15:30 And why stand WE in jeopardy every hour? Notice the distinction between "they" and "we"? The entire chp deals with the resurrection and how important it is. Christ not only promised that He would rise from the grave, and that He would go to prepare us a place and come back and raise the dead. His resurrection shows that He proved that He wasn't just talking. He is who He says He is. Without the resurrection of Christ, He was just a man who lied. If He could not raise Himself, then He definitely cannot raise us out of our graves.

@Scribeintheink 1.. John the Baptist was prior to the New covenant established with Christ resurrection and ascension and sending of His Holy Spirit 2. I'm afraid the apostle Peter disagrees with you as does Paul and Jesus. Read here please. 1 Peter 3:18-22 [18] For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. [19] After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits- [20] to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, [21] and this water symbolizes BAPTISM THAT NOW SAVES YOU also-not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. IT SAVES YOU BY THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST, [22] who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand-with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him. Romans 6:1-4 NIV [1] What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? [2] By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? [3] Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? [4] We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Paul confirms Peter, Baptism is a death, burial, and resurrection with Christ Jesus. And here Paul explains it more in Colossians 2:9-12 NIV [9] For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, [10] and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. [11] In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ, [12] having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. When does that Spiritual circumcision happen? Putting off the whole body of flesh? Paul said for you where buried with him in...Baptism. So you see if you want to hold to your false doctrine that permits your sins and does not acknowledge that Jesus died to free you from your sin nature... then you will die in your sins. Matthew 7:21-23 NIV [21] “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. [22] Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ [23] Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ All who continue in there evil will not inherit the Kingdom of God

When you talking about baptist and reformed churches, you should add that "in the US". Because for example in Hungary the Reformed (Calvinist) Church is the 2nd biggest denomination with 11.61% of the population belongs there (on paper), while the Baptist Church is a smaller church with 0.18%. Reformed church practices infant baptism just like the catholics. So many of the people who attends there do it as a religious practice, and don't have a personal relationship with Christ, in this area it is really similar to the Catholic church. There are pastors (both men and women can be pastors) who are not born again, they just do it as an occupation, maybe because their father and grand-father were reformed pastors. (There are great exceptions with great pastors and great lively reformed churches.) If you are in the reformed church and get baptized (in the way how you practice it), you will be most likely kicked out. In baptist churches, before you would be baptized, you need to go through a teaching series about the bases of the Faith, the Biblical teachings, in small groups lead by the pastor or 1 on 1 with the pastor (depend on how many people wants to get baptized) and during this proces pastors can get to know each person batter, and only born again christians will be baptized (as much as humanly possible to say who is really a born again).

