The January transfer window was CRAZY.. in the Premier League. But everywhere else it was pretty quiet. Chelsea spent more than the rest of Europe's major 5 leagues COMBINED and it raises the question.. is the Premier League ruining football's finances???

@@adnanassaf350 that's a harsh argument. yes, there are many teams that underperform based on what they spend. and yes, there are teams that overperform relative to their financial power (i should know, I'm a fan of SC Freiburg). still, better players drastically improve your chance to win. just because there are great examples of financial power not dominating by itself, doesn't mean this should just be accepted. As a fan of a championship club and can definitely say yes the prem ruins football for me, the price of players has sky rocketed so much that it's becoming so hard for a team like swansea to buy anyone, apart from the teams recently relegated from prem, no teams have the money to progress anymore, the only way to get anyone decent is either free transfers or loans, other than that it's signing players from the Korean 7th division hoping they turn good after 5 seasons. And this all stems from the prem teams spending habits, other clubs around Europe will overcharge us for a 3rd choice left back because they know how much English league teams spend on players, the owners of championship clubs are not doing anything to help us with this issue because they are more then happy to do just enough to keep making money off us all buy overcharging big clubs for our best young players, money which we never see again, Swansea sold flyn downes to West ham for 10 Mill and then didn't have the money to buy anyone for over 500k. Unless you have been in the prem in the last 3 years it becomes so hard to get there again, teams like Watford, Fulham, westbrom, Norwich, Bournemouth, all of these teams doing amazing in the championship because they still have that prem money, but they look at swansea as soon as you stay too long you get hard stuck because the ability to progress becomes a next to impossible game which is only getting harder to play. Owners are running clubs into the ground while the big teams spend 45 mill on a back up left back.
@REGD4011411
@REGD4011411 Год назад
Bang on, I support a championship team whose never been to the prem and sadly I don't think will as our owners seem to be happy at selling any assetts to prem or higher champ clubs then signing loans or freebies to stay mid table year on year. Should have stopped it more than a decade ago. Now if you cap spending, any team who just got investment are instantly at a disadvantage compared to the Man U who have already spent so much to strengthen and Chelsea who have basically revamped the squad in 1 window while clubs like Liverpool will struggle with the revamp with the cap in place. If you impose a wage cap, the amount of money paid to cancel contracts is going to bankrupt clubs.

One big difference between football now and then, was that before, all leagues had quotas on foreign players. This meant that even if a league (like Serie A for a time) had the richest owners, they would only be able to sign a limited number of players abroad. We don't need to go back, but measures to encourage local talent and academies should be promoted. There was a time where English clubs won the European Cup 6 times in a row, and only one player (Grobbelaar) wasn't from the British Isles. There should be more regulations to make sure clubs are healthy like Bayern. Thing is, if Premier League clubs keep overspending and risking to go into debt, they might face a Barça-style scare if something that threatens the league's finances happens.

The unnoticeable outcomes of PL spending too much cash 1. Its effect on the National Team. No club will will want to have a youth academy and raise homegrown players when they can spend and get someone maybe better from like the Bundesliga or Ligue 1. 2. Players loyalty towards their club. Players will become more greedy for money and this means they might join rivals for better packages . The derbys will feel like friendlys then.

people severly underestimate or downplay how important the aspect of language is for the Prem's global appeal. Now instead of Prem team fans having an inferiority complex competition about who has the richer owners, how about enforcing harsh rules and not having owners at all, but having the clubs be owned by their members. Get sponsors all you like but don't fuck with the books. Only spend as much as you earn. Rich people always tell poor people to be financially responsible, I wonder why they aren't following their own advice… Anyway, under the current mode of production it is basically inevitable that it will never get any better, only worse.

It's really funny how the cut off of the 18/19 season seems deliberately chosen to make city look better. The 17/18 season they had a net spend of -226 million euro and the 16/17 season they had a net spend of -180 million euro. Meanwhile clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool and West ham sold for more than they spent during the 17/18 season. Since the 18/19 season, city has only had one year with over 100 million more spent than sold. Before the 18/19 season, 4 out of the last five seasons, they spent more than 100 million net. It really seems chosen to make city look better.

All this money and none of the four PL teams won their Champions League 1st tie. It’s just money being tossed around and it’s getting out of hand

What can you actually do though? If the Premier League is more profitable and pays more. Players prefer to come for only okay teams then stay aboard for more historic and important ones. Unless you want some sort of football communism, I struggle to see what you can do.

@diogoalves9284 This isn't a good thing for football. but the point is that the Premier League absolutely killed it with their TV rights and Money Distribution It made the PL as rich as it is now(plus billionaire ownership) but it was the Revenue Share + Broadcasting that attracted them to the PL instead of say the Serie A(which was the biggest league in the world at one point)

There’s more than 220 brilliant players in Europe/the world so the PL can go hard and try to buy every superstar but the fact that they don’t dominate UEFA comps shows that earning more money doesn’t make you a better player. Other leagues will adapt and when their best players get bought they will uncover new talent who beat the PL millionaire players.

Thing to note on the flipside of this is most of that money goes to overseas clubs, the Portuguese league alone has taken in like £1billion from the premier league in the last 5/6 years so the money does circle round

If it was not for that serious knee injury, Niran would basically be the best player in the world right now, and he would have refused to get paid ridiculous wages, and if the world's best player by far ain't getting 500-600k a week and even refusing it, no one else would.

BUT ... La Liga usually spend much more than they have in recent years, they used to be the big spenders from 2000-2018 ish .. probably close to proportion to what the EPL is doing now... Seirie A used to be the big spenders in the 80s and 90s... It's all cyclical, (apart from Chelsea, who have been bonkers)

I agree and I don't. La liga and Seria A are are pushing this because they are having financial struggles. Also a lot of this comes down to the PL being smarter over the years. The PL has made it self more marketable, has a bigger outreach around the world and it helps the main language is english. A big reason for the money in the PL is the TV-rights and La liga have refused to do the same thing. La liga ans Seria A can't just get angry because the PL has been smarter they had their eras. However I think the PL needs to do a better job at making sure money is distributed down the football pyramid and that clubs are following the rules and actually enforcing them.
