When Barca is under pressure Laportas logical response is to shift the blame on Real Madrid. By doing so he also shifts the narrative and by default he removes the pressure on Barca. Instead of taking time to defend his club with well thought out arguments and prove that they are innocent, he makes a press conference on national tv slandering Real. Why? Because they don’t have a valid argument as to why they are innocent. So they just divert the medias attention on to Real Madrid. Despicable

even as a barca fan (although not a catalan one tbf) i’ve never hated real madrid like that, they’re our fiercest rivals but i respect what they’ve achieved, however manipulating history during that era of spain where everybody was forced to comply or else there would be consequences is despicable. with their response, they proved to be scummy. threw barca under the bus for unproven claims and then acted like barca was franco’s favorite club as if he didn’t commit all the atrocities he did in catalonia. now they’re gonna say every team in germany was hitler’s team because they were practically all forced to do the salute as well.

No team in Spain want to be tarred with the association of Franco's regime, but the hard truth is that it's extremely difficult to avoid any level of collaboration over a near 40 year period, without putting your necks quite literally on the line. This is getting out of hand I live in Barcelona and I'm a Real fan, and in my neighborhood there have been two guy's who have gotten stabbed for wearing Real Madrid shirts.

I'm no fan of what Barca's been doing the last couple years, but that video from Real Madrid is absolutely disgusting and is insulting towards every Catalan that has suffered under Franco.

Franco tried to ban both the basque and Catalan languages but with the sheer mass of people in football stadiums and fans, you can’t stop them all, so football became one of the only places they could truly show their regional cultural identities. Cruyff notably said he would never play for Real Madrid given that it was a club supported by Franco. Real Madrid really went too far with this one, in a way it almost tries to deny their own history which should be regretted and acknowledged with openness and transparency rather than diversions of “look over there!”

Regarding the picture in the Real Madrid video of Barca doing the "you know what" sign, the opposition of that match was Basque club Athletic Bilbao also was doing the sign. Is Real trying to imply that both Bilbao and Barca, the representatives/faces of Catalonia and Basque were both fine with what Franco was doing? Also Franco being honorary member of Barca, ever since Laporta became club president in 2003 tried to remove the honours and and fortunately Bartomeu managed to remove it in 2019 (rare Barto W). Barca won 8 league titles and like 9 cups (CDR basically) during the Franco era? What about rest? I wonder who won the rest of them? Spaniard here, I'd like to clarify a few things in this video. Firstly, the flag used at 7:26 is NOT the catalan flag. This is the Estelada, as seen by the white star on the left hand side. This is the independence movement flag, some Spaniards even see it as a terrorist flag. The real flag is called the Senyera and is plain yellow and red stripes across the entire flag. 7:43 Catalans were not bombed during the 30s and 40s. The city of Barcelona did endure bombing during the civil war which was from 1936-1939 (idk why you said 40s there), but this happened all around the country. These bombings weren't aimed at Basque or Catalan people, they were aimed at the cities themselves and the valuable military factories and outposts they contained. 8:00 "White terror" is a myth created by independentist Catalans. Let me elaborate. Franco wanted to eliminate any divisions in the Spanish population, and so made Spanish the official language of Spain. All of Spain. This meant that Catalonia, the Basque country, and Galicia had Spanish as their first official language, and their own regional language as co-official inside of the autonomy. THIS DID NOT MEAN THESE LANGUAGES WERE BANNED. These changes were only on public and administrative levels, meaning that companies, political parties, and in this case also football clubs had to change their name to fit the rest of the country. 8:25 Josep Sunyol was not killed during Franco's reign, but rather during the early days of the civil war. He was arrested by nationalist troops and later killed by them when they found out he was an independentist. Also, the 11-1 score is very debated, but most sources agree that nationalist party members arrived to the match at half time, when Barcelona was already 8-0 down, so the argument sort of breaks down entirely. Franco wasn't even from Madrid, he was from Ferrol, a town in Galicia, a region in Spain which also has its own smaller scale independence movements. Another thing to add is that Barcelona still enjoyed victory under Franco's reign, winning 8 league titles between 1939-1975.

But I gotta say, just releasing a video reply rather than releasing an official statement is 4D chess from Perez. It's an unofficial clapback so it won't be on official records. But also for Laporta to drag Real Madrid through the mud for absolutely no reason was a politician move from him. Real & Barca are the heavy hitter in LaLiga. So this might just be a co-op from both Perez and Laporta to put pressure on Tebas to sway the stringent laws of League towards favour of the heavy hitters.
