You will be very unhappy with its original Scandi-convex grind. But it is a very good base knife to make your own geometry on, real Scandi or high convex. Its handle and its 3V steel are very nice.
I also have a BRKT Bushcrafter in 3V. I tweaked its profile as well, only slightly on my belt sharpener, then stopped it up. The sound it makes carving feather sticks or even general whittling reminds me of a razor sharp wood plane back in woodworking class! Amazing. I must say though that a fine edge will always slice better but not be as strong. With 3V be careful not to make it too fine, that's all. Cheers
Finally I did that to my Bushcrafter. But as I don't have a belt grinder, it took me long hours on the 400 stone. Crazy! But it's much better now!!! Now, I like this thing.

Great video and very informative about the differences in handle choices. Liners are thin, but they obviously make a huge difference when it comes to the feeling in the hand. I want one of these scandi's but they would need the Wako treatment to be to my liking lol
A Scandi-vex IS the original "Scandi" grind. Long before knives were ground with machines, this is the edge that every so-called "Scandi" knife had. And it is far better and more durable, imo, once you get used to it and learn its advantages.
Hello, very nice knives. I think the reverse grip you talk about in this vid is best used for the chest lever technique. I think it is a great bushcraft knife technique and I think it would be a good way of making the tips of your fish roasting sticks. There are some vids on YT that show it. Thanks again for the vids.
to add to what wakosan said, i own gimped and straight, and i find the straight to be more comfortable for most tasks. he ramp tends to tell you where to put your thumb, whereas the straight spine lets your thumb go wherever works. unless you cut alot in the sabre grip, i would reccommend the straight spine as well.
Once I made nice geometry to my 3V knives, they don't take any edge problems unless I fall them on the concrete ground. What I need are only Bark River white compound and DLT strop. 3V resists the black compound but accepts the white compound. Thanks.
I have ever experienced Bravo1 Field Knife with the gimping. At that moment they called it traction grooves. Its corners are all sharp and just make pain to our thumb. I guess BRKT doesn't have technology to make comfortable round top gimping. I remember some said the gimping was for striking a ferro rod. It must have been sophystry. We should not get a gimped BR knife IMO. Thanks.
I like the blue paper steel forged and laminated. Its performance is comparable to A2. It is very popular in Japanese Toyokuni knives. So I just have no specific interest in it. I don't like the white paper steel even if it is forged because it is soft. I don't think forging itself is important. I think steel property and heat treat determine the edge performance. Thanks.

I remember I used 150 grit belt. Don't touch the edge line because it easily goes burning red to lose its heat treat. Using a belt sander is only for saving time to reduce the bevel geometry. Thanks.
Does bark river make any knives with a scandi grind already on the knife. I don't like the scandi convex grind they put on a knife. I would rather see a regular scandi. Thanks for your videos , I learn a lot from you my friend. Peace
