I miss the feeling of security I get when listening to fmr president Obama. We need an intelligent, caring human to run our country in the future. There’s so much more to be done to repair the damage caused by tfg. President Biden has done a good job, but there’s so much more to do. We have to vote in a Democratic leader in the midterms, and in 2024, or we will lose our country to fascism.
I miss him too. I remember when let's go 45 won i just relaxed with sadness until 45 took over and never had a good night's sleep when he was in office. Now, with President Biden i sleep well again.
I love Obama but he didn't do enough to encourage grass roots growth in the Democratic Party. His mother's family is from Kansas. Did he do anything to help any Kansan Democrats???
@@yvonneplant9434 He was hindered at every turn by Republicans. They fought him tooth and nail while disrespecting him and his family. Good ‘ol boy kkklub. Don’t you remember? He was so gracious we never heard just how bad it was, but I can imagine. Everything he did get accomplished was tempered, stunted, or outright blocked by corporate money. He had to represent all our interests as well. He had compassion for those who hated him. More christian-like behavior than those who proclaimed it publicly, but were/are the criminals behind the scenes.
He frames each issue in an overarching theme, both measured and fact-based. In this way, Obama lowers the temperature, even if it's a criticism. Example: the helpful comment Obama made about the recent Supreme Court decisions--that they were "less concerned about privacy and personal freedoms".
Obama is a real people person, of all ages…it’s really a shame that he couldn’t run once again ! So, intelligent, educated, reasonable, likable man ! He always was happy, when he was in the White House, and had so much energy …..Yet, he is still, such a happy guy today, as well…….Miss him…

My blood pressure goes down just seeing and listening to President Obama. Thank you so much for interviewing him. Love him as a great leader and wonderful man.
I'm 71 and got my first lesson in politics from my Dad when I was in 6th grade. He said if you vote for a Republican you are voting for rich people's interests if you vote for a Democrat you are voting for the rest of us. I guess nothing has changed since 1964.
All of those little guys; academia, the press, Hollywood and the entertainment industry, the Arts, increasingly corporate America, big Pharma, and the Military Industrial Complex; it’s laughable to think this is still the Democratic Party of Harry Truman.

Freedom and Liberty only works when you have an authority that constantly looks down and snuffs out anyone who exerts their own individual rights that is at the expense of others. Everyone can make a difference. Bobby Kennedy said this when he was head of justice dept. . democracy depends on perpistation. Knowledge that is shared, gives us decucations and possible solutions.
My father was a lifelong Republican who grew up in Texas and came from a traditionally conservative family. He read Obama's book when he was in his late 60's before that first presidential election and voted Democrat for the first time ever. And he voted for Obama again before he passed away. He felt that Obama was more in touch with what really mattered to Americans. I wish more people would approach politics the way he did. I learned a lot from my dad about having an open mind.
The fact that your father read Obama's book at all suggests that he was more open minded and intellectual then certain aspects of his background might suggest.
@@chansetwo For most voters in America I think political affiliation was secondary to ideology which wasn't a forced set of variables that lined up on either side of a defined line between red or blue. While each party certainly had it's fanatics, it didn't permeate our daily lives the way it seems to now. Politics now is used mostly as a social media tool for "engagement" that's measured in clicks per minute. It's a market that's designed to get users angry, then provide comfort among, what they want you to believe, are like minded individuals. The next thing you know, you think Democrats are mutilating kids in children's hospitals. So there used to be a level of respect I think on the part of politicians, to know that we don't want this in our faces every minute of every day. They knew it wasn't good for us, it wasn't good for them and it wasn't good for America. But desperation does strange things to people who don't have the fortitude or servitude to hold public office. Primaries used to weed them out.
I wish that also, with all my heart. An EDUCATED citizenry is the single thing that holds a democracy together, and not feeding disinformation to the electorate helps. 😑😔😒
What a testimonial to the fact life changes quickly. President Obama is of course the polar opposite to tfg. It is unbelievably sad for our country that so many do not recognize the difference in these two men as it relates to their individual lives. Obama inspires life and hope, tfg inspires hate and cruelty.
I really miss President Barack Obama! He was one of the best President's we've ever had. He passed legislation in 2014 to help smaller oil companies to be able to compete with the larger oil corporations which helped bring a surplus in our energy independence that yielded the great economy that Trump inherited and took credit for. I wish only the best for President Obama, his beautiful wife, Michelle and their two beautiful daughters. Thanks for all you have done to make our country so much better and for all you are currently doing. A man of true integrity.
You've lost your mind if you think Obama left a great economy. The economy crashed right as his presidency began and never recovered... unless you count the rigged stock market which always seem to go up no matter how badly things are going everywhere else. He spent his entire presidency doing his best to pass the TPP a document that removes national sovereignty and creates an international corporate hegemony.
How can anyone listen to the thoughtful commentary from a Harvard-educated scholar like this who was the President and then watch Trump and take him seriously? Trump sounds like a kindergartener in comparison. I actually learn something every time I hear Obama speak. He calms me down and makes me think everything is not lost. You will always be my President!
So true! Never thought about it but I to have learned from him and still do! That’s what I want in a president! Someone I can inspire to, learn from, and be proud of!
Me for one! Let me ask you this... are you not smart enough to see him talk circles, promote socialism, which cannot come without violence? Can you not see his lies? How about Tulsis Gabbard bailing from the Dems because during his presidency he didn't speak to her, or the middle class, and hell I only made it 13:00! How about former W.H. Press Secrtary calling out Dems, like Pelosi on Meet the Press? How about Candace Owens new documentary debunking BLM and them collecting $80 million in just one taxable year... where the hell did that money go? It didn't go to help the masses or the commniity! Obama contradicted himself in less than 13 minutes! Clinton was the Poster Child who started this mess and Obama felt the need to out do Billy boy and now we have Biden who has done nothing but destroyed this country with high inflation, record number of illegal immigration, bailing on our own people in Afgahstan not to mention leaving billions behind in military hardware, destroyed our energy sector, giving nearly $100 billion to Ukraine which unless Biden de-escalates things, it will result in Putin using nucs! I eft the party in 1992 under Clinton like Tulsi did and I sure in the hell hope Obama reviews these comments as like Tulsi and so many others, he bailed on us! Obama created the biggest racial divde since the days of salvery! And I truly thought it could get worse than Clinton. Then along came Obama with his false promises and lies. Then just when I thought Obama will go down in history as the worst president in history, along comes Biden to out do Obama! I would bet the majority of those commenting here are young people who are still ignorant and confused. That is what they {the Obamas of gov't do] target the young people and brainwash you into believing this and his {Obama's] B.S! He is probably colse to being a billionaire by now if he is not already off of the backs and pockets of the middle class!

