West Coast Bushcrafters
Bark River Aurora II and Canadian Special
Bark River Aurora II and Canadian Special. 2 beautiful and at the same time a bit strange knives in our collection. Especially the shape of the Canadian Special is not so common. But don’t let looks fool you... We had a great time reviewing both knives. Hope you have a great time watching.

If you like the blade shape of the Canadian Special, but aren't crazy about the handle, you should try the UP Gunny or UP Bravo. They both have the same blade shape as the Canadian Special, but have the handle of the Gunny and Bravo, respectively.

I like your channel and have watched and will watch your videos, but you HAVE TO come up with at least a 2nd piece of music to use :) Also, your audio cuts out of the left speaker at times. Otherwise, good job and keep the good content coming!
@westcoastbushcrafters

Haha we will work on that. Music was recorded in a professional studio. Hope we can make some more music there in the future. Will ask the producers:). Regarding the audio cuts on the left... I will have to google abit how to solve that problem. Thanks for your comment! Take care!

What is your favorite bushcraft knife so far? You guys should make a video of it Rating all of your knives tested so far.

Good question! We talked about it last weekend. And we both agreed that one specific brand is our favourite. Great idea for a new episode. Some exciting knives will come up before we are going to make an episode on our favourite knife. Could be a nice video to film during fall :).

If you like the Canadian Special, you should give the D.H. Russell Canadian Belt Knife as made by Grohmann a try. It's the knife that the Canadian Special was based on and is one of the most iconic North American outdoor knives. I'd put the Kephart and Nessmuk in the same category as knives designed specifically for outdoor recreation as opposed to general purpose knives that were used for outdoor activities.

Why do you have an intro with music, say welcome to video then another intro with same music seconds after the first.. Edit: lol I'm 1 minute in and you've played the same song 3 separate times, really wearing it out don't ya think?

Hi! Yeah agreed. Looking at the first minute it feels like a bit of an overkill. I deleted the first compilation. Feels a bit more balanced now. We taking your feedback with us for future videos, thanks for that! What do you think about the last episode?

If you guys like the Canadian Special, take a look at the LT Wright Northern Hunters. Its closer to the original Canadian Belt Knife design and a great all a rounder.

I have a Bark River Sandstorm with CPM-154 steel that is not really a bushcraft design, but in many ways is the perfect hiking/camping/canoeing/skiing/snowshoeing knife. It is a compact 5" knife with great ergonomics, and so far has been completely resistant to rot. It is very sharp, and has held a fine edge despite all sorts of tasks and some fairly heavy use. I have never had to do anything other than run a ceramic rod over it from time to time. If I am going to do actual fieldcraft type tasks, I use my Lars Fält knife. I am very appreciative that Casström starting using Sleipner steel for that knife - I think that it is a good alternative to the Bark River bushcraft knives, if you like Scandinavian knives. The curly birch is terrific, and the edge profile really bites into wood.
@westcoastbushcrafters

Sandstrorm is a cool looking knife! Good to hear it does all the tasks well! Lars Fält knife is a good choice for fieldcraft tasks. I really like that one :)

@@hakkamasaamine9950 If we may ask, what are you thinkin of using the BR aurora II most for? Curious what you think about the knife. I really like the shape and it is a very good slicer and easy to sharpen super sharp but not so good for feathersticking. It is a very cool knife, dont get me wrong. cheers!

@@westcoastbushcrafters Mainly I want this knife to make others jealous😉. I am interested in which knife is better, Fällkniven S1x or Aurora. Which suits me better for classic bushcrft activities.
@westcoastbushcrafters
@westcoastbushcrafters Год назад
@@hakkamasaamine9950 haha yeah that will work with an aurora II :P Difficult one! very different knives. some thoughts: Fällkniven S1X: More robust knife, better in batoning wood. If it is kept sharp you will get nice curls during feathersticking. I think the grip not feeling nice to the hands without having gloves on. Pro version feels better. Overall extremely robust knife. More modern look. almost no maintenance needed. Aurora II: Great looking knife. More old school look. Quite long blade. Need to be a little bit more careful during batoning. Batoning straight wood is no problem. Very easy to sharpen extreme sharp. Need to oil it in blade. Most likely not so easy to baton with or featherstick with compared to S1x. (you will get long straight curls) Great slicer. Great for food prepping outdoors. good handle. hope this helps a bit :)

I have the Aurora and wanted the Aurora II...but after watching your video, I will pass. I want a great outdoors knife and this isn't it. I love the feel of the Aurora handle and the profile of the blade. But wish they made the Aurora II at least 5mm thick to make it a better batoning knife. Thanks so much guys for preventing from making a big mistake with my purchase. I will look at the Bravo 1.5 instead.