Yeshua Ha Massiach (Jesus The Messiah). Who is He? " For unto us a Child is born. Unto us a Son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. " Isaiah 9 : 6 Acts Chapter 4 verse 12: " There is no salvation through anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to the human race by which we are to be saved." Born of a virgin, Mary. Matthew Chapter 1 verse 20: " behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him (Joseph), in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for that (Christ)which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. Jesus, the Christ, is God's word made flesh. Jesus is Jehovah God's (The Creator's) Word made into flesh. 1 John chapter 5 verse 7: " For there are three that bear a record in heaven, The Father, The Word, and the Holy Spirit: and these three are one." John chapter 1 verse 1: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John chapter 1 verse 14: " And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." John chapter 1 verse 10: " He was in the world, and the world knew Him not." Hebrews chapter 4 verse 12: " For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." How beautiful and awesome is God's Word, who is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, magnificent in all His glory, is He.Amen! John's Vision Of Christ Seated On His Throne In Heaven: Revelation chapter 4 verse 2 to 3: " Immediately, I (John), was in the Spirit, and behold a throne sat in Heaven, and One sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance, and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald." Why did Christ Jesus came and sacrificed His precious life for sinners like us? Christ (God's Word made into flesh), came because through flesh (Adam's flesh) sin entered the world, and then because of sin death entered the whole earth. Through flesh(Jesus Christ's flesh), the earth will be saved, sin is destroyed, and the curse of death shall be broken, death and the grave shall be cast into hell. Christ, who is God's Word made into flesh, sacrificed His life for us. He was crucified for our sins and transgressions. Christ died, and on the third day He resurrected in the flesh, conquering death and the grave. Now, Christ is seated in Heaven, at the right hand of Power(God). Through Christ's sacrifice we gain Salvation through God's abundant mercy and grace. We are reconciled and recompensed back to God, through the shed blood of His beloved Son Christ Jesus. John chapter 3 verse 16: " For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that who ever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life." Romans chapter 5 verse 8: " But God demonstrates His love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Christ came to undo the sin and eternal death brought upon the world through the sin of Adam. Death in Adam, Life In Christ: Romans chapter 5 verse 19: " For as by one man's disobedience(Adam), many were made sinners, so also by one Man's (Jesus)obedience, many will be made righteous." Romans chapter 5 verse 18: " Therefore, as through one man's (Adam's) offense judgement came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even through one Man's (Christ's) righteous act, the free gift came to all men, resulting in the justification of life." Romans chapter 5 verse 17: " For if by the one man's offense(Adam's offense), death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in the life through the One(Jesus Christ). Romans chapter 5 verse 12: " Therefore, just as through one man (Adam)sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned." Romans chapter 5 verse 21: " "So that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Do you now see that through Adam, sin and death entered the world, so that is why Christ Jesus came to give life, and give it more abundantly? Yes Christ came to give eternal life through Salvation. Adam's flesh brought sin, death, destruction, and condemnation. 1 Corinthians 15 : 21-22, "For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ, all shall be made alive." Christ's sacrifice, the crucifixtion of His flesh, brings reconciliation of sins, life, resurrection, eternal life, salvation Christ is coming back again, not as a sacrificial lamb. He is coming back as a roaring, waring lion, to destroy sin, death, and the grave once and for all. Amen! Halleluyah! Revelation chapter 22 verse 12 to 13: " And behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. " Now do you see friends, Why Christ Jesus is so so Important for our Salvation? Yes. Now, do you understand why there is only one way to God, and that is only through Christ Jesus,only? Yes. Christ is Salvation. Christ is our Lord and Saviour. Christ is the only way to God. Christ is the only Mediator between God and men(us humans). God loves us so much, He does not want anyone to perish in hell. God wants all sinners to be saved. That is why He sent His Word to save the world. God's Word became flesh, and dwelt among us to save us. Will you accept Christ and be saved? Romans chapter 6 verse 23: " For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." John Chapter 3 verse 16: " For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that who ever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." Salvation is free! Christ already paid the price, all you have to do is recieve salvation through acceptance of Jesus Christ, Yeshua Ha Massiach. So who is Christ? He is The Word Of God. He is the Son of God. He is God. He is the image of the unseen God. He is the Alpha and Omega. He is the beginning and the end. He is the Great I Am. He is Emmanuel. He is The Christ. He is The Messiah. He is The Creator. He is our Lord and Saviour. He is our Mediator. He is the Lion and the Lamb. He is Salvation. He is the way, the truth, and life. Amen! I love you Lord! God created the heavens and the earth with His spoken Word. Did you know that Jesus is that Word, through which all things were created? Yes. John chapter 14 verse 6: " Jesus said to him," I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Colassians chapter 1 verse 15 to 16: He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him." John chapter 1 verse 1 to 4: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men." I hope that you know Christ, and understand Christ better now,to the glory of God. Amen! Christ is for all who will receive Him. Please pray this prayer with me. Lord Jesus, thank You for dying for me. Please come into my heart. I accept You as my Lord and Savor. You are the Son of God. You are the Word of God. You are God. You are The Great I Am, the One who Was, who Is, and who Is To Come. I believe that You sacrificed Your life for me and died, and on the third day, You awoke, and raised up Your body in the flesh. I believe You are coming back in the flesh (in Your resurrected body). I believe Salvation is only through You. Forgive me Lord of my sins. I renounce and repent of all my sins, past and present, this day. I will sin no more, with Your help dear Lord, now and forever more. Please Lord: keep me in Your bossom. Heal me Oh Lord, help me. Be near me, and never let me go. Write my name in Your Book of Life. Prepare a place for me in Your Father's House. Please hear my prayer dear God, in Jesus mighty name, I pray. Amen! The real gift of PROPHECY - not "preaching" - was active in Paul, also. "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that AFTER my departing shall grievous wolves ENTER IN among you, not sparing the flock. Also, OF YOUR OWN SELVES shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to WARN every one night and day with tears." @Mic1904
@Mic1904 3 года назад
@@turkwelsch None of that makes any consistent sense. (1) Baptism was part of the law of Moses? Baptism (at least, that definition of Christian baptism found throughout the New Testament) is non-existent under the Law of Moses (yes, of course, I accept there are other ritual washings). Where is it in Moses' Law? (2) If baptism is a part of the Law of Moses that is done away with, since we are under the Grace in the New Covenant, why did Christ commission it AFTER his death and resurrection and why did the Apostles do so? Why is an element of the Law of Moses only rearing its head during Jesus final earthly moments and then exists only through Acts and part of the Epistles? (3) Saying you'll 'leave me to figure out which of Jesus commands would still be for us today', isn't answering the question. I asked *you* how *you* determine it? When he said repent and believe, was that the Law of Moses or Grace? When he commanded or preached anything to anyone, was it the Law of Moses, or Grace? How can anything that Jesus taught be considered under Grace, if his very last commission to his followers on earth (baptism) was part of the Law of Moses? (4) Actually reading all of Paul's writings (and his actions in Acts) reveals that Paul already assumes the believers he is speaking to are already baptised, and bases important aspects of his Epistles on this fact. Converts through Paul's preaching are recorded as baptised as well. ""Many of the Corinthians hearing Paul believed and were baptized." Corinth being the place that the Corinthians verse you quoted was written to... Literally in the same passage, he's just talked about the people he's baptised (household of Stephanas), but that due to the quaralling and vain boasting of people using the status of their baptiser (such as an Apostle) as an arrogant badge of honor like a 'celebrity', he's glad to leave baptism to others and not give further rise to a cult of 'celebrity baptisms' from himself. He's glad and content that, rather, God has sent him to preach the Gospel, not be a celebrity baptiser. This is... literally right there on the page you just quoted from.

