Barbie Crystal Fantasy and Barbie Pink #2 Collectors Dolls Worth $100? 

For the price of these, you can get some really beautiful vintage Barbies. The second in the Pink collection is way better than the first. She's beautiful.

Totally agree about the amethyst doll, the budget clearly went on those lights and not the doll. I get it, it's pretty but that money shouldn't have been wasted on some lights. Also I'm getting really fed up of the heel on the shoes being bent, why is that a thing. It seems to be happening to all of the newer collectable Barbie's that I get. They need to use a stronger material imo. The pink doll I love. Also can't wait to see what you think about the 3rd pink collection doll. She's defo a step down from this second doll based off of the leaked images that's for sure.

I remember when companies did a lot of gemstone series with jewlery. For me, with the amythist being my stone as well. I don't like it. The dress is pretty, but most people when a display has box shape with exposed wires, that can get thrown or mistook as broken or trash. Her look as a whole. Isn't it for me. She could of been sold in stores for less. I like the shoes, but the amount of work you payed for. She is very understated for the amount of money and effort. The other one. With the dress lined, her jewlery, the ruffles, fabric, and statement. She isn't my tea. But defiantly gorgeous, and i can see the outfit pattern is absolutely intricate, with so much appeal.

Loose wires!!!! No way you’d be able to get away with that on a play line. It’s absurd to have collectors pay $100 and have sloppy details like this. I mean, how much would it have cost to have the wires covered in plastic? It’s a Crystal Fantasy Barbie and the light up crystals and crystal necklace were both done cheaply. The theme is a fail for me.

My mind also went to the current prices of other doll lines, like RH and LOL, that are doing some really impressive things with fashions, materials, design at such a lower price - I don’t collect Barbie, so I don’t have an emotional connection to them - but totally respect if you do - but I am very much taken aback by the the disparity between the promise of the rendering on the packaging and the actual doll. Those rendering are elegant, sophisticated, fashion forward, there’s a definite attitude and magical quality to them, but the actual doll is a let down. It just doesn’t go beyond the expected, there doesn’t seem to be passionate choices made, it all seems so stiff and safe. And the Pink series - that price is getting dangerously close to Integrity Doll prices, and those dolls are the ultimate in detail, fashion, and total sophistication, I would recommend jumping to that level, that’s when your mind gets blown.

Melanie , here’s a great tip for keeping everything that’s on your doll in place: mini glue dots. I use them to keep earrings in place, necklaces in place, clothing, shoes, holding a purse, apply to a hat or collar to hold a broach in place…….there are so many ways to use these clear, tiny, sticky dots. I use them almost every time I dress a doll so everything looks exactly how I want it to look. They’re 3/16” in diameter and you can tear them to make it even smaller.

if you want a good birthstone doll, the birthstone beauties from 2006 have pretty lace dresses, lined boleros, a cute puppy, AND plastic jewelry that looks metal! they were pink label back then so they can still be found at pretty decent prices secondhand. you make a great point about how you get less bang for your barbie buck as the years go on... as much as i don't like the mga dolls, their fashions are clearly the best in the play doll scene

The plastic amethyst light up thingy is so play line. Let's be honest, collectors don't really need that at this price point. Some budget had to be allocated to that (because i'm sure it wasn't free to make) and it's like: 'why not allocate that to a metal necklace instead of a string one?' I don't really get it but hey maybe that's why I don't work for Mattel... "I'm not a glove connoisseur" 😂😂

I am comparing the amethyst doll with the LOL NYC Queen doll and her stand. She also has a light gimmick, but it is really well integrated into the stand and it is a whole concept. With the amethyst doll, the lighted stones look a bit like an afterthought.

So for $100+, you get slightly better quality than a Holiday Barbie. The price tag is literally just because they're limited edition . . . Maybe it's because I hate both pink and the ruffled style of dress, but I like the Amethyst doll the best of the two. We don't see Barbie on purple very often, which is sad because Barbie looks great in purple.

Both dolls are gorgeous, specially the pink one but Barbie collector’s are too pricey, they could’ve give the same for 20$ less but the fact that is such a limited edition makes the price go up which in my book is a lose lose scenario

Honestly, I LOVE the amethyst doll, but agree that $100 is way too much. Look at the Rainbow High collectors dolls, for instance. Even the gigantic Amaya was only $100 at Christmas, and she's down to around $60, now, and she's HUGE! Comes with actual jewelry for the collector and an extra outfit and everything, and they're well-made! Like REALLY, Mattel. And look at Lily Cheng! FUCKIN' GORGEOUS!!! I don't like red or orange or gold-themes because I'm strangely color-sensitive and everything needs to be in cool shades for my brain to be happy, but I WANT HER SO BAD! And she's got multiple outfits and accessories and she's not $100!

Not sure if this has been commented on yet, the wrinkled ribbon around Pink Collection #2 's waist, is not part of the dress. Its intention is to secure the doll's body to the back packaging. This is similar to the packaging of the BFMC Silkstone dolls, those dolls were are fastened in that way. For aesthetic purposes it should be unknotted and carefully removed.

