BOMPA A childs rendition of Grandpa, I gave mine this name, I was his first Grand baby and we shared the same Birthday, so Bompa stuck like a doublet Opal. Always Great to see you Don.

Wonderful to see you again 😁. Great news about your first grandchild. Both my grandfathers were gone before I burst onto the scene. I was however very close to my maternal grandmother. I used to call her granny grunt. I still miss her even now all these years hence. Do you really want to know what a wanker is? I have a friend who’s grandson couldn’t say pop pop, but it always came out Popop. Another friend who’s son couldn’t say the German or at least Germanic for Grandpa. It came out Oumpa. Sounded really cute coming out of a 3 year old’s mouth. I’m an opal addict from years ago. I was just starting to learn about opals from a friend who had been hunting, buying, and cutting opals and ammolites. When he passed away. Fast forward 12 years - I’ve gotten interested in opals again now that I’m retired. I’m finding that there is so much more to opals but searching You Tube is helping me learn more. Thanks for you help, and sharing your kitties.

For grandpa names I like Pop Pop, but if there’s German in your family go with Opa (also close to opal). That Barbie opal looks really unique. One comment or called it pressed ham, I immediately thought of bacon 🥓. Super happy to see a new video drop, also good to see Shelia finally talk to us. 😂 That loaf of opal bread at 6:26 was amazing. You’ve really got a museum quality collection of gemstones.

Grats on being a Grandpa. My parents/grandparents are all passed on but I called my mother's step-dad Poppy.................he liked it. He said grandpa or papaw made him feel old. My grandmother was Mammaw, she threatened to backhand me if I ever called her anything else.............lol:-)

That sounds like an exciting discovery! Opalized wood can be quite fascinating. The play of color in opals is typically caused by the diffraction of light as it passes through microscopic silica spheres within the opal. The size and arrangement of these spheres affect the colors you see. For opalized wood to display flash or play of color, it often depends on the quality of the opal, the arrangement of the silica spheres, and the thickness of the opal layer. Opals with a well-ordered structure of spheres that are relatively uniform in size tend to display more vivid flashes of color. Additionally, the angle of the light source and the observer can also influence the appearance of play of color in opals. Keep in mind that opal mining and collecting can be both a science and an art, and each piece of opal is unique. Continue your exploration and digging in Utah, and you may come across even more stunning opal specimens in the future!

My kiddoes always called their grandpa Papaw (Pa with the short a-sound like in at, and then paw just like a kitties paw), but there is also Pops or as others have suggested, Opa. When i remember my granddad, i can see him standing at his workbench doing some woodwork and teaching me how to work with my hands and tools. I think they gonna get the same experience. It was one of my best moments in life. If i try to translate it from german in english, it would be something like "Grampy or Gramps".

Knap a little arrowhead out of that red opal from Warm Springs I sent! Also, I now have a LOT of Biggs jasper sitting here...like...200+ lbs easy - I went to the old original source and hammered a bunch out. It's perfect knapping material: solid, few fractures, large sized, rings like a bell when struck...some even contains common opal. Woot

Finally, I reached your latest video 🙂 It was awesome to see opals from around the world in your videos that are just as beautiful as our Aussie ones. I'll never be able to afford any of them, but after the loss of my husband, Bill, at the end of August, I (and Bill's urn) am off to Lightning Ridge on a road trip soon, since his lung disease robbed him of the chance, it's up to me to try and find some beauties to bring home. Grief is a bastard of a thing, but I loved your humour. I loved all the opals and being able to laugh for a change was something I needed, so thank you!

Heard my name and went back to study the little chunks a few dozen times... Another Mintabie battle. Hope I've recovered from the last one. Good to see the pink opal arrowheads well... I think I'll give it a shot with some of mine. I just practice wire wrapping with them these days. Grandfather name... Roy. Its a pretty good grandpa name... what about Opa? I had three sets of grandparents growing up, and they all went by different names. Grandpa, Papa (first name), and Grandpa Texas. Grandpa has passed now, but the other two are in good health. I think you should pick a cool name, but be prepared to get nicknamed if grandson can't pronounce it. I think Opa is sweet, but if you want to keep family and business separate, maybe go with something else (if it's a family business, feel free to ignore that!). I like Babba, and Papa (name) and so many other suggestions!

We called my grandfather Papa. He loved your videos before he passed away a year ago, so I'm sure he would be okay with you using it too! If you want something that might irritate your wife too, you could switch it up and use Peepaw instead! That one always makes me laugh. lol

Llongyfarchiadau (congratulations in welsh)! In Wales, grandpa is dadcu (pronounced dad-key) but is often shortened to gu - pronounced like gee (but with a hard G). Hope that gives you some inspiration from across the pond! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

We just got a new kitten and the grand daughter named her Rosey. She calls my husband Papa. I'm fond of it. He refers to himself as Papaw but she's never pronounced it that way. Sometimes they choose your grandfather name for you ^_^
