Barbourofelis is an extinct genus of large, predatory, feliform carnivoran mammals of the family Barbourofelidae (false saber-tooth cats). The genus was endemic to North America during the Miocene, living from 13.6-5.3 Ma and existing for approximately 8.3 million years.

They've been moved out of Nimravidae into their own family closer to Felidae than to Nimravidae. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbourofelidae under *Taxonomy* heading. "Barbourofelidae was previously classified as a subfamily of the extinct Nimravidae, but is now thought to be taxonomically closer to the Felidae than to the Nimravidae, and has subsequently been reranked as a distinct family by Morlo et al, (2004)." Other references in Wikipedia appear under *Saber-Toothed Cat* and *Carnivora*.

considering that they have vary large teeth and grate strength and decent speed and a fearless heart , they definitely ate prey two to times lager then they were(slower), and they hunted in packs on very large animals that any other carnivore wouldn't dare to test, they were at the top of the food chain for millions of years for sure, these guys could adapt to any situation , these guys was the it factor they had intelligence to raned the jungle like in organization they were that powerful , but something happened to them that can't be explained that led to there exction

Wrong. There were some small sabertoothed creodonts that preceded it in time. Furthermore, over two hundred million years earlier some mammal-like therapsid reptiles known as gorgonopsians had saber teeth. Check out the old science-fiction show Primeval, in the first episode of the first season for a fairly good depiction of one.

@darrenpellichino2923
@darrenpellichino2923 7 лет назад
It seems that the science of brain size is really misleading, or downright wrong. You are right to question the facts when they try to tell you an animal was not intelligent. The crocodillians are very smart animals. Alligators in the US and crocodiles in Asia have been seen using tools to hunt plus they nurture their young. On one occasion a croc that was healed back to health by a Philippine man remained with that man and would swim and play even after the croc was over 12 feet long. Animals are all very smart things, most suck at physics but then again most of us do as well.

@Fergutor
@Fergutor 5 лет назад
Laughing Man When you correct, you should give the correct answer, a fact, not a wrong one with a wrong term. Barbourofeldae is a family inside the feliformia suborder. In the video says Nimravidae but now is considered not to be the case. Tigers are inside the panthera genus of the felidae family, inside the feliformia suborder. "Saber tooth tiger" is the way people referred to Smilodons, wich are animals from the subfamily machairodontinae, inside the family felidae (obviously inside feliformia suborder). So they are not related to tigers, beyond being both cats, and were not similar to them in their adaptations and/or ecological niches.
@dondragmer2412
@dondragmer2412 4 года назад
@@syedzafran2682 Not really. It can be used as a layman's term, just as the jaguar is called el tigre in Spanish. Or thylacines were formerly called marsupial wolves. You may say that too is outdated but I see no problem in calling them that except it may cause some people to think they are a type of wolf.
@dondragmer2412
@dondragmer2412 4 года назад