Consider this, the thief knew enough about Jesus that he was innocent of any crime. His faith, he called him Lord, and his knowledge about the kingdom. The thief most definitely heard some preaching either by John or Jesus. He may have or not been baptized under John's baptism. To say he was or was not is speculation. While Jesus walked this earth He had all authority to forgive sins directly. As for Christs baptism under the NT? No, the thief was not baptized under Christ's Baptism. For Jesus did not give the commission his apostles to preach the gospel and baptize until 40 days after he ressurected. By this time the thief had been dead 43 days. To qualify for Christs baptism one has to first believe the gospel (DBR), the thieves witnessed the death of Jesus, not his burial nor ressurection. One can not use the thief on the cross to dismiss baptism as a need for salvation.

I don't think I have never heard it preached, but I like to think that as John's Baptismal water flowed all over Jesus it found absolutely no sin anywhere, to be cleansed from, unlike all others whom John baptised. Therefore righteousness is fulfilled as he was shown to be the absolutely perfect sacrificial Lamb, then the heavens opened etc.

I think this comment is probably in wrong place? The old testament was being fulfilled, as the vehicle of Jesus work was through the Jews. After all, Salvation is of the Jews. Water has high degree of symbolism, even at the cross when Jesus body expelled both blood and water.

I don’t agree that Baptists and Presbyterians cannot be elders in a church together. Where is the biblical standard for that?
@Mic1904
@Mic1904 3 года назад
I don't see the practical means by which, (a) a Presbyterian who believes their Baptist brethren to be in sin for not performing their God-given duty to present their children for the covenant sign of God, and (b) a Baptist who believes their Presbyterian brethren to be in sin for outright neglecting to be baptized at all (by their definition), can join together in a church, when both believe that baptism is a significant part of defining WHAT and WHO the visible Church even is. That, and the fact that confessional Presbyterians and confessional Baptists take an oath to uphold different Confessions of Faith (WCF and LBC1689) - an oath is no small thing, and it's questionable how you can be holding to that oath to uphold your confession if you permit into eldership those who have taken an oath to uphold something contradictory. Can we work together as brethren? Yes, not just 'can', but should! Worship together? In a number of contexts - certainly. Pray together? Surely. Love one another? By God's command, absolutely. But if we can't agree on an important principle of who and what defines what a member of the *visible* Church ought to be, how can you uphold and defend such an important doctrine as an elder alongside fellow office bearers who are defending and upholding a different definition? It's a nice thought, and there is much space for us all to work together in Christian love, and we will all worship together as servants in the same heaven, by the same throne of the same King. But in practical terms, our doctrine doesn't allow us to be office bearers of the same congregations/churches, as I see it. God bless.

