Daniel Barenboim came back to the Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, in August, 19th 2000, to celebrate his 50 years on stage with a solo-recital as in his first appearance as a 7-years-old boy

Isaac Albéniz - Iberia 1st & 2nd book
0:27 1st Book
19:50 2nd Book
Argentina has not forgotten him, this son of the city, leading conductor and pianist, and indefatigable campaigner for international understanding through the spirit of music. On the night of 19 August 2000, they came en masse, like pilgrims, to the time-honoured Teatro Colón just to listen to him.
At last their adored idol steps on to the stage - to perform again in his native city half a century after his first public appearance. The multitude rises and sings for him. Three hours and thirteen encores later, he can find no other way of disengaging himself from the ecstatic throng than to point out that the Teatro Colón must close its doors at midnight. One last piece, and then he goes - ending what has surely been one of the most memorable evenings in the Argentinian capital's concert history.

Everything is amazing, but the Seville segment is among the best I have heard of - everything. Virtuosity, profundity, generosity... Unsurpassed. And to do this at the Teatro Colón, in front of the loving audience at the peak of your art...

Interesting to see so many judgemental idiots who know nothing about performing and recording techniques. Look at where the mics were placed and look at the venue - if he didn't play the way he did, the people sitting in the back row would hear nothing. If the mics were placed further back, the sound wouldn't be so bangy and the acoustics of the hall would be captured better.

Sorry, Barenboim didn't respect or play any music after Beethoven when he was young. He did not practice difficult music. His fingers are too weak. When he plays Liszt it is like someone from the provinces! He needs to stop this nonsense and return to conduct where he can wave his baton. He insults Albéniz who requires the pinnacle of virtuosity. This playing is full of errors, the octaves are absolutely, well you can hear for yourself, and when he gets desperate, he reaches for his pedal. No dynamics, no rhythm. Someone like Lugansky would rip him to shreds, Shameful playing. Why does he think he can get away with this?

@@ahahahah9629 'No dynamics'? 'No Rhythm'? Who have you been listening to? Why don't you retract this shameful collection of irrelevancies. When did Lugansky record this Spanish suite? I don't see it. Give me musicality any time over virtuosity, not that Barenboim doesn't have that up his sleeve too when appropriate.

@wzvarick 25 дней назад
@@tomsrensen9382 technically it’s a mess. He’s truly struggling with many passages. I know how hard this repertoire is, I’m conservatory trained and I’ve leaned these pieces. But in my very first lesson with Leon fleisher my lesson partner sat down and absolutely nailed Triana. She was 17! I’m not saying she was the absolute pinnacle of artistry, but my point is many pianists can play this stuff extremely well. Barenboim at least in this performance can’t.

@@wzvarick Interesting. I'm not familiar with the repertoire, but I would expect a guy at his level to be fully aware of his limitations. Just from listening, it seemed to me his voicing was rather crude, but again, I'm not familiar with Albéniz.

No transmite nada. Muchas gracias.