Mattel needs to stop with the high prices, the dolls are gorgeous but at the same time they are always lacking something (cheap plastic shoes).

Both dolls are beautiful, however I don't feel either one is worth the big price tag. The dresses are also very pretty but still don't make the price worth it

I totally agree with you about the crystal fantasy barbie. I have her and I want them all, and like you will probably get them all, but a price around 75.00 would be more appropriate. I stopped buying Disney collector dolls because of the price. They are all 130.00, and while they are made really well, I feel like its just too expensive.

So glad you took the plunge for us. Hard no on the Crystal doll! I’d love the pinks but justifying it, ughh. I mean RH Lilly is $79. Right? The RH box has to cost more to manufacture than either of these entire dolls with packaging. Pink doll is perfection though.

I'm guessing you will add some poster putty to get that necklace to behave. I feel you on some of the elements that could be done better, its a shame the attention of detail was missed here.

I love Amethyst, but she looks unfinished to me. Her dress reminds me of the Goddess of Spring Barbie from the Goddesses series (Beauty, Wisdom, Spring). And those three were gorgeous when they came out in 2000s, I could recall the excitement and inner demand lol. When I am comparing this new one with those three, I cannot allow myself to pay for 100 for her 🤣 I think she is lovely but may be for younger collectors. Thank you for the review. Am I the only one who has had horrible luck with the quality of rainbow high. My kiddo loves them. We have maybe 10 and each doll has had multiple quality control issues :( I do agree though for 100-120 I’d like more

At the moment, this doll is AUD$250! If I compare it to the Rainbow High collectors editions or the new Cleopatra LOL doll for $200, I’d prefer RH or LOL.

I had no idea this first doll is limited. It was available in many toy shops in Bulgaria until soon. I saw her many times and I didn't like her. She was more expensive than 100 dollars here and she is just too expensive. She is too pale with white hair and I dislike the face sculpt. The second doll is definitely more beautiful and accesories are prettier.

in my country dolls are even more expensive, so, for me those dolls ain´t worth it, i think, maybe they are to confident about the fact that many people neither it´s going to take that doll out of the box, so why botter on better quality? i prefer to buy like 5 better quality dolls with those 100 dollars ; )

The Amethyst doll is meh. I adore the dress on the new Barbie Pink doll, it is absolutely gorgeous. And although I think the actual doll is very pretty, she honestly just looks like a Fashionista to me. I don't know if it is the face mold or the shade of pink of her lips but she just looks a cheap playline Fashionista redressed in a beautiful, expensive dress.

I agree with you regarding the price. That said, they don't really excite me even if they were priced lower.

The pink collection is not worth it to buy because they just used a fashionista playline face sculpt. I miss those years that barbie collections used different sculpt than playline.

i agree with most of what you said in this video! the new pink doll is stunning, her dress totally has an 80s vibe which i just love ❤ i also like the touches of sparkle in the bodice and accessories and her face is very cute to me. as for the crystal doll, those blocks really do belong with something like elsa from frozen 🤭 the dress is fine but the accessories cheapen the look!

love the crystal concept but i don't think it is worth $100. i personally wouldn't even pay $50 for it the pink one you can tell the fabric is really n ice and there's a lot of small details, so i could understand a collector paying for that one.

The Pink series Barbie is great I agree about the silhouette being gorgeous. Amethyst Barbie I agree so okay but nothing I’m wild about. The watercolor look of the dress is best part agree, otherwise it’s kind of boring. Perhaps in the grand scheme of the whole gemstone line, Amethyst is on the more subtle end of the looks?…why they’d start the series with that doll then idk…but I hope there’s more drama and excitement in the other dolls. Perhaps in that case, when all dolls are together, Amethyst will have a look we can appreciate more in comparison?…but as for right now, I wouldn’t be sold on the line.

I totally agree about the Amethyst Barbie, and I bought her anyway. They should have made the crystals into a stand or base that was meant to be removed. They also are poorly designed. No opening to replace the batteries and the batteries come loose, which is why so many of them come "not working." I was able to smack the battery into place without prying it open. A simple removable panel would have solved this. SMH.

I think they both are pretty dolls, but not for the price. I collect both vintage and Barbie Collectible dolls. I haven’t bought a Barbie collector doll is so so long. They leave me underwhelmed especially for the prices. I didn’t even get the Holiday doll. I think the Barbie Collector dolls were in their heyday in the early to mid 2000’s, which is when I got most of mine. So much better quality and design IMO.

The Amethyst light up stones as you presented them would make for good photographs. I agree about the packing. As having bought her THE DAY she came out (it's my birthstone) I wish her box would have been the same quality as the Barbie Pink. I do think she's lovely. I wish the gauntlets and crown also were made of real amethyst. The Barbie Pink doll IS Barbie. It reminds me of the glamourous Superstar mold days. It's chic 80's haute couture.

