A tribute I made for actress Barbara Shelley, who passed away on January 4th, 2021.
I met Barbara, the first lady of British horror/Hammer Films, many moons ago through a mutual friend (to whom I am eternally grateful). We spent a precious afternoon together watching her classic films and talking through her illustrious career. I will never forget her humour, warmth, wit and storytelling prowess. So sad to have lost such a true icon of British horror, and a lifelong idol. Rest in power and glory dear Barbara, your legacy lives on in these wonderful films.

The Gorgon (1964)
Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966)
Rasputin the Mad Monk (1966)
Quatermass and the Pit (1967)
Music: Funeral in Carpathia by James Bernard (from Dracula: Prince of Darkness)

A bit like Lee and Cushing, she never gave a bad performance; often, she gave a performance that could raise an otherwise poor film. That said, there are a few good ones in that collection - I especially like 'Quatermass and the Pit'

What a wonderful tribute to one of the original scream queens and Hammer legend. So sad to hear of her passing earlier this year. The Hammer Horror films were part of my childhood. You were so fortunate to have met her. RIP Barbara Shelley.

Fantastic tribute! My favourite is Quatermass and the Pit! She brought a balanced integrity to the film, coupled with her beautiful face... She is the reason I've seen the film so many times. Thank you!

This makes me very sad. I didn't know of her passing, until coming across this video (7/17/2021). She is my all time favorite Hammer actress. I will say a prayer tonight for her. Thank you for a fine tribute to a fine woman.
