The camera stance for France was so intimate, in fact, that she was able to fistbump the camera man at the end of the performance :) (source: behind the scenes)
The song is inspired by old scool French chansons. They are most of the time deep and very passionate. I wouldnt call the song peacefull. The passion builds through out te song. French took this style back to this era and did it well!! Love from Holland.
What we call "staging" is key to the performance. It is executed by the host nation in this case The Netherlands but each contestant comes with their own detailed plan how their act needs to be staged and presented to the viewers at home. The main problem is that the acts are all live so the stage needs to be build-up and cleared in a matter of only a couple of minutes before the next act performs. It is basically 3 (2 semi's and a final) three hour super bowl halftime shows with a nerve-racking vote and points procedure at the end. Eurovision is a wacky world on it's own. I've seen several Americans react to snippets of it but that won't give you the full experience. That's like watching the all-star dunk contest and than saying what you thought about the NBA season. I am glad you guys already decided to go for the full performances instead of the snippets.
The song is a typical "chanson à texte" basically the songs meaning: It's her giving all herself to the audience in hope the they love her because she can't. To me it's a sad song.
But at the end the speeding up of the tempo I think symbolizes her being free of people's opinion and putting her heart and spirit into everything. It's so beautiful it was my favourite 100%.
@@Muffin-sj7yh yes and no, it’s old school way to sing for french songs, it’s even call the “Brel crescendo” as it used to be Jacques Brel speciality (listen “Amsterdam” or “valse à mille temps”). For me too the text is quite depressing, it’s an artist desperately calling for the public attention, with no self confidence. It’s like the final claim, the ultimate speech of this artist. Voilà is almost impossible to translate but in this song it could be something like “there it is” or “look at this”.
@@quentinbobin2549 Wow! It's so beautiful I and I wish I could sing it a half as expressively as a native French person could. I really admire how it is so unique and emotional.

Pleas also check out Switzerland, Iceland and Ukraine! The were all in the top five this year and they’re all very different from each other but also all amazing.
Hi brothers, I don't have the words but you 2 get it! Thank you for your positive reaction to this beautiful French song. pleasure to watch you enjoy good music.
My favourite song this year at Eurovision was from Portugal: "Love is on my side" by The Black Mamba. Love that you guys are getting into Eurovision as well, it's an interesting event. Great reaction!
@@clarissetit3300 thank you for the short translation. Appreciate it. France and Italian sounds always so good even if i dont understand a word. Haha 😘👍😂
@@clarissetit3300 the only france words i know are the ones how we dutch also have in our language like parasol portemonnee trotior accent Vitesse and toilet haha. Napoleon whas a ruller here to. Bon jour madam chemapelle jacco valkenburg 🙈🙈☺
@@jaccovalkenburg79vdaal Haha yes, they are pretty similar, but the orthograph is not the same : Parasol, porte-monnaie, trotoir, accent, vitesse, toilette. Pretty funny how so many nationalities find eachother on a simple video. By the way : "Bonjour je m'appelle jacco" ;D
seconding this! and if you end up liking it, i recommend looking up his friday jury performance just by yourselves because it includes a crazy note. i saw a clip of it this weekeend and i still havent stopped thinking about it.
@Craig _ the importance of ‘politics’ at eurovision is massively overblown lmao, especially towards a country like switzerland. idk what youre implying, but they won with the juries because his vocal abilities were the best. its not that deep.
I would love to see you guys react to the top 10 of the Grand Final of Eurovision. The French singer was greatly inspirerend by the great Belgian & French singers of the last century. Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel & Charles Aznavour. If you like to know or hear from them, look for these songs: Edith Piaf - padam...padam Jacques Brel - Amsterdam Charles Aznavour - La Bohème
You should also check out Greece. The contestant this year is was born and lives in the Netherlands, but her parents are Greek so Greece wanted her to represent Greece. And btw she is 18 years old and a very beautiful girl. She was asked to represent them last year too but well it got canceled cause of covid but luckily for her she was asked to return for this year’s contest. Her song of this year is called ‘Last Dance’ and last year’s is called ‘Superg!rl’.
Excellence. Reminiscent of the great songs of old we are slowly forgetting. You should do Switzerland and Finland. They killed it too. Specially Switzerland (3rd place)
Since you've reacted to The top 2 you could just keep going down the rankings until you feel like stopping, there were really good songs this year! I loved all of them on top 9 and also some that placed lower.
All the contestants give it their all. They have been working on their performances for a year and some of them already for 1 year and than another as Eurovision got cancelled and they had to go back to the drawing board. This year I think no country should have gotten 0 points from either the jury or televote. I had my personal favorites of course but I don't think any of them were bad. For example Ukraine for me is a typical headache song, but I can totally understand why people would vote for it.
Like so many others, I would also like to suggest you watch the entries of Switzerland, Iceland and Ukraine. And more, if you feel like it, there were a lot of nice entries in the contest this year!
You should try a legend singer from France Edith Piaf. I can't speak French, but she is stil amazing. Also I like to see your reaction on Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg with Jetaime Moine Plus, I was playing this song on YT during my Holiday in Thailand and special the American and English were very surprised by this song.
Hi you two brothers, i missed your comments. Still of course subscribed to your channel but RU-vid algorithms s*cks! Voila was amazing, not everyone gets it but you do 👍🏽.
Cool, you're actually checking out the Eurovision Song Contest. Nice. Barbara was actually one of the favorites to win. France always has a little of bit of problems with their staging and that kind of happened this year too.
@@bornwithoutconsentobviously Of course, I was just giving my opinion. I personally think the camera angles at the end fit perfectly with the increased tempo of the song, but you can have your own opinion on that.
And now there are angry italians that are insulting Barbara under her video because they think that the drug polemic with their group come from France while she said a few days ago that she didn't care of this kind of things and that even if she didn't win it was a benidiction to be at the rank she had and the french delegation said that they will never put a reclamation
Sounds completely normal to me. Tons of people are negative about the song their country sends to the songfestival 😁. I'm Dutch. Imagine my surprise others liked Arcade so much. I hated it, it later grew on me but no it never will be amongst my favourites😉.
It was such a LOW & DUMB move to accuse Måneskin, taking cocaine at the WORLDWIDE conference, just because France could not thake the shame, on loosing against Italy.
Lorena Croci , you're Italian ? 😄 One journalist told that about Maneskin but we French don't give a f*** if Italy won. Switzerland deserves to win for me , he was better :)
