Barbarian can't use their rage ability while wearing HEAVY armor, so light and medium armor are fine. (PHB 48) so I don't see why this character couldn't wear medium armor.

"You can't have your cake and eat it too" might be better if it said something like "keep" instead of "have." It just means that you can either eat the cake now or you can hang onto it for later, but you can't do both at the same time.

Great weapon fighting style only affects the weapon dice, not smite/other sources

Best armor: Half plate. Since you CAN WEAR MEDIUM ARMOR.

Paladin's Smite is a class ability that uses spell slots, but technically isn't a spell cause of the wording. Rage and other effects specifically say "you can't cast spells" but Divine Smite never says it is a spell in its description just that it uses spell slots as a resource (probably for easy progression balancing)

also I'm pretty sure its just for the Divine smite, as the other smites are spells paladins pick up

You can wear light andmedium armor and still rage. Just not heavy

Really cool concept! If I were building this character I would probably beline right to paladin 5 to get extra attack, then go 2 levels of barbarian, then switch back to paladin for the rest. ofmy character's career. Getting extra attack is such a big deal for martials that IDK if I could live without it any later than necessary. Go for a heavy weapon and pick up great weapon master at some point and combo'd wiith reckless attack you're pretty much golden. As for the question on why smite works while raging, it's the same reason why a moon druid/barbarian can still consume their spell slots to heal. You're not casting a spell, it's just using an ability that happens to use a spell slot as its resource. Things like the Shadar-Kai's magical teleport also work while raging even though it might seem a little counterintuitive for the same reason.

Most of the DnD games I've been a player in rarely get past 8th level, so losing high level abilities aren't really an issue for me.

Love the content!! About to go into a campaign as a shifter ancestral guardian barbarian/grave domain cleric and would love for you to do a video for barbarian/cleric multi class! Know it’s not the most “OP” multi class but something people don’t mention about this is for a DM that likes having 6-8 battles per long rest.. rages don’t last and this allows versatility as well as something barbarians lack the most- outside of combat utility.. just want your unfiltered thoughts!!

Good luck! Thats a LOT of fights between long rests. The ancestral guardian will help in those big fights.
