Barfoed's Test for Monosaccharides 

Barfoed's Reagent + Boil
Red Precipitate = Monosaccharide
Add Phosphomolybdic Colour Reagent
Dark Blue = Monosaccharide
Light Blue = Disaccharide
Negative Control = Water
Positive Control = Glucose
Positive Control = Maltose
Note: Boiling too long can cause the Disaccharide to hydrolyze into Monosaccharides. This is why the Disaccharides appear light blue.
