Deus is a lighter and abstracted civ building game, one in which you will build our your card rows, cascading your cards, activating the played card and all cards underneath it, layering bonus after bonus as you go. You'll slowly eliminate barbarians or build temples, eventually triggering end game and seeing who had the best engine.

This is the kind of game I love. Not overproduced. Lots of depth to decisions. Nice and tight at 2 and 3. Fast. I actually find these games so good I easily pass on plenty of "similar" looking games as I'd prefer to play the ones I already enjoy. So yeah rest of my collection is massive KS games... XD but yeah Deus, Elysium, Res Arcana, Roll for the Galaxy, 51st State, etc. are what I consider tight and fun.

I love Deus. The expansion really improved the game for me, so I am sad that we only got the one.

I was obsessed with this game at one point. Played 100s of games of it on Boitejeux. Was ranked #1 at one point. Love this game! Learning to manipulate the deck and board can lead to some really high level. I was able to end some two-player matches in 6-8 moves.

Good to see Deux getting some attention. A favourite of mine, even though I'm rubbish at it. The Egypt expansion is interesting too in how it changes aspects of the game to keep it fresh. Never had an issue with the little rules.

Alex! Would be curious about your take on Beyond the sun. A rating of 8.8 on BGG, hanging around in the hotness and just quietly chilling...seems very interesting. Its on my want to play list, would like your perspective since our tastes align.

I had to play this in a competition. So to practice I have played it over 50 times. I really like it. Now however I can’t play it because my skill level is higher than anyone else in my group so no one will play it with me. It’s a serious thing that mismatched ability can ruin competitive games.

Ouch. And yes, it's 100% a serious thing, it's why I don't play app games.
