Defa Lucy definitely trying something new. I remember back in the day they only have boring blonde Barbie like chicks. This new line is amazing. I hope they make black dolls in their more expensive doll line (the one that goes in bigger box with pet). Plus size doll would’ve been nice to see. But also maybe they make handsome male dolls? 👀
Happy to see more people review these. The quality and detail on these dolls is kinda mindblowing tbh - the extra accessories, bend and snap knees, different head sculpts. Defa Lucy be beating Barbie to a pulp. Also just subscribed ;)
These dolls look exactly like I had imagined Dream Ella dolls before they turned out to be lazy and ugly. Defa dolls are very pretty and nice quality for the price. Isn't Mattel the only company that uses pixelated screening? Shame on them.
This is my first time hearing about this line of dolls and I am loving them! Love the blue haired one the best. I might have to track one down for my channel to review. Thanks for showing these girls to us!
Mexican here, let me talk to you about Brittany: the first doll that you reviewed in this video has a head mold that they introduced last year, up until 2022 te quality was seemingly awful and they used to use only one headmold that was a badly printed generation girl knock off. Last year they introduced what I like to call The Brittany extra line because it was clearly inspired by Barbie extra (they even have the same cartoonish pets) and that's when they had a HUGE leap in quality, added new headmolds even though they used the same as the first girl with the exact same screening for the full line up and some of them have the worst polypropylene hair (yes even worse than Barbie's) but they seem to be improving, as far as diversity goes this is the very first year they introduce different skin complexions (up until 2022 i could count with one hand the Brittany's with a not-blonde hair color)
Thanks for the context. It does illustrate the usefulness of competition for consumers, even if it has to come from other countries. I am puzzled by you saying there was no diversity but the doll was sold in Mexico. That is sad if kids with darker features still get a light-featured doll as their only option, especially when the doll is the minority compared to the population.
Thank you for showcasing these dolls. I like them and their outfits but im too afraid to buy anything on Temu. So, i will just enjoy watching your reviews and if you restyle these.
While i disagree that bratz is dead lmao, (small point lmao) i think barbie will be here but diversity will only get you so far, why does mattel give us diversity but not quality as soon as they give us diversity. Barbie should be the standard, i feel like if youre gonna give us different body types, you should also stick with fashions that fit those types. Otherwise they should drop it. Fashionistas needs a rebrand overall, thwy have their base $5 dolls, so making fashionistas their mid range fashion dolls then making looks their step before collector lines is best. I just feel bad for those designers that have to desigb with that painfully awful budget they give. If anything, less is more, like, instead of 30 dolls in one line of fashionustas, give 6 that are higher quality and focused. Like broad kens, make curvy fashions for curvy girls etc, because the one size fashions are really killing the idea of barbie tbh. She may not be going anywhere but she also wont be picked up.
This video was the final push I needed to order some of these dolls. The upgraded heads came out of nowhere. I hope they see a sales boost and get a regular distributor in the US. It looks like the face paint is also of a more stable quality than Fresh and Naturalistas.
I saw them on Temu and the blonde girl, (bright) red head girl, Asian looking with blue hair, and dark skin with purple hair girls are giving me major Jem and Holograms vibes, and I'm here for it.
Very interesting review. I am impressed with this line. For fun I ordered two from Temu. They are quite nice and come with a lot more than current day fashionistas. These dolls are not bad for what you get. I am done with Barbie fashionistas. I will only focus on Looks and some signature dolls if it has to be Mattel.
I think these are pretty. Their clothes are better made than a lot of Barbie dolls. Her outfits are so terrible now with that thin, stiff plasticky material Mattel tends to use. I wonder though how they Lucy would do on lead or cadmium tests.
i like that they have click knees and use nylon for the hair! sadly thats about it lol but they are nice dolls overall and i can see the appeal. hopefully the competition will make barbara realize shes gotta step it up in the quality department
Thanks! I enjoyed seeing these Defa Lucy dolls. I have an adult health care doll with two doll babies from this company. The Defa Lucy dolls are sold in some discount stores here in Philadelphia. Or they were. I need to check - I haven't done any doll shopping for a while.
So I used to learn Mandarin in Middle and High School. The company that makes these dolls is pronounced like "Shee-ahng" 😊 I'm obsessed with Temu btw. They have all kinds of dolls on there, some cheaper some better quality 😂 Cute to look at though! I might have to check these dolls out.
Heyo - It’s so funny because I was turned onto these dolls about a year ago, I was watching YT and the person was looking at fashion dolls on the shelves in another country. I was searching everywhere and then Temu dropped the whole entire collection. I have all the ones you bought and the more “ extra “ looking ones as well . I have had fun with the clothes and the dolls are really beautiful in my opinion. I’m keeping them on the body they came with. It’s dolls like this that bring out my creativity because they have so many things that are good about them. There are other variations that are yoga dolls, and stuff like that - those dolls have crazy looking faces- so I’m passing on those .
Thank you for showing this new line of Barbie type dolls. I love the different face sculpts and the bend and click knees. The fashion ideas are pretty cute and knowing they can fit on some 60’s Barbies. Love the green and pink floral dress! Thank you for keeping up with everything new.
I usually can’t stand male doll collectors videos, I don’t know why as I’m fine with men collecting but yours was different. You also hit on all the points I didn’t know I needed that are really useful. New sub. 🙂
I'm the opposite I usually prefer male doll collector content because I find their usually more direct and to the point when discussing dolls whereas female creators often chat about random unrelated stuff when I'm literally just there to hear about the doll. Myfroggystuff is the queen tho I love her.