So, is baby baptism adding to God’s Word? The order of things is believe, follow in obedience God’s Word. I was baptized in my 30s even though I was a believer way before. It was not offered to me or explained that it was an obedience of faith to God in front of others. The Bible is very clear we don’t change his word in adding to it or taking away from it? Rev 22:18-19 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. ?

He was talking to Israel to know the promise of the Messiah is here. Jesus, the Son of God is-here that was prophesied to save men from their sins. Jesus paid the debt of all sins. Til that time-they lived under the condemnation of-the law and sacrificed animals for their sins. Jesus came in grace and truth. The law being perfect could only condemn people. Jesus took the sin of the world upon Him, this love changes hearts and minds. He was obedient in the sacrifice til death and remained dead for three days. God then resurrected Jesus from the dead approving our victory in Him over sin and death . The perfect flesh He lived in was sacrificed by Jesus given His life in this flesh, His blood to cleanse us from all unrighteousness and sin. God provided the last sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. His only begotten Son that never sinned and offered Himself a willing perfect sacrifice that never sinned in His flesh. They were operating under the covenant God made with Moses. John was telling them to change their mind( repent) because the kingdom of Heaven( Jesus ). Is here. They thought the Messiah would come as a lion and destroy Rome their oppressor. They were not looking for the Messiah to come as a sacrificial Lamb of God first. Jesus will return as a Lion in judgment to all those that do-not receive Him and live in Him. Repent is to turn from what you think which is unbelief and sin, and turn to God according to what He says and believe God. He said to believe in Jesus to save you from your sins and give you peace with God. Siwe admit we have sinned against God and proclaim Jesus is our Lord and Savior. We confess our sins and He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We then being made righteous get baptized in the name of Jesus as witness and testimony of us receiving His death , burial, and resurrection as our only righteousness to God. Then we walk according to His Spirit and put off sin by overcoming through the blood of the Lamb. We then love one another as He has loved us. In love and sacrifice. In grace and truth. Forgiving one another as He has forgiven us. We are given a Spirit of love, power, and-a sound mind. We are sealed with the Holy Spirit of God. His Spirit-is in love in truth and deed. We do not operate according to the lust of flesh, lust of eyes, and pride of self. We operate according GodsWord and His love found in Jesus only. This is a process of maturing being converted as a child in faith in God to believe in Jesus to overcome the world.

There were over 3000 souls that were baptized for the forgiveness of sins in water after hearing the first gospel sermon. All through the book of Acts people were being baptized by the Apostles and Evangelicals. One thief on the cross was saved by Christ before the new covenant was in effect yet people would rather be saved like the thief and not by what is written in the book of Acts! No one can prove that the thief wasn’t baptized because the Bible doesn’t say whether he was or not. It’s strictly an assumption without biblical proof. John the Baptist baptized many during the life of the thief on the cross! It amazes me how people want to follow their own rules on salvation instead of what is written!

So what really happened is that Peter, Paul and a few other guys were watching Mary Magdalene and her friends take their weekly baths in the river. After they left they saw Jesus and John up river and they were playing some kind of naked dunking game. So Peter says, "Hey, what are you guys doing?" Jesus and John were caught off guard so John says, "Oh... um.... I'm dunking Jesus in the river like that story we heard in school about Achilles. You know, make him immortal." So the guys kinda say, "Oh, ok, whatever." As they are walking away Peter says, "Those two are always playing grab ass somewhere while the rest of us men are spying on the ladies." Then Paul says, "That John guy is Batshit Crazy, and now he's playing some naked dunking game with Jesus. I mean.... not that there's anything wrong with that." So from then on they referred to John as "John the Batshit". Move ahead a few centuries, several different language translations of the story, and "Batshit" became "Baptist". So basically baptism is based on some Baptist, aka "Batshit", naked guys dunking each other in a river.