I agree. We need to step up and let our voices and choices be heard by voting. I am a baby boomer but my greatest worry is about how the direction our country is going will be detrimental to the generations behind mine by suppressing rights and opportunities.
Maybe they should give people something to vote for, not something to vote against. You can only hear “this is the most important election of our lifetime” so many times before it starts not to mean anything. Stop trying to guilt voters. Politics in Washington is a rigged game with 2 parties working on their own behalf, not the peoples behalf.
Well, Obama is correct in stating that democracy is the most important thing, because without a democracy, voting would indeed be pointless. If the person currently in office can decide to overturn and/or dismiss the votes when they're not in his/her favor, then that would indeed make voting a very pointless act.

This man is quietly sensibly urging to vote, because, as i've heard elsewhere recently (thanks Beau), whatever you do on a small or larger scale matters. 'Too cool to vote' because you're progressive is voluntarily stepping out onto the sidelines. If you want the American experiment to continue, you jump right in
I’ve never heard a REAL progressive ever say they were “too cool to vote”. I have heard that they have voted time and time again only to be disappointed with the politics of Washington, the corruption, the broken promises, the lack of accountability, the lack of actually doing anything meaningful for the American people and the fact that no matter who is voted into office, nothing changes. It’s only so many times that you can be told “you have to vote this time because this is the most important election of your lifetime” before they start just sitting the elections out. Give them something to vote for instead of something to vote against and you’ll get a lot more people out to vote.

