Lol. Ppl still talk about boxing. this yr. boxing has been epic. Pacquiao's bk, mayweather/canelo, broner lost, garcia solidified himself, bhop, ggg, on and on. Boxing will live on forever and will continue to generate more cashflow. believe that.
Only in Brazil is MMA more popular than boxing. In the USA I think it's competing with it, but still not making as much money as boxing; at least that's what I've heard. In the rest of the world, (Latin America, Europe, Asia) boxing is still way more popular, even though MMA, is becoming better known.
well thats not surprising, boxing has been around for what, like 100 years? MMA doesnt necessarily have to be more popular than boxing to be relevant, and it certainly isnt going anywhere
THIS IS THE BEST FORMAT FOR SPORTS COMMENTARY IMO. NO BULLSHIT STAGE, NO GUYS IN SUITS READING OFF TELEPROMPTERS (AT LEAST IT DOESNT LOOK LIKE IT) AND SOMEONE WHOS INVOLVED IN THE TOPIC AT HAND. GREAT STUFF!!!
honestly i thought just weight lifting and packing on muscle you gonna be invincible, until i started fighting MMA, and realized that muscle dont mean shit in fighting...
Strength is SO weird. I've seen big dudes that are strong, but only in certain positions. I've also seen smaller, yet very defined muscularly, guys be VERY strong in any position. It seems like it depends on how you're working out, not THAT you're working out. The crazy workouts that MMA guys go through is proof of that I think.
1974spr true...bodybuilding style weightlifting is shit...just for look and bitches...i dont do it anymore...ive boxed with 220lbs guy did bjj with a guy twice my weight,,,i lost all the stupid uunnecessary muscles, now weigh about 165m i fight 155lbs...fell much better, stronger and faster...
A true fight fan can enjoy a great mma fight and then turn the channel and watch a great boxing fight and be totally satisfied by both. Old school MMA was pretty sloppy, but in the last 5-8 years or so the level of skill and competition has reached a point that you can really enjoy it. And boxing has had a recent infusion of great new stars that has seen the sport reemerge like a phoenix..plenty of great fights to see in BOTH SPORTS for the next decade.
the double standard is Boxing right now especially an event as a Mayweather fight generates much more revenue for the city of Las Vegas than said a UFC event would.
I love how on this day (4/20/2015) I'm watching this and they ask the question on Mayweather vs Pacquiao and its really going to happen. Its surprising that just 3 years ago people were talking about this fight and how its wouldn't happen, but it should and now its going to happen! Unbelievable
thank you very much!:)... they sit there talking al that..but since he has gotten this much bigger how much did he win? how more experienced, better and popular and everything has he gotten since that fight vs chuck?.. like they leave out some much important details lol. ppl for real.
Agreed. With proper training of course their chances would drastically improve. I was talking about going straight from on sport to the other without adjusting training. Some people think that a boxers standup is so good they don't need other skills to succeed in MMA, which is wrong.
It took me a while to recognize Ed O'Neill, man his voice is different. And yeah I know it said his name, but I must have zoned out when that happened. That face though I was thinking 'That kinda looks like Ed O'Neill' and lo and behold it WAS him. That beard really takes years off of his face.
O'Neil impressed me with his fight knowledge. I didn't know how much of a fan he is. He knows more than me and practically all other hardcore fans. This is...I didn't know people used to talk about boxing like this. I very seldom hear talk about boxing. It's all UFC.
comparing MMA to boxing is like comparing a triathlon to running. In running or boxing you have to focus on being good at just one thing, but in MMA or a triathlon you gotta be well rounded, if not you'r weakness will get you in trouble
How blinking cool is it to see Ed O'Neill sitting down eating dinner and talking about MMA with Dana White. I always loved Ed, but now I may be in love with the dude. LoL
Totally. If you see the ppv events (at least the info of wikipedia), the mma nights sales between 700,000 and 1,600,000 ppv. Its a lot of money, i dont know what kind of contracts sign the mma fighters!
I agree the top jiu jitsu guys are awesome. My favourite is Jacare Souza he has amazing grappling but he isn't a 'Mixed Martial Artist' he can't strike. I'm not saying Boxing is harder than Wrestling or Jiu Jitsu or Judo but all of them are in fact harder than MMA. Ronda Rousey said in a Q&A in Vegas than Judo is a lot harder than MMA and Daniel Cormier said the same about Wrestling in Inside MMA.
Ed O Neil is one of the coolest guys ever. hes a big time jiu jitsi guy and a big time fight fan even at his age where you see a lot of guys shit on MMA he respects, analyzes and loves the sport. Just awesome to seees
Ufc is mma boxing is boxing and why would you put mayweather in a mma fight put a mma fighter vs mayweather in a boxing ring dana he hasnt challegend any one on the ufc
I wouldn't say he would have no chance, but his chances would not be good. An MMA fighter would stay out of range and likely use a lot of leg kicks and go for take downs, which is something a pure boxer has no training for nor do they really have training for ground fighting. I think it is pretty clear that if either were to venture into the other's sport they would likely lose.
Can we just all agree that top ranked boxers get paid more than top ranked ufc fighters, but lower ranked UFC fighters are paid more than lower ranked boxers
I now know that Ed O'Neill is a martial artist but it's still slightly weird hearing Al Bundy talk about the UFC. haha. Seems like a real nice guy btw.
+MrAxeman293 Yea, time didn't affect Overeem? I call him Alisteroid Testostereem. I am not a big fan of his by any means but he is the better fighter. JDS bullied around guys who had bad striking. He never fought any high level striker like Overeem before their fight.
Pay attention. A PPV boxing card will generally have the main fight paying out milions even tens of millions and the undercard fighters generally make a small percent in comparison. MMA and Boxing may be similar in pay on the undercards but not similar in the main fight. What's the most Anderson Silva's made, UFC's biggest fighter? Compare most boxers that are not considered p4p best and those boxers still probably make more. I bet fighters like Canelo, Sergio Martinez, Khan all make more.
The Black Belts today are by far better than anyone back in the day. The difference is everyone trains BJJ now and they didn't back then. So those who didn't got toasted in 30 seconds. Now you need to physical ability and other skills to apply your Black Belt effectively. If you look at the subs Royce didn't see, and how slow he applies the ones he did. He was about the level of purple belts in MMA today. The Diaz' and Hazelette, Lauzon's, and any bottom guy today was better as purple belts.
I've seen some of the payouts on UFC cards. Some of the biggest names are barely making 6 figures on a main event fight and at the bottom there might be a fighter making only 2 grand and that is for the biggest MMA promotion. 2 grand! Imagine if they got hurt. They would be in debt.
No I don't go around pointing flaws in everyone's grammar. But if you throw around the words "uneducated" and "ignorant" you better proof read your work.
You don't have to quit but then the obvious could happen. If someone grabs onto an arm or leg & you don't tap it will get broken. I don't see MMA as any less a sport than boxing. Boxer's only go for 11 extra minutes longer but they also get 3x as many break periods.
The bigger you are the more punishment you can or should take.....you can also take a better punch the better shape you are in.....that being said not sure what overeems prob is?lol
Not to mention that he and Floyd do go way back, like he said. There's another video on youtube where Floyd talks about when he met Dana a long time ago when he was a "square" and he wore some apparel that Dana was promoting when no one else wanted to.