Maybe you and Kaiden (I think you've mentioned him being into crafts) could find a way to transfer the amethyst charm from the string to a better necklace? It looks like it has a jump ring at the top, so you should in theory be able to hang it on anything

😱 OMG, really? Cardboard? Why they didn't place a real platform holding those crystals? They didn't think that somebody could remove the doll from the box? Mattel really has to learn from MGA, which did a lot of dolls like this one (for example Crystal Star), but they gave them a real display for place the doll. This is so ugly, with that visible cable. For that price they could do better (and BTW, in Italy costs 124 €). They could have used a real metallic chain for the pendant. The same thing is happening with the Disney Store limited edition dolls. The second one is better, but they also could do better, for that price. I would like to buy the crystal one, but on sale.

They put more money in the packaging than the dolls. 2 weeks, you really had to be frustrated. I would say overpriced.

I stopped buying new Barbie collector dolls because i just don't think they're worth 100$ anymore. They used to make beautiful collectors dolls in the past, even till recently, think about the Faraway forest dolls... But now it's simply not worth the price tag. I wouldn't even pay 50$ for them anymore. (To be honest, i did buy a collector's doll, not too long ago- dia de muertos 2021. She was beautiful, and cost 75$)

I so agree with you about your Pink Coklection "s9kstone" doll! She is so cheap looking she looks like a simple pink box Barbie! The shoes ARE a chap plastic, her hair is sparse, and her face does not have the more tradition slanted eyes pointing sideways. She does not look glamorous at all~a far cry from the previous Silkstobes. It;s called SHRINKFLACTION. Size, quantily and/ or quality is getting worse and worse , Meanwhile prices goes up while everything else goees down. Follow the Money! Once again the consummer is being ripped off.

The Crystal Fantasy is not even close to 100$. Has nothing special and the quality is far from the price. Any MGA RH has more to offer for less than 40$. If you collect Barbies from 2006 before - u will realize they are 100% more detailed, not even speaking about the face paint and accessories. For a paper stand for the crystal lights? A shame, for real - a shame. Not worth it. Barbie sells a brand, not quality, design or interesting dolls. The pink collection is better, but again - not 125$, it's too much.

The Crystal Fantasy doll seems like a play line doll and no way worth $100!! And they quality just isn’t there! And if you pay $125 for a “ collector” doll you shouldn’t have box hair to contend with. Come on Mattel!

Would you say the Crystal Fantasy Barbie has real saran hair or a cheaper hair material? Also, I would definitely prefer no "gimmicky" lights and more details put into the doll. I got one of her and the light stand didn't even light, so I returned her. I also wish these dolls were articulated and know many other collectors feel the same "exact" way. for me the Amethyst doll has a more collector looking face and makeup and playline looking dress where as the pink doll has a playline face and collector quality dress 🤷‍♀

I do like the concept for the amethyst doll but I don’t like her necklace it looks cheap and fake really, I would have thought there’d be more amethyst pieces her bracelets and crown could have been made from them instead of plastic. I do like the crystal lights.her dress is beautiful too. I agree that the box is not working for display. I don’t think she appears to be worth the price sadly. I wish Mattel and Barbie would stop putting all the jiggers in the head,ect. There are plenty of other ways that secure the doll in the packaging especially if these dolls are considered higher than playline dolls! Even if the end result does affect your enjoyment of said doll it definitely will affect your unboxing or initial experience as well as create waste and extra plastic that is not necessary.

That is one finely cut amethyst I mean the facets on it and it’s just a chip! A more polished uncut amethyst would be better and left more money for other details

I have some quality control issues with Mattel as of late. My last Barbie purchase was the second series Looks, the Ken with the long hair (so handsome!) and I was happy with the price point and the doll. My issue is with these collectors dolls. I know things are expensive. I get it. But I also know that they could do so much better for less and make customers happy! Case in point, a couple years ago I got the X-Men Storm doll and I LOVE her! Her costume is comics accurate, her face up is gorgeous, and she’s articulated. I got her for 75.00. I keep her in box because she looks amazing in it. For 25.00 less than the Amethyst doll, I got a strikingly beautiful collector’s piece. I just feel that there’s some bad decisions being made at Mattel right now. Yeah, The Big C did a lot of damage in many industries. But it also seems like an excuse. “Look at this amazing doll! She’s limited! Exclusive! Wow!” But she doesn’t impress. I don’t look at her and think “a hundred bucks? That’s doable!” Remember the Star Wars dolls? I have the Darth Vader girl and every inch of that doll is money! Where’s the creativity? I don’t want light up gimmicks. I don’t want “she’s got a real crystals!” Amethyst isn’t expensive. I used to make jewelry, it’s easy to find. I just miss when you would look at a doll and go “ooh! I’m saving up for that one!” The pink doll, she’s gorgeous! Probably worth the 125.00 price. But I’m waiting for something to knock my socks off. Sorry for the rant.
