Hi Nice wee set! Way back in the 70's I bought everything trangia times 2 as my cook set... back in the 70 's it was new & pre trangias gas mod the thick ally version.. wish I haden't, but later I converted my pre gas moddles to take gas it was heavy & cheep in comparison to todays trangia kit I bought every accessorie available too I still have & use regularly... back in the 70's i built a custom wooden storage car camping kitchen type chuck box, for 2 (me & the wife) then as kids happened it was expanded over the years to cater for a family of 5 it's seen many family camping trips, as kids were growing, I also bought up old heavy ally kits for each of my 3 kids from various ebay auctions... i have regularly cleaned/polished my old heavy metal ally kit with autosol now it could easily pass for brand new... it shines like crome I love my trangia stuff it feels quality & back then was built to last... not sure i could say the same about modern lighter trangia kit? i much prefer meths (now I use bio ethanol) to gas any day... looks like a nice wee kit though... that pot grabber with your kit, is made by trangia it's not even just a close knock off look alike it's an actual trangia pot grabber...
Cool I would like to get one of the older sets like you describe such as the meta 50 the Swedish army used Thanks for watching and leaving such a detailed comment really appreciate it 👍 All the best Roo
Looks a good set. I've got the large trangia set and I paid the extra for the non stick coating. In my personal opinion it was money well spent, I've used the pots and frying pan and kettle with the meths burner, the gas burner and also on open fires. They have stood up to the challenge extremely well for the past 3 years. I never used the metal pot handle with it though, I purchased a small plastic one and a plastic fork and spoon to cook and eat with so I don't damage the coating. Keep the videos coming, they brighten up my day. All the best, Jimmy
Evening Jimmy hope you're well buddy, yeah you don't want metal near non stick coating! I like the look of the trangia sets but they're quite pricey like the bushbox XL so I just keep mentioning them to the wife and how good they must be when my birthday rolls around 😉 But no joy so far... I was watching this one on Amazon for a year before buying it myself because I thought £25 was steep Take care mate Roo
Jimmy, sounds like we have the exact same Trangia cookset. I love it! And one of the first things that I did was buy a plastic pot grabber to use on the non-stick lid!
Bought my set on Ebay for £30. From miltec itself same as yours. Yes I looked at the triangia 25, yes they are more expensive. Yes this set was cheaper, and new. The Trianga 25 are second hand and dearer with more dents in. I bought the miltec version because it was cheaper, newer, and looked nice. Also thinking it would do the same job as the trianga 25 and it was light to carry on a camp out/ or bug out. 👍🏻 🙂 🍳 That's why I bought it.
It's a nice little set I think I got mine for same reasons, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment hope you have a great weekend 👍 All the best Roo
Hi Jimmy, I like the look of the trangia and they seem really verstile but I can't justify the price to buy one Even though I suspect the build quality in the trangia will be superior it's not worth paying almost double the money Thanks for watching and taking the time to post a comment mate Take care Roo
this set isn't modeled after the swiss meta 50 or the trangias, this is actually a clone of the old optimus 77 alcohol cookset that was only made for a few years in the late 1960's. it's inexpensive compared to a trangia because this one is made in china and the trangia is made in sweden. i have one, the quality isn't bad at all but you really do need to add a trangia simmer ring to it to keep from burning anything you're trying to cook....
Hi Grizzly thanks for taking the time to watch and comment buddy really appreciate it! The measurements on the box are imperial so it must be marketed towards you guys in America, it's a big set that only weighs 1.2 lb Take care Roo
I was watching this on Amazon for a year before I bought it £25 is a lot for a cook set but I had to treat myself as it's so much cheaper than the big brand version... Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment brother really appreciate it 👍 Take care Roo
You could add a simmer ring to the kit to greatly increase its practicality as a cooking device. I tend to replace the entire burner because then the ring snaps onto the cap. I also upgrade the strap to an actual arno strap. Most of mine came with the older style pleather strap with a bendy buckle. This nylon one they come with now is better, but the 24” arno strap is much better quality.
It's quite a good set, not as good as the trangia 25 but as it's so much cheaper I think it's a bargain, thanks for watching and commenting brother much appreciated! 👍 Take care Roo
Bought mine few days ago..it looks quite cheap but does the job as expected..not bad, but also not very comfortable..for camping i would use a more expensive and sophisticated set..i will only use it for emergency at home in case of a power outage..