This is one of the most beautiful budget dolls of our time. I bought "Defa Lucy 8494" in an orange suit with a pet chicken. But I have a question. Who knows how to take off high boots-sandals from a doll's feet?? I'm trying to pull it down, but I'm afraid I'll break something.
I actually really love these! I remember last year when you or someone else posted some pictures of the articulated Britanny dolls and Ive been wanting them every since! Ordered 3 on Shein 2 weeks ago, and I need to go pick them up at the post office and report back how they look. I ordered the same one you have with the christie color scheme, and from the articulated line I got the one with caramel hair and the one with minty hair! If i like them, next time I will get the articulated red head (someone did a photoshoot of her and she looked like a pantene ad, like so good) and the blonde one you have here. I really adore the face of the christie looking one, reminds me of mizi doll faces
The first two dolls are quite cute, specially the outfits. I can see a hue of that blue (matching the Christie like girl's earrings) in the explosion pattern from the top piece.
They aren't officially available in the United States, which is Mattel's major business demographic. Like, I can walk to the nearest Target and buy a Barbie. I'm not buying an off-brand doll from Temu and waiting around for it to show up. I don't think Mattel is worried.
The first ones face sculpt reminds me of one of the mizi JHD fashion doll heads the blue hair doll reminds me of jojo siwa doll and the blonde girl reminds me of a sparkle girls dork
I've been seeing these dolls in a lot of my doll groups and I am interested in getting some of them. I am just not sure about Temu. I've heard lots of mixed reviews so I'll wait until I get a prepaid card before making an order to be on the safe side. I don't like that the fresh dolls all seem to have the same face but different skin/hair colors and textures. I was surprised and happy to see they made a white or what appears to be a white doll. I think it'll help then find a wider audience and encourage some cross over for their demographics. I would not mind if they kept to their core focus, but having a few diverse dolls in the mix would not hurt.
Thanks for the review. These and the slightly more articulate versions definitely seem like an nice alternative to the Fashionista and Extra lines. Really wish there were more guy alternatives but still happy to see more doll options.
I got the blonde in the green dress and the curly hair girl in the orange two-piece look as well! Unfortunately, my blonde girl didn’t come with her lip purse. 😢
Yeah I have ordered some of those too. Can't wait to review them myself. They look so good on other people's reviews. The blue earrings call back to the middle of the flowers on her outfit, for the first one.
Those are really nice, but they each have something that makes them look a little cheap. The blonde's hair tone looks cheap, the blue hair doesn't look full enough, and the AA hair just doesn't look rich. The pale eye makeup kinda gives that impression too, but way better than bold pastels. Definitely going to look for some! People talking about Fashionistas being $8: where? On clearance? In US I think they release at $10.99
I snagged 4 of these ladies. I bought the 2 AA, the blonde, and the redhead. I did get the light blue hair one from the articulated series. I'm very happy with my purchase. I rebodied the curly hair beauty. The purple hair is a stunner for sure. I have to rob someone to give her a new body. These are so worth it. I'm definitely in the I like these better than the last Fashionistas offering.
Barbie doesn’t have competition. She is what most people think of as a “doll” on earth. She’s her own competition. No other doll brand could make a 1.5 billion dollar movie. Let’s not be delusional. Does Mattel need to step up? Yes. Do they have to? No.
They look like decent dolls, but the price seems a bit high to me, since they do have a slightly cheaper look to them. Also wish they had elbow joints. How is the hair rooting? That’s usually the deal breaker for me, I don’t like dolls with bald spots 😅 Thanks for this video, I’d never heard of these dolls before.
I wouldn't say it's her best competition yet haha. The quality is just way too poor. Especially when a Barbie Fashionista is the same price. Maybe if they update the face paint designs it could stand a chance, but still, it doesn't offer anything that Mattel does 10X better.
Yeah these dolls are cute but even when don'tcallmedoll reviewed them I was like... you can definitely still tell they're knockoff dolls lol. I just wish barbie would make the fashionistas or a midrange doll (like barbie extra) with cute clothes design like this
is it just me? Those face sculpts look extremely asian. even in unconventional colour palettes 4 stereotypical asians, they still look so much like east-asians (pehaps mixed) fitting in those beauty standards. also i adore that eyeshadow on the deep skin girl. more screenings should have undereye makeup!
tbh i thought they looked more white...the packaging art looks asian but the closer you look at them they dont look asian like at all expecially with the nose shapes
Boooo Mattel bendable legs on Barbie knock off C Mon step up your game. I do not collect these dolls but the quality is good although they do not have different face molds they do look nice
Black people come in all skin tones facial features i hate when people like to pigeon hole the black look as afro centric not all black people have afros again they have all hair textures and colors! Not all black prople have larger lips and noses either!
yes but also representing afrocentric isnt a probblem either? like thats something thats unique to most black people so ofc its more assoiated with blk ppl like i dont understand the probblem should we not represent tradtionally black features??
@@powwow522 that's just elitism speaking through you. Collecting bjd's, pullips and scale figures never made me feel icky about playline dolls. To me they reflect changing trends in doll-design much better than collector dolls.
@@powwow522 DollThighs Channel did an excellent video on this subject titled The SHAME of Doll Collecting. It's a valid topic worth checking out as you seem to be projecting your own inner shame onto adult doll collectors who don't stay within the confines of collecting societies approved "ADULT" dolls/figures.