You'll see it again and again when someone poses him with a question that COULD be taken to the dark side, he swerves the temptation for negativity and re-alters the track onto a more productive and positive side. His charisma and emotional intelligence just oozes. Trump is literally the exact opposite in every respect.
So wise he received the nobel peace price before doing anything and after that kill almost a million civilians. But his voice is so cool and of course he is black. Actually he is mixed
"In April, 2009, the recently inaugurated Obama said that legislation to codify abortion rights into federal law "is not the highest legislative priority." That legislation was the Freedom of Choice Act, which would have effectively enshrined Roe v. Wade into law. In 2007, then Senator Obama told Planned Parenthood signing that law would be "the first thing I'd do as president." For a brief period during the 111th Congress, Democrats had a filibuster-proof 60 seat majority in the Senate when independents who caucus with the Democrats are taken into account but the Freedom of Choice Act never became law."
Was so nice to hear a former POTUS speak in full sentences and convey complete thoughts! The fact that we went from this man to that orange clown still amazes me today!
@@The_Tiffster And the dam riots were caused by Democrats. They encouraged it and paid their way out of jail so they could continue looting, burning ,injuring and killing people.
That's because unlike modern democracies created in the 20th century the USA's constitution written by White, rich, land and slave owners and the in order to get the 14th state and others to join the Union, had to compromise with the slave owning southern Democrats of that time and created the INSANE Electoral College. The reason it is insane is because smaller states (in population) already have more of an equal representation as every state regardless of population gets TWO US Senators. With the 60 vote filibuster those states with ow populations having two US Senators is a good enough offset of being fairly represented in the Federal Government. But because our very antiquated Constitution in decades and decades back in time, woman could not vote, nor could blacks until 1965! in the beginning WE THE PEOPLE did not elect our US Senators; the Congress did! Also, in the beginning only male land owners could vote. If the powers that be and the voters in all 50 states continue voting against their own interests with rising cost of living with stagnant wages while the wealthy hold almost the entire wealth of our country of 300+ million people, then the USA is DOOMED to fail. And history shows that nation state lasted forever. The Roman Empire fell after 800 years. Egypt ruled the world before the Romans and that lasted about 2,000 years. The USA will bot even come close to Rome's 800 year reign as the world leader if "we the people" don't vote in their (financial) interests and forget about bigotry and hatred. Looking at the earth from space, it is one big globe, but we humans decide to draw dividing lines around continents. Surely if an advanced extraterrestrial race found the Earth and looked down on the way we humans "run" our planet, assuming they don't consider us humans as FOOD, they'd turn their spaceship around and with other extraterrestrial civilizations place a "blockade" around the Earth and our solar system.
As I’m listening to this wonderful discussion with an amazing President, I’m also filling out my mail in ballot for the November 8th election. I’ve instilled the importance of voting to my children just like my mother did to me. I was home on leave in 1976 before heading to my next duty station in Okinawa while serving in the Army. Mom took me to voters services to register to vote where I voted absentee ballot for Jimmy Carter who then became my Commander-in-Chief.
Made my day to see our greatest “great society” President since LBJ speaking wise words in his gentle way! He’s that one uncle you look up to & run to when you know you’re in big trouble with your parents, so he can spit some truths and get you ready to face the music. ❤
He can also bomb the shit outta children in Syria and refuse to actually participate in any productive and progressive democratic policies. This man did fr almost nothing in 8 years blamed republicans for stopping his moves and then just quit on the American people once he left office.

@@lhoward9593 i'd say that he did a pitiful job at that, too. serious question: do you know what he actually did to that end? i only ask because it is so far removed from a good response to the crisis
@@cl8804 Well, i sent a long answer, which seems to have vanished. I will slowly send some articles in response. My recollection of that time was that we were teetering on the edge of another Great Depression. The Great Recession was preferable, although still bad for the world.
Brilliant man….Obama ….his hands were tied so much in office , but he is still influential in government. Hopefully the American people get the point ….economy good for everyone ….give Biden credit due✅

@@harley2die4 if you understand politics you’d know that the Ukraine/Russia war and Covid Pandemic has been a major contributor to our debt. These are things that are out of our control and require massive spending. Under trump the national debt increased by 36% in 4 years largely due to pandemic. Joe Biden so far has had an increase of of 12.62%… Don’t bag a President just by debt but look into what caused the increases such as natural disasters, wars etc. Bag him after he leaves office and consider the causes. fyi debt has been increasing since 1930. 1929 was the last time a president has decreased it.
Man this guy gets it. President Obama delivered when he was in, and he delivers now. Its just a shame he can't run again. I mean he could if he wanted, but after all the crap the Republicans put him through, I can understand he would not want to be the man again. But his voice, his presence, its so calm and reassuring. When we had all those mass shootings, he was very helpful with calming the victims families! This was a great podcast!

Watched this interview today after its posting 4mos ago. President Obama's comments are timeless and speaks to the priorities of our society and the idea of a more perfect union. Thank you, Pod Save America.
While I didn't agree with some things President Obama did, I trust this man, no President has gotten everything right , but I respect and appreciate President Obama for the President he was. Thank you Sir.

If trump had a court nominee in his final year of office what would you do? “I’D fill it”- Mitch, no neck,Moscow, McConnell It’s a shame all the racism from that era was overshadowed by the stupidity of people not realizing why those things were happening to a partisan Black president.
Listening Canadian here. I'm frightened with the current U.S. political state. I miss President Obama, his truth, knowledge, love of his country is and always has been apparent. Thank you for this interview. Wishing you all the best in the upcoming midterms.
The best president of my lifetime. Spanky was a complete embarrassment to our country. He continues to prove what a con man can do to the highly uneducated.
In Latin America we’ve had enough of dictatorships, military juntas, etc. Learn from people that have lived through all of this and we’re not going back.
I believe Beto O'Rourke embodies much of what President Obama is saying about how to relate, and be respectful, across the board, even where there is political or policy disagreement.