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment really appreciate it I agree the alcohol stove is fairly cheap looking and feels very light compared to most I have bought The pans are fine though I think and it's a great set for an emergency backup 👍 All the best Roo
OMG. When did this appear on the market?? It is 300 g lighter than the lightest Trangia set which I proudly possess and which will be for sale since tomorrow. I already ordered this because of you. Thank you!
Thanks for watching Collwyn its the most expensive cookset I've got and as much as I like the look of the trangia version I can't justify paying their price Hope you and the family are well Take care mate Roo
I’ve noticed an advantage to the Trangia way though. The hourglass shape of most of these older stormcookers doesn’t allow enough air for a gas burner. I found the gas burner could only run at about 1/4 power before it snuffed itself out. Works fine on a Trangia though. The only thing I can think of is the larger void area on the Trangia.
It's surprisingly light considering how much stuff is packed into it Thanks for watching and the kind feedback buddy very much appreciated! 👍 Take care Roo
Thank you buddy, I got this a while back but they're still available cheaply online and it's really versatile, would love to track down an original meta 50 though... Take care Roo
My dad's not very well at the moment so don't have time to get out as we're trying to spend as much family time together as possible so can only do quick little videos like this at the moment mainly from old recordings, sorry mate Take care Roo
Not another cup of noodles that's for sure, time to step my game up next time I'm out but will probably involve #SPAM 😉 Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment buddy! 👍 Take care Roo
Hi. Does the big pot fit on top of the little pot, and the lid on top of the big pot, so that I can put coals inside the 2 pots to heat a tent in a winter night?
The big pot nests inside the smaller one, you could put the lid on the floor which the pot stand will sit on nicely, then you can use the pots with one upside down to fit inside or over the other depending on which you place at the bottom. I'll put a couple of photos on my community page now to illustrate for you All the best Roo
@@PreparedCamping Thank you for your reply and for the photos. I understand in this setup you can use the alcohol stove for heating, or you could fill with coals the last pot, on top, covered with the other one reversed. But, I would like to know, if you can put the big bot, normal not reversed, on the little pot, that means the bottom of the big one stays on that interior rim of the small one, same, if the lid can stay on the rim of the large pot. Like this I can fill with coals, both pots, the lid on top acting also as a radiant and cover for the coals. I’m not worried for the little pot, becoming hot directly on the soil, because I intent to use it inside a tarp shelter, not a tent, so nothing to burn on the bottom. I want to know if this setup with coals works, in case of lack of alcohol for the stove (wood is always available in the woods). That’s why I’m interested in this aluminium kit, otherwise I would prefer stainless steel for cooking.
@@danmano478 if stacking the pots like this the enclosed space between the bottom of the pots is only about 2cm or an inch, the frying pan lid is wider than both so will completely cover either pot On a side note stainless steel is always preferable 👍
@@PreparedCamping Yes, but aluminium is more heat radiant. Maybe I will find an aluminium kit that works in this setup with more space remaining in the pots and the lid fit on top. If not I’l buy this one. As for cooking, for approximately 1 kg (with this kit included) I could add the MSR or Firemaple aluminium ceramic coated pan approx. 250gr. and a 1l pot ~ 300gr. Like this the cooking is not in aluminium, and I have also a stove, that can be used, like an additional pot for melting snow for water. Thanks again for review and answers. All the best.
I really like these alcohol stove systems. It's a shame that they aren't very popular here in the U.S. I can tell that I watch a fair number of British videos where folks use them as I've pretty much started calling the fuel "meths". I don't think that anyone says that around here! The only "meth" we know here is methamphetamine......
It's quirky how language works, look at how you guys pronounce "aluminium" 😉 Thanks for watching and taking time to post a comment, I really enjoy your alone videos in the elk range 👍 Take care buddy Roo
@@PreparedCamping It's funny that you mention aluminum. I actually almost said something about that in the comment! Yeah, I sometimes use the British pronunciation of that word ;) I'm glad that you like the Alone in the Elk Range videos. It sure was a neat experience. Now I wouldn't mind going back out somewhere and doing that sort of thing again. -Gareth
@@PreparedCamping The wash in the lake took care of most of the issue, but a wash at home with some laundry detergent made a complete job of it. I just wish that I had noticed the problem while I was still at home. But it's not like I thought I had any reason to worry! I wonder if Jones took a leak on it because he knew that I was packing up to go on a trip, and that I'd be leaving him for a while? My wife told me that he decided to pee on one of my hooded sweatshirts that i wear a lot while I was out on the trip........apparently to get me back for leaving him! Since I been back home, there haven't been any issues. But now I worry every time that I throw together some kit for a quick overnighter that Jones will decide to do the whole thing over again!
